I taught in South Korea for a year,,no complaints about the weather ('m from Texas)..it did get cold. some of the kids I taught were privileged assholes (private english school). I loved the people and the food. Koreans are some of the nicest people in the world.
Ahh nice! I’m from Erie & Philly but honestly after so much of my life I realize how detrimental cold weather has been to me haha so now even less than 15 C I don’t want to deal with long periods of time. My happiness is reliant on sunshine 🌞 I’m in Korea now and enjoying it quite a lot, especially the food!
Kayla, if you are still in Taiwan, I’d strongly recommend you to try more of its food there. The food there would definitely rival food you would get in Vietnam, if not better! 金門 is a very snapshot of what Taiwan has to offer. Happy stay. Taiwan is pleased to having you❣️台灣歡迎妳的到來和停留 🍎
As a Vietnamese who have ever lived in Taiwan and even some European countries such as Germany or Finland, I can say that the life in Taiwan is pretty comfortable and quite peaceful and it remains one of the most worth-living countries in my lists. I think I did realize when I was there is people in Taiwan are friendly (ngl, I am talking as an experiencer not foreigner saying initial thoughts or some shits). Taiwanese people in general can not communicate via English, but you actually learn some counting words (like from 1 to 100 which would enable you to do your shopping) and it's quite simple. I just went to the food vendors, pointed at what i want (normally i ticked randomly since I thought i could eat them all) and payed when i was there. Pretty simple, and I avoid talking bcz I couldnot understand anything. Compared to Vietnam, i assume those 2 countries are quite similar. But in Taiwan, somehow the procedures for foreigners from Europe or North America are easier. Moreover, either the low population or the high intellectuality/awareness, the life in Taiwan seems to be safer. Ofc Vietnam is safe but that's what i feel about Taiwan. AND one more thing worth mentioning here is the public transportation. It's optimized pretty much. Except the HSR, with just an easycard, you can literally go everywhere without booking transports in advance. On contrary, Vietnam has many beautiful places in terms of nature, for you to explore and enjoy due to its special favors of Nature. Otherwise, those 2 countries are not much different and you can explore a lot of things. Have fun! :)
As a Taiwanese living in Europe, I also want to visit Vietnam soon in the future. :) Meeting loads of Vietnamese here, they are also friendly, and the food is one of the reasons as well!

Some have opened up restaurants and their food taste like the Vietnamese restaurants in the US. But Hanoi's food is definitely spiced differently. I am glad you like Taiwan. Best regards.

There are always many factors to consider on the list when coming to a decision. Sometimes you just have to go for the decision and then know the result when times come. It's good that you ended up in Taiwan, especially the beautiful place, Kinmen. An adventure going abroad in early stage of life would probably be a fantastic gift you gave yourself. Nothing venture, nothing gain. You must have fruitful experience during your stay overseas. Cheers!
Thanks for your continuos support Chuck! It was definitely a challenge to made such a hard choice but Taiwan has treated me as well as I expected it would!
I'm currently teaching in South Korea right now and I'm also interested in going to Taiwan. To answer your question about whether your ideas are true, I have obviously been to Korea lol and I would say it is definitely cold here during most of the year. I haven't visited Japan or China but I have been to Vietnam and while I love the bustle of it, it is extremely hot and I feel like living there permanently in that type of heat would make me uncomfortable. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it :)
I've been trying to manifest Taiwan into my life for years now! 😍 I have lived in both Japan and South Korea, and I'll probably make videos about my experiences but one point for each is that I don't like how intense Japanese work culture is; and you can't say anything negative about South Korea otherwise the Knetizens and Koreaboos will eat you alive 😶...😬

I was going to teach in Vietnam, but then I found out that they won't let you send your money back to your home country. You have to have a good reason and when you say that you are sending it to your parents as a gift or loan or sending it to your own bank account and they still say NO. I will continue applying here in Cambodia for now, since it is very easy to send your money back to your home country if you find a job.

Very interesting video. I had to go through the same thought process...As a UA-camr it was also important to me to be able to stay online and continue my UA-cam channel. I chose Songdo, South Korea for 1 year and after that I came to Beijing. I have been in Beijing for 4 years now. Best decision ever. As a teacher with a teaching degree in English, Geography and Music...the salaries are really good. I am currently working at a American Primary School and their salaries for a normal English Homeroom teacher are on the same level as what a principal makes back in my country of South Africa. You can maybe do an interim in China for a few month in Southern China. It's very close and you can see the shared heritage with Taiwan (Vietnam and China have also shared heritage).
If you ever look into teaching somewhere else I’d highly recommend Vietnam. The weather it really depends on where you are. Hanoi is unbearably hot in the summer (particularly July) and cold in the winter (but not freezing). I liked the weather there with the exception of those summer months. Pre covid people would just fly to Thailand for the weekend to re enter the country on business visas after finding employment but it may not work that way post covid. You are right about the litter, I found Taiwan so much cleaner when I visited! Vietnam is a fabulous country though and the people are very friendly. It’s a cool place to be an expat 🇻🇳
I look forward to traveling to Vietnam and maybe staying a month or so -- who knows if I'd end up teaching but I have a few friends that lived there before and I loved watching their lives there! Plus I love Thailand, so it would be nice to be that close!
Heya, nice to see one of your videos. I started asking the real questions in the search bar.... aaaand I ended up here. Given the current situation, I'm waiting for the borders to open. I agree with what you've said and here's one question I have: The bigger problem right now is fully explaining my decision of leaving (England) and trying to see if I could live in Taiwan. Are there any tips you could provide if you have any? (It was so much easier when I left my home country the first time, no idea why it is so that(aa)t hard now - with the family I mean) I know family differs everywhere you go but anything helps. Keep up the awesome work.
Great questions! Where did you live abroad the first time and how long? For me, I lived away from family for about 7 years in the USA before I moved abroad so it was a simple decision. I think if you're putting your happiness and livelihood first that's what matters -- and if it's not in England, then it may be elsewhere!
@@KaylaCosmos - I moved to Denmark from Romania and lived there for a couple of years. I had some help from my family but was otherwise fine if I didn't have it. I came to England and for a while, I stayed with them. I moved out but I had to return when the lockdowns started. Later I moved out again and returned in August temporarily because my contract ended and couldn't find a suitable place in time. Now I'm kind of forced to stay until I secure another job. There is a lot of back and forth and a level of reliance on them. Now that I am trying to for, lack of a better word, break that they either have doubts or, to be more generous, they want to make sure I'm fine. I trust that I'll be fine but there are some uncertainties for sure. It also does not help that my mom think that ROC is the same as PRC mostly because they have China in the name. With her living through the last parts of the time when Romania was communist and a highly educated person, I am just amazed. (Since when saying that this is the people's republic ever made it so?). Anyways, this is my situation. Safe to say, England is nice and I really like it here. Truth be told if I wanted I could probably enjoy it here, but the question is do I want to? @@Lone_Star86 - Now, of course, if you make some good friends things change but that is like a small pocket of pleasantness. Again, not to say it is bad. I am fine here in England. I trust that both countries have their own charm and would be worth visiting if nothing else. If I were to only have to choose from either (to reside in), I'd more readily choose Taiwan over China. Tis a political system choice (with some societal aspects) more than anything. Right now, if nothing comes up faster (not religious but God willing), I'll probably just wait until I can get British citizenship. That'll surely help fasten applications. Other than that, just figuring out how to best enjoy my time here.
I lived in China for 3 years and I intended to go back, but ya know, COVID! So now I'm reassessing my next move and considering Taiwan for various reasons.
I lived in Taiwan was awesome! Now i dont know wether to come back or go Vietnam, Cambodia or japan arghhh Omg it was so clean in Kaohsiung and Taipei they picked the litter literally everyday, back in the uk its only once a week.

But I might try applying in Taiwan too. As I used to live here for 7 years. Why not try to go back again. Thanks for the info.

It might be also worth noting that South Korea does not do criminal record checks for job purposes. So if you are from the UK which by law requires criminal records checks in order to teach in the UK - your home career in teaching may be blocked!
@Daniel-qu2kh you can save 500 US dollars a month while living comfortably. You can save more than that if you eat the school lunch every day, live in a small cheap apartment, and cook for yourself all the time. But I have fun and go out to eat a lot and have a gym membership. I have a cool motorcycle, and I still have extra money at the end of the month. This is not because my salary is so high, but because the cost of living here is so low
4:47 That giant replica of artillery shell erected in commemoration of Victory of 823 Bombardment if it were a real thing, it would be the size similar to cannon shell of the infamous Paris Gun which weighted 1,350 tonnes with its 7-tonne explosive shell that could penetrate even the concrete bunker built in WW2 era on France's Máginot Lìne. Now the development of self-guided precision missile has rendered them obsolete. But we still keep some in place due to low-cost production and maintenance. Hey...your video is really helpful....i am looking for pre school teacher but i don't have any proficiency certificate in English...is IELTS test result work instead of that..?
I’m thinking about potentially teaching English after I graduate college, in large part so that I can learn Chinese much quicker. How was your experience learning Chinese and do you think it’s reasonable to become very proficient in the language through living in Taiwan and teaching English for a year?
1:44 I didn't know conformative was an actual word, until I looked it up. Shouldn't it be conformist though? Lao shi, what's the difference between the two?
Not too much -- but perhaps it's because I felt like life in the US was constantly unstable while daily life in Taiwan is quite stable and safe. Still, I realize the possibility Taiwan may lose its democracy someday...

Beautiful photographs!!
Thank you!
great vid, it's so nice to see you you are happy to stay here in Taiwan Kinmen girl kayla.

I lived in Taiwan was awesome! Now i dont know wether to come back or go Vietnam, Cambodia or japan arghhh
Omg it was so clean in Kaohsiung and Taipei they picked the litter literally everyday, back in the uk its only once a week.
This is Kingmen, the frontier island of Taiwan, and the national Kingmen park has many old buildings.
I would really love to teach in Taiwan! I'm currently teaching English here in Vietnam. I'm looking forward for my next country to teach English. Thinking about Japan or Korea. But I might try applying in Taiwan too. As I used to live here for 7 years. Why not try to go back again. Thanks for the info.
Oh nice! You used to live here? What part? I also can't wait to visit Vietnam! And welcome to Taiwan if you chose here, I definitely recommend if the things in my video I talk about appeal to you😍
@@KaylaCosmos Kaohsiung and Hsinchu 😊 thank you Kayla! This gives me a lot of hope! I will try my best. And please, visit Vietnam soon too. Great food and completely different from Taiwan 😂
Thank you for this very informative video Kayla~
Yes! My pleasure to talk about. I hope you found it helpful 🙂
Food is definitely better in Taiwan. Cleaner and safer too but I'll let you decide if you ever get to Vietnam.
Oh I will definitely get to Vietnam.
@skikid00 Agreed. My uncle has been living in Vietnam for over 20 years now and I myself have traveled from south to north Vietnam.
Taiwanese food is not inferior to Vietnam. It's just you were stuck in the Kinmen islands...
越南光用想的就知道能取得比較多的香料
台灣的香料多半是罐裝的,外面的食物又很看人的口味,想想也是理所當然
恭喜Kayla 快破1萬訂閱量了!
It might be also worth noting that South Korea does not do criminal record checks for job purposes. So if you are from the UK which by law requires criminal records checks in order to teach in the UK - your home career in teaching may be blocked!
Because you are smart ☺️
really interesting footage, welcome to Taiwan, hope you have tried all kinds of Taiwanese cuisine.
Thanks for loving and stying in Taiwan
...connection with this little island... STOP THE FIREWORKS!
That is soooo funny.
Hahahahah XD I had so many little problems filming -- I'm losing my sanity haha. I'm glad you thought it was hilarious 😂
I've been teaching in Vietnam for 1 and 1/2 years. It's pretty awesome I have lots of extra money
How much do you save a month and do you just have a non teaching degree
@Daniel-qu2kh you can save 500 US dollars a month while living comfortably. You can save more than that if you eat the school lunch every day, live in a small cheap apartment, and cook for yourself all the time. But I have fun and go out to eat a lot and have a gym membership. I have a cool motorcycle, and I still have extra money at the end of the month. This is not because my salary is so high, but because the cost of living here is so low
4:47 That giant replica of artillery shell erected in
commemoration of Victory of 823 Bombardment
if it were a real thing, it would be the size similar
to cannon shell of the infamous Paris Gun which
weighted 1,350 tonnes with its 7-tonne explosive
shell that could penetrate even the concrete bunker
built in WW2 era on France's Máginot Lìne. Now the
development of self-guided precision missile has
rendered them obsolete. But we still keep some in
place due to low-cost production and maintenance.
The shorter range Howitzer ones.

You make the decision based on what you want.

Japan, Korea and Vietnam are all awesome. However, Taiwan is super awesome. You made a good choice.
Yes! I hope to travel to all these countries and enjoy them as well :)

Africa is a good choice I love it there but Japan has a LOT of snow so good call.
Ahh wow, do you live in Africa?
@@KaylaCosmos we live in the USA but we go to Africa frequently three months per trip
I’m thinking about potentially teaching English after I graduate college, in large part so that I can learn Chinese much quicker. How was your experience learning Chinese and do you think it’s reasonable to become very proficient in the language through living in Taiwan and teaching English for a year?
還真厲害 3. 2. 1. 雞叫聲. 妳們是商量好的嗎. 🤝 👍 妳所住的金門曾經有駐紮12萬精兵. 如果妳那時候來一定很樂鬧.😃😄😆😁

"Why did I say no to China..."
As a Taiwanese, I really don't like this part...
as the tone and your expression are not sarcastic enough.

1:44 I didn't know conformative was an actual word, until I looked it up. Shouldn't it be conformist though? Lao shi, what's the difference between the two?
But in the winter, Jinmen is very cold, I think
Yes but this winter we only had like two really cold days
請問金門女孩想去下一個國家是哪裡?要多吃鳳梨喔(當季水果),已訂閱
謝謝你!嗯,接下來要去哪裡?好好待在台灣,直到邊界再次開放。但是我想去泰國!
Believe you ,your choice is right
As a youtuber have you thought about China's plan to reunify with Taiwan? Not trying to be rude, I just want to hear your perspective on it.
Not too much -- but perhaps it's because I felt like life in the US was constantly unstable while daily life in Taiwan is quite stable and safe. Still, I realize the possibility Taiwan may lose its democracy someday...

是的,但我來自有雪的地方。韓國和日本等國家也更冷,但我現在住在南台灣,冬天一點也不冷。
