Wonderfully produced video. It brought back so many memories for me. I was born in 1960 in Michigan City. My dad's family were immigrants who came to live in Michigan City back in 1900. Our home stood at 303 Washington Street; the exact location of where the US Post Office now stands. It was so cool to see you show the post office. I said to myself: "that is where my childhood home stood!" Right behind the post office was the home of my grandparents and also the home where my dad was born and raised back in 1928. Across the street is the old Jaymar-Ruby factory which you didn't show. Next door to the factory is where the home of my great grandparents stood. You also showed the La Porte County Court House. I teared up. The angle is exactly as I remember seeing it from ground level from the front door of my home. I remember standing in my front yard watching Robert Kennedy give a speech from those exact steps. You were standing literally in my front yard.😀 We would walk over the bridge to the beach. Back in 1965 they had a concession stand that would serve up A&W root bear in cardboard type containers which resembled a "barkers bullhorn". The zoo was amazing. It housed one of the largest monkey/orangutan exhibits. The scenes of the beach and lighthouse is exactly as I remember it. I laughed when you had to traverse the "geese hazards" of Washington Park. My mom wouldn't let us play in the park on our way to the beach for that reason and because she was afraid of geese! LOL. There was an old Pullman Railroad ship yard which stood, I believe on Wabash Street. I would walk by it on my way to Saint Mary's Catholic School. In the mid 1960's it was already closed down. My great grandfather and grand father worked for Pullman railroad in the early 1900's up through the late 1950's. You mentioned St. Anthony's Hospital. Though you didn't show it, I along with my three siblings were born in St. Anthony's. Thank you so much Scottman for this brief but memorable video. Great work!
Thank you very much! I really enjoyed reading your history with the city. It's great to see how the city was back in the day. I'll need to head back there sometime and check out some of the things I missed especially the zoo. Thanks for watching!
I went to Michigan City last weekend and I really enjoyed it, drove to Washington Park, its $20.00 admission, but it was worth it. Love coming back to this video.
Great video! I live about 20 minutes away from Michigan City in the city of La Porte! Next time if you are in the area, you should do an exploring video of La Porte.
Thank you very much! Michigan City is quite a neat city to check out. Washington Park and the Lake Michigan coastline is a must visit! Thanks for watching!
I lived in Gary in the 60s and Hobart. Until the mid 70s. My parents use to take me to the zoo there. Is the zoo still there ? I live in Pennsylvania since 1976. Haven't been back to Indiana since 2002. Great video.
Nice! Although I didn't visit it, the zoo at Washington Park is still there even to this day. Hopefully you'll get a chance to head back there soon! Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much! Michigan City is quite beautiful especially along the lakeshore. The tripod has been working very well so far! Thanks for watching!
This video helped me realize how simple it is to get to the beach from downtown Michigan City. We drove from Indianapolis in late March 2020. So knowing how easily accessible the beach was relieved some anxiety I was having. I loved this beach and it really made my birthday weekend because we couldn't do much else due to social distancing. This was the first real beach that I've been to. So i appreciate this video.😁♥️🏖️
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Michigan City has a great beach, and I like how close it is from downtown. I'm glad it was able to help relieve some anxiety! Thanks for watching!
Scott that was an excellent video. I was born in Michigan City, now live in Houston Texas. Back in July about a month ago I came to visit Michigan City and it is really a very awesome place. Thank you for the history of the different buildings never knew anything about this until I saw your video
MICHIGAN CITY - Indiana State Police Tuesday released the names of the off-duty officers involved in Saturday's shooting in the parking lot at Michigan City's St. Anthony's Hospital. Michigan City Police Department Sgt. Ken Havlin, a 30-year veteran of the force, and Michigan City Officer Charles Henderson, a 20-year veteran, were the off-duty officers working security at the hospital at the time. State police investigators say Havlin was standing next to the driver's door of a man who was refusing to go into the hospital for treatment. Henderson was at the passenger door. They say Thomas Walsh III then pulled a gun inside his truck when Henderson opened fire. State police say Henderson feared Walsh was going to shoot Havlin. GOOD LUCK
Loved this video,Scott ! Loved the views of the water, beach, and Lighthouse (the music that you played throughout the video was great, too) ! I'm going to be making a long journey from my home in Pennsylvania, through Ohio and Indiana on my way to Springfield, Illinois , in 10 days and I'm very tempted to make a pit stop in Michigan City . Looks like a great place ! Thanks so much for sharing this video !
Thank you very much! It is a great place for a quick stop through northwest Indiana. I also recommend checking out Indiana Dunes while you are there if you have extra time! Thanks for watching!
I spend my summers in MC Scott...and yes, it is the Scottmobile. Thanks for posting and next time check out the outlet mall and South Shore train, you won't regret it!
Scottman895 Travel nice video! I live right near Washington park :) In Sheridan Beach. I love it here. I also watched your video of your drive through Gary. Your reaction is pretty similar to what most people say..just “wow”. It’s pretty rough. Very badly run city. Anyway, next time you come back this way, check out New Buffalo, Three Oaks and the rest of Harbor Country. Also, take a drive down Lakeshore Drive (runs through Michigan City, Long Beach, Duneland Beach, Shoreland Hills, & Michiana Shores, all In Indiana) and Marquette Drive / Lakeshore Drive In Michigan (New Buffalo, Union Pier & Lakeside) - all have beautiful houses!
Thank you very much! I have been to New Buffalo once, but only for a half hour. I should go back there and check it out more thoroughly in the future. I'll keep those drives in mind as they would make for a cool driving video! Thanks for watching!

Ever tried Popcorn world? Its at the lighthouse mall.
I have not. Popcorn does sound good however!
@@scottman895 Over 250 flavors of popcorn.
Wow, that's incredible! It's so hard to choose a flavor!
Couple blocks either way are ghetto lol
I remember hearing that about some of the areas west of downtown.
Don’t go to Gary Indiana
I actually went there later that day, but I only stayed in the car to film a driving video there.
