Thankyou! Your description of Sheffield knife making and the people that carry on the tradition was great. I totally enjoyed it quite educational quite well done. From the steel city of Pittsburgh pa. I thank you again
While watching this history of Sheffield cutlery, a package arrived. My new A. Wright & Son gentleman's jack, spear point blade, ebony scales. What a wonderful sensation to hold a brilliant piece from that part of the world while learning about the people and places that make it happen. Cheers!
@cmd2four Sounds a brilliant knife. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, mate. Took a while to make this one but one of my most enjoyable. Cheers mate. I enjoy your comments brother 👊
She has her own site. I don't think she has sold any knives for a couple of years. But all her works on there. We'll worth a visit. They are like art. Stunning all of them. Cheers Eric 👊 see you on the discord mate
Afternoon brother, absolutely loved this one , could have watched for hours, "duck reg" 🤣🤣 was a my favourite classic saying from Trevor you know the story, and I love how the old workshops haven't changed nothing fancy just a place to get the job done , keep up the great work 👊
Great video mate ! You certainly put the work in on this one didn't you ? You are quite right , the stories , traditions and knowledge of these cutlers needs to be kept alive , so they need to be highlighted .......which is where you come in matey !
Thanks, Tony. I love these kind of videos. I dragged my family round Sheffield scouting the place out. They were good sports, bless them. Hope you're doing well mate? See you on the discord. 👊
Enjoyed seeing the photos of the historic area you toured in person. I also enjoyed the historic information you provided of the area. Great video thank you for sharing your trip.👍🙂
Brilliant video, well done! I’ve tried my best too highlight the Sheffield Knife Maker across various UA-cam creators, but I’ve lacked the energy to do this sort of deep dive. Keep up the good work!
Cheers, Eric 🙏 You've done more than highlighted, mate. I think I've told you this before, but you got me into Sheffield knives. Hope you're doing well? You sounded like me on the last video. Hands full with the kids (grand kids). Thanks again, Eric 🫡
How very interesting So far I own an Oak Sheepsfoot Barlow by I-XL and a Stag Bunny Knife by J Rodgers I’m definitely looking for a few other Sheffield made knives I definitely appreciate your cheerleading for your country’s products
I purchased an Arthur Wright knife about 6 months ago. It is a beautiful Barlow. I have a problem with it. It is very difficult to open and close. I have tried to break it in but have not had success.
James return it, mate. I'm sure whoever you got it from will sort you out. Something like that most definitely. A. Wright is very well known for strong pulls. Not all Sheffield knives have such strong pulls. Let me know how you get on, mate?
This is the thing that really bothers me about some of the life makers in Sheffield today. They are goaded by a number of UA-cam reviewers who equate the strongest pull as the best knife. Most of us really don’t want to break her nails every time we open a pocket knife I think I’ve got this message over with Taylor‘s eyewitness, but nowhere else!
Totally agree with you @slick_slicers if you use a pocket knife correctly it doesn't matter if it has no snap at all , we all like to hear the little snap when it opens but it's all got a bit silly now , as with the gaps etc , anyway gonna shut up before I say something to offend someone 🤣👊
The football stadium at the end is Bramall Lane, the home of Sheffield United and you ought to adopt them as your club because their nickname is 'The blades.'
@rain-bender4712 😂😂 Brilliant comment 😂😂 I have a football team already 🦊💙. But I will cheer them on in spirit. Sheffield is a brilliant place. Can't wait to get back. 👊
I'm not into knives or cutlery but from 1983 to 2013 I worked for an upholstery company & I used to buy shears from William Whiteley and Kutrite, also known as Ernest Wright in Sheffield. I used to call at William Whiteley when they were on Broad Street in Sheffield. A quick search shows William Whitely are still in business whereas Kutrite/Ernest Wright are no longer trading.
@Renegade-g2w They look amazing. Thanks for this comment. They have been around since 1760, I took from their site. A lot of cutlery companies did scissors. I see they have some pocket knives. All locking, unfortunately, as I like slipjoints. But I could see me doing a video on this in the future. If I do, I will be thanking you on it for the heads up. The scissors look fantastic quality!!! Brilliant comment, mate!! Thank you 🤝
I kinda agree with you on the Wrights. A few of mine have broken in and eased off a bit, though. I love American cutlery, Solingen, and Sheffield. All my favourites. I think Sheffield probably manufactures knives to a more traditional way. But love them all equally 👊 Sorry for the late reply
Thank you. Vert true statement. Hope you are getting used to the retirement. A lot of people have retired from our place. When you have a catch-up with them. They say it's a strange feeling. Some of them still get up at the crack of dawn as so used to it. Thank you, Sir 🫡 👊
@@SteelCityKnives no it's not silly at all I see your passion you keep it going I can see you as one of the best and that's what they don't like and they should be encouraging you keep it going thumbs up

Hugely informative Martin - particularly the J Adams input, which was news to me!

Excellent video brother. I love it. I was a but taken back by the A Wright building haha. Great things come in small boxes though.
It's not so much the buildings...its the talent that lies within.
