You can also disconnect the stand from the boom and use the boom part as a handheld boompole! Doesn't work as well as a real boompole, but it works when you're on a budget.
My favorite youtuber. You have made a huge difference about editing and producing videos. Thanks a ton.
Thanks for all the content man! I'm returning from the field after a 8 year break, and your clear concise edits really really help! Thank you!!!!
Thanks Caleb. Showed up to a musical performance with two mic stands with go-pro cameras on them for wide-angle side shots, and all the stage hands and roadies were impressed. The video turned out great too! Very versatile. I use the ones with the weighted base to keep the footprint smaller.
I've owned an audio recording studio in the not too distant past. I'm using those mic stands from that inventory all the time now in my video productions. I've wondered if other video creators did the same. I use it to holdup green screen, back drops, lights, etc. Caleb, you're a genius! Thanks for the vids.
Nice-I've been looking for an inexpensive way to incorporate a hair light. Picked up all three items-thanks for another great tut. Always appreciate your straightforward approach and honesty :)
This one of the best video from you... very nicely edited 3.29 minuets with intro and credit... full of bullet points... amazingly improved the delivering quality... thank you and I am learning how to produce the most efficient video as well with micro phone stand.....
ahhh very nice. This is JUST what I needed. Perfect video... thanks :)
I just ordered a microphone stand after I saw this video. Good work as every time. Please keep going on.
Helpful tip with the adapter part! Thank you!
Short and sweet! I love it!
This is so exciting! Just what I was curious about. I knew I would use one as a boom for my videos.
Sweet! Happy stand rigging!
I just got my Hola! Music stand..weird name but the quality is great. I'm so thrilled to be able to mount things correctly.
You have just made my year!
Whenever I come up with an idea I check out your channel to make sure that it's a good one. If it is you will have already done it. Love the channel.
Okay, that's it I'm Subscribing! I just watched two of your videos and I'm all in. Really good stuff, glad to onboard with your channel. Be well and stay encouraged!
Great stuff, as always!
This is exactly what I was looking for. I have many mic stands and few light stands.
The shot at 2:53 is on point! Nice job keeping that in the edit.
Nice video man!
yet another great video....I found this helpful. thanks Caleb
Thanks Ry!!!
That's some awesome suggestions
Will buy 2 of these! Oh yea!
It just so happened that I used my microphone stand as a hair light stand today. Works really well
fast and to the point, love it caleb :)
Great video thanks
Caleb, you make making videos easy.
If it wasn't for you, I have no idea how we'd make OUR videos. Thank you so much
Thank you for the kind words HelpfulGuys!
Always! You've added so much value!
Very cool, very helpful. Keep it up.
Good tips, buddy 👌🏼
Interesting that you have gone for this option. I have gone the other way - using lighting stands and light booms for holding mics. The reason is that so many mic booms droop (they do that on stage with mics on too). I find that the cheap lighting booms that you get on eBay are far less likely to droop. I use a low level lighting stand with a long flash bracket and I can get a couple of cardioid condenser mics on it for stereo recording. Either way, I think using the same stands for both uses makes sense.
Good tips!
As a former audio guy who's gotten into video lately -- I have definitely been trying to find uses for my boom mic stands, rather than spending some $$$ on the real stuff. Recently I used one as a table top overhead camera (small gx85) stand. I have a 5/8 to 1/4 adapter that also swivels -- good for demonstrations. If you don't have a sandbag handy, some gaff tape will help hold it to the table, as well as a just in case for the boom arm. I also have used them as reflector holders -- a spring loaded microphone clip helped with that setup.
You forgot another use. You can use it to as a mic stand. :)
Ah it looks like he got that one covered
Haha! Nice.
He did use it as a Mike stand for the Rode VideoMicro at the end of the video. Great quality to the video.
Great tips. I was thinking if it was possible to use a Rode boom arm to make a kind of Jib since you can twist and wrench it and make it do a lot of fun.
Thank you very much.
It's good, that you reduced the length of the video, cause often, they are too long, compare to useful information, that they provide.
Good job! Keep up such coefficient of usefulness! :)
audio guy here - 2:35 - NEVER spin the mic around to mount it! Hold it securely in one hand, unscrew the thumbscrew on the boom arm and twist the boom from the handle at the back. Tighten thumbscrew and you're done.
Will it hurt the mic? or is it just inefficient
it just can fall
What's the reason for this?
@@itsdannyftw its faster AND safer.
@@TheREAPERBlog Thank you!
Great again!
Great video as always!
Good tips
Thanks mate
Another good way is to use it as a teleprompter, you can put some soft foam furniture leg protectors on the end of some clamps, and use the boom extension as an arm to clamp the ipad too. Works wonders.
It's funny you make this video because I've been doing this for a while now. I don't make a ton of videos at home but I leave my mic stands set up and ready for when I do.
Hey Kaleb, any chance of you doing a slider series? I need your advice on a good one.
Great ideas for alternative mic stand uses! I used one mic stand to create diffusion in my latest shoot for an interview and it worked a treat. One thing though, you didn't mention how to hold the white boards to the mic stands!?! ;)
Hey Caleb, I'm thinking about buying the Rokinon 24 and 14mm cine lenses for my G7, have you used these? Any thoughts? Thank you!
I have a laptop tray that attaches to a mic stand. I use it to position my laptop directly behind my camera as a poor man's teleprompter. This method doesn't require any special prompter software either. I just type my text into Word, change the page color to black, the font color to white, and enlarge the font size to about 40. From there it's just a matter of having someone scroll for you using a mouse.
You can use it to hang bits of paper with text prompts on, great video :-)
Can you please do a tripod review with a fluid hesd for run and gun shoot? would be really grateful if you could do that...
Nice job man. You want to link me to some Amazon silk diffusion you like?
Great video, as usual!
Quick question. I've got a video idea for you that'd I'd love to see. You know how in recent vlogs, people (*cough* Peter McKinnon *cough*) are putting in some sweet B-roll?
In some of them, there is that slick zoom transition from something zoomed out to zoomed in.
Can you do a tutorial on how to do that in FCPX? I can't find any good ones for FCPX. That would be awesome ;)
Your audio sounds amazing... what type of mic are you using?
What an coincidence! Today I was thinking about Mike Stands and buying one
Amazing and FUN vid! I currently use a mic stand to record all my vids using the iKlip and iRig PRE HD hitched to a SHURE SM58. I am VERY interested in adding a light. What light are you using in this vid? #thanks!!
lovely stuff, where might I pick up the adaptors with different threads?
I use it sometimes to adjust the focus: put a piece of colored paper at the end of it, adjust where my head will be, than focus the camera... start shooting... go in front of the cam and start performing... if you do not have a fiend :-)
i used table clamp mic stand for camera.. it works fantastic , is there way to use it for softbox ? i have less space inroom
The standard thread for microphone attachments and accessories is 5/8-27. This is what you should look for when buying adapters and such. Example: 5/8-27 Female to 1/4-20 Male for the one shown in the video.
For us we have one as a overhead camera, and two for a backdrop. We want to be portable. So this is our setup for it.
Quick question, I use a mic stand for my IPhone X to capture video for an over head view of my brother playing the organ at my church. Question I have is, how do I stop the vibration from getting to my iPhone footage? When I record, the video is very shaky.
Would you recommend using a mic stand to mount a camera? or a tripod is better?
how much weight do you think a normal boom mic stand could hold? if everything was put straight up, using a sandbag, think it could hold an apature 672?
Thanks... great channel.
Thank you!
How about mounting a dslr on one?
Use them as mic stands!
I think I've had dreams where that intro music actually comes on in the background 😱😱😱
I'll use them as a tripod sometimes for my Gopro
Hello! I want to start filming, mostly cars (museums, some events, car tests and the process of reparing cars) for my blog. I have a NIKON 5100 with a AS-F NIKKOR 18-105 lense, a Camrock Spider Rig, some class 10 SD cards and 3 batteries. I want to also buy the MOVO VXR4000Pro mic that You have tested (its quite cheap and has nice bass - very important to me). But what next? There is so much stuff out there, im watching all those UA-cam movies about this and it makes me crazy. Could You pleas recomend smth ? Anything, what lenses i should choose for that cam, should i change the cam? Maybe another micro? What could help me doing shoots like these? Whats the best cheap or free program for editing (i have the VideoPad Video Editor for now)? As You see, i have quite cheap gear, thats becouse of the lack of money, but i have to start somwhere. I would be thankfull for Your help! PS Your channel is the best one of those i have found! So already thanks!
I'm always sad when I see people unnecessarily using camera mounted mics when a mic stand would've worked better. Great tips!
Beware of the 1/4" 20 (male), 5/8" 27 (female) adapter screw on Amazon (Nickel Brass) if your using this to attach your camera and gimbal. After months of shooting, the screw snapped causing my camera, panasonic G7, and gimbal, Feiyu tech a1000, to fall and hit the ground and gimbal breaking. I've looked at so many websites and can't seem to find anyone that makes custom screws like this, but in a stronger material. Any suggestions anyone?
We make a tutorial video but we don't have a mic so help us how can we make we mostly shoot with our mobile phone
why not use regular light stands? (by this I am not referring to C stands) They are in the same price range and are specially designed for what you showed in this video.
Where do you find that pice
How do i attach an iPhone or ipad?
Have you heard of the Triad Orbit Boom stands? They are heavier but do not take up more space for transporting or in your set-up. My review is here, honestly one of my favorite pieces of equipment: ua-cam.com/video/qJHt2Wc4tIY/v-deo.html
The first Amazon Link seems to be wrong? :c
Sadly it leads to !Hola Music (or whatever this is)
Its not a Mike Stand
How tall can they go?
There are different heights and lengths.
First
CALLYYT yep
Your channel is bad for my bank account. What clamps or attachments are you using to attach a foam core to the mic stand?
uhmm that just saved me $50+ dollars
Mic stand = cheap C-stand
1 fattest
PLEASE READ - Hi Caleb I don't mean to be rude in anyway but I think a change in the kind of vids of vids you make would be amazing. For example keep the product reviews and these types of production tip videos but also some vids where, for example, you make a 10 ep series about making short films like planning, script writing, and then, on the 10th, go out and make a short film. It would be great if you could give this a think and possibly do something like it?
TRIM YOUR SIDEBURNS. Seriously, I see stray hairs everywhere. PS I love your channel.
