- Hi Guys, in this video I do a full respray on a VW T5 in RAPTOR PAINT.
This T5 was originally done in half Raptor but he has now decided he wants Full Raptor.
This Raptor Black Respray actually looks pretty bad ass to be fair. I wasn't sure if i would be keen on the end result as it's not really my cup of tea but i actually really like it and prefer it to it's previous look.
Don't worry by the way, I'm back out travelling again now and bringing you more of our beautiful country to visit.
Just thought i would share this for all the Van Life folk out there.

Gotta say it actually turned out a lot better then i expected it to and i'm really pleased with it.

Hey buddy, that looks awesome. I have same swb t5, with tailgate. Do you do minor rust repairs, normal stuff wheel arches, corners of sliding door then smash it with Raptorisation. Is there a choice of colours by chance?

Raptor is really tough and scratch and UV resistant. It's actually marketed as the toughest paint on the market.
It was originally created as pick up bed liner but then the 4x4 boys started painting there toys in it and now camper folk are loving it.

Nice Job, do you need to fill chips etc? Did you use the raptor spray gun?
Thanks, it's always best to do as much of the bodywork as possible. Raptor does hide a lot but not everything. Use the vari gun 👍
I was going to do my van in raptor but every one I spoke to said I need air fed mask not normal 3m respirator it's put me off now what are your thoughts?
I used a cartridge one which I use for all my painting.
Yes an air fed mask would always be better but as long as you're in a well ventilated garage then I don't see any problem.
Tbh most videos I've seen I've seen very few people wearing air fed masks.
I'm guessing this is just a one off and you don't paint cars every day, I'd say go for it 👍
hi, what grade sandpaper did you use as preparation
Hi, 180 grit is what I generally use for a good key. Not too rough, not too fine👌 cheers 👍

Hi. I just wonder as I know once painted in raptor you shouldn’t expose on any rainy weather for 48 or 72 hours? Is that correct? Why I’m asking I would come to you from Ireland as here nobody does that kind of painting ridiculous. I like that your job looks super. Another question can you regulate a grittiness larger smaller grittiness? I would prefer large. And as I know there is all colours available in raptor I would need blue. Thanks again and I’ll wait for your response.
Hi thanks for your enquiry, can't believe nobody in Ireland does it that's mad. Once it's hardened off then the weather shouldn't be a problem. Cold weather is not good for painting it in but I would leave it in the garage until it's ready to roll out.
Yes you can alter the grit so it's finer or softer and yes you can tint it to any colour.

One of them things everyone likes but not many have the balls to do it 😂 thinking about the arch and moulding kit getting done in raptor and also the sills on my T6. Is the finish youve done here about as smooth as you can get it?
I reckon as it grows in popularity more people will get it done, they do look good with the moulding on but you need wheel spacers then to bring the wheels flush again. Think we used 25mm on the front and 30 on the back. If you check out the olive green crafter I did that's a bit smoother 👍
how did you get the raptor liner so fine?
You need a variable nozzle gun and the air pressure set right. Gave the gun instructions in the vid just before I started painting 👍
painted once or twice? How many liters of paint did you need?
Gave it a couple of coats, about 12 bottles if I remember correctly 👍

For a van that size I'd say about 1700 as it's a pretty big van, cheers
how much raptor did you use? I have a Mercedes sprinter I want to full raptor but not sure how much paint I need
Hi Ally, I've just finished a lwb crafter which is the same as yours I guess and that took around 20 bottles, think the t5 took about 12.
Ace job!! you wouldn't happen to know the tyre spec and if it's been lifted slightly? cheers.
Cheers, the rims are standard 16 inch steel rims with 35mm spacers. Not sure on the exact tyre size unfortunately. As far as I can recall it's not been lifted, standard suspension.

Did you primer the van before applying raptor paint?
Primered the areas that had been repaired, it's not always necessary to primer the full van if you have a good original topcoat to key to.

It appears to have a nice Sheen from the texture in the sunlight ,looks fantastic . I need to get my white sprinter looking like that for more of a ‘stealth mode’ .
How many coats did it take ?
Yeah I think because of the grittyness of it when the light catches it on a n angle that's when it gives that sheen. I have seen others done that don't do that soo I guess it's all down to the texture.
Took roughly 2 full coats and I then gave it a flash coat to get rid of the streaks that you sometimes get.

Washing it must suck! How do you clean it if it's caked in mud? Guessing it's not that simple.
I'm guessing you just jet wash it or use the brush attachment, definitely wouldn't use a sponge though 🤣🤣

That's okay, I thought that's what you meant I was just wondering what van you had lol. For a t5 you'd need around 16-18 bottles. For a crafter or similar size around 24. Cheers 👍

How many bottles duz it take to spay the hole van 🤔
If I remember rightly it took about 10 bottles. I'd order a couple more though as back up if you're going to do it, different guns different settings 👍

Yeah drop me an email and I'll have a look at it. Tbf though not sure how the metallic would work as the metal is Known to sink into the raptor so doesn't really have the same effect.
