Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr is bona fide Southern rock royalty, and he sure knows a thing or two about tone.
A tribute to his much-loved 1956 Les Paul Junior, this new limited-edition guitar from Gibson is sure to be a hit with fans of @blackberrysmoke -and just about any guitarist who appreciates the charms of a stripped-down, single-pickup tone machine.

Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke often uses a Les Paul™ Junior for studio recordings and live performances. Throughout his career, his affinity for the Les Paul Junior has contributed to his signature guitar tone and playing style, adding to the band's unique sound. The Gibson Charlie Starr Les Paul Junior authentically reproduces Charlie's go-to Junior. It features a mahogany neck with a 50s neck profile that was digitally scanned and replicated from Charlie's favorite Les Paul Junior, a custom-designed overwound P-90 pickup, and an adjustable Wraparound bridge with locking studs. It comes packed in a Historic Les Paul Junior "Gator Skin" hardshell case and includes a Charlie Starr Signature Ceramic Slide and Hey Ya'll sticker, complete with Charlie's original misspelling.
Available in Dark Walnut and Ebony, only 250 will be made in each color.

$2k for a satin finish LP Jr seems steep. It does have the upgrades that many players would install (bridge w/ saddles, Grover tuners, custom P90, speed knobs, custom shop case)... so not too bad.
I like satin finish, (especially the neck) but my Junior's nitro burst finish is really pretty. The detail of the wood in person is very nice. First nitro I've owned so I am biased.
Where did u see one for 2 grand? They are going for 3500$

I’ve never been into Juniors but that walnut brings out the beauty of its simplicity and loveliness so perfectly.
I've never seen unmarked aged speed knobs like those before, but I am now in love.
I actually like these unmarked knobs better. It works well because of the simplicity of this guitar.
You deserve a signature model..You are true to yourself and your fanbase. Keep Rockin that junior like no one else.

I built my own Charlie Starr tribute back during lockdown but if y'all get a chance to see the band live, beg, borrow or steal the money to do so! Saw them at the Ryman in 2015 and it's still the best show I've seen there and in the top 10 all time. There is a level of musicianship and camaraderie that absolutely shines through. R.I.P to Britt who beyond being a fantastic drummer was also responsible for thier epic logo and artwork. Long live the Smoke!

Love the walnut version, but I'm confused about finishes. What is "High-Build Premium Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer" (Charlie's sig) vs "Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer" (which is on the modern studios)? Will the finish wear differently?

Historically cash strapped artists picked up the Jr because they couldn’t afford the LP Standard. The world is messed up.

If this one came out a couple of months earlier I probably would have bought the walnut version of this Junior instead of my beautiful Explorer. I do love my Explorer, but I would be much happier if it had P90’s in it. 🤩

The walnut seems to have a dark red wine coloring. Could be the lighting I’m sure. Seems darker than those 70s walnuts or even the Jim james es model

@@travgpeters1 My stock Junior was $400 less and people say that's too much. The point I've learned over the years is: if you want something, buy it. In ten years people will complain how cheap they were "back in 2024".

In one of his Rig Run downs he talks about it being misspelled.
The decal is spelled that way because when Charlie put the original on his guitar, it was just letter decals he got and put the apostrophe in the wrong place. Why? He was drunk. He admitted it. And he doesn't care. None of us Blackberry Smoke fans care. Neither should you. He made a small spelling error while drunk. Could have been worse. Could have dropped his original 56 and smashed it.
