- "There's a gap in tradition that ne'er will be filled
A wide gap that ne'er shall be mended
On the hill o'er town we laid you down
'Twas sad that your young life ended." from the late Junior Crehan, Mullagh, County Clare. www.ramblinghouse.org/2009/07/...

""When I think of Willie Clancy, I think of Co Clare...he brought out an Irishness, the voice of the Irish poets...and the voice of Ireland as a whole." What a lovely clip, Michael. Thank you.

A great Piper - thank you for this nice video
Pure nostalgia, loved the young Muiris Rohans tribute as Gaeilge,
The footage is a clip from a TV series of RTE archive material (Reeling in the Years), where programmes in the series featured news items from each year of RTE broadcasting. The producers generally used songs that were at Number 1 in the charts during the featured year as background music. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" was at No 1 in 1973.
Dear Mike,
Thank you for supplying a new soundtrack; it makes the video a poignant document, with the music reminding us of all that was mourned that sad day. Luckily, we still have many of his recordings, especially the double CD issued in 2009 by 'RTÉ Libraries and Archives' under the name of 'The Gold Ring'.
Come to think of it, I wonder if a full documentary was ever considered, or even made, on 'The Life and Music of Willie Clancy'?
Thanks again, Mike.
With kind regards;
Patrick.
Nice job, Mike! I'm packing up my sea stores and tarrying no longer. I'll be there in 8 weeks (at least that's the plan..
Thanks for all your posts. What a collection!
I've replaced the audio with a recording of Willie Clancy playing a slow air called "An Páistín Fionn." The audio track came from You Tube Editor Library which has a great selection of tunes.
@clarebannerman indeed he did, an iconic character muiris was, and lest we forget that it was he that came up with the whole concept of a summer school to learn traditional irish music, as a tribute to his close friend which we now know as the '' Willy Clancy Festival''
Muiris O Rochán passed away 18/10/2011....go ndéana Dia trocaire ar a a anam.
Bannerman, thanks for the video, BUT ceol elton seán.
