The thing I admire most about Pentatonix is their total respect for the song. They sing every song the way they believe it was meant to be sung, rather than trying to turn the song into a vehicle for their own aggrandizement. If a song doesn't call for some belting solo or sick beat or sassy vocal run, they won't do it, period. I'm sure this is why so many of the original artists love the Pentatonix covers of their songs--it's not just that they have beautiful voices and high-quality productions, it's because they totally respect the song itself and let it shine, rather than making it about them.
pentatonix has gotten me through the pandemic. they have special magic and we need that now, to feel good 3 minutes at a time.
This is one of a number of videos they did during lock-down with each member recording their part at home. Occasionally they do these 5 part harmonies. Fortunately, their beatboxer is good at harmonies also. P.S. They have been awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The placement ceremony is in 2023.

When they go into full five-part harmony its just mind-blowing. I always love these songs. They make a great contrast to their "normal" pop sound. I value the fact that they do a wide variety of music.

They are so versatile that I don't blame them for doing things differently once in a while, and showing us all their skills. In fact, I'm grateful that we get to see the full range of their talents. It's astounding that they did this remotely during lockdown and it's so beautiful vocally, and the video is so beautiful. We have to remember Ben Bram and Ed Boyer who were also working remotely arranging and producing and putting it all together. What a treat. Thanks for your reaction.

Thanks for mentioning the positive vibes. I've followed Pentatonix since the SingOff, but mostly just buying recordings. But when the pandemic started I began watching UA-cam videos and discovered how happy it makes me watching them sing. Something about their story of making it against the odds and how happy they look to be singing.

Pentatonix deliberately does different styles of songs on each album -- a blockbuster, a fun piece, something inspirational, something with lots of percussion and energy, and one of these 5-part harmony, all-about-the-harmonies arrangements. They are mostly homophonic, with everyone singing in chords together for most of the song. The most homophonic, like "My Heart With You" are recorded with everyone in the studio together and they will sing them at concerts without individual mics, gathered in a circle, just singing together.
