Yes, less than 6mm, except some kind of special cases. Once you have that much surface area to work with, wax is plenty secure, and faster / easier. Also, once you have that much surface area, using a heat-based release starts to run more risk of pumping heat into the stone to the point of degrading the new bond on the far side.
