What to Expect in Your Prostate Check-Up (Doctor's Honest Guide)

If you are worried about your Prostate this video is for you. It is important to stop postponing that first Doctor appointment and get yourself checked. In this video, I will be covering exactly WHAT TO EXPECT in your first consultation with a doctor, to help you prepare for it BUT also, to understand WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO GET YOURSELF CHECKED.
I will break down the appointment structure for you, and explain to you the STEP by STEP that I do in every first appointment Prostate Checkup.
Step 1 - Patient History
I chat about the patient's symptoms and the aim here is to try and rule out certain conditions that can give people similar issues to Prostate Enlargement.
Step 2 - Investigation
Normally, I check a urine sample for microscopic signs of blood in the urine and also for urine infections. And, I will be requesting some blood tests such as PSA, Kidney, Liver, Diabetes check, Cholesterol, and Full blood count.
:: Remember ::
If you're having a PSA test, you should not have:
- ejaculated in the past 48 hours
- exercised heavily in the past 48 hours
- a urinary infection
- had a prostate biopsy in the past 6 weeks
Each of these may give an inaccurate PSA reading.
Step 3 - Examination
I explain each step of the Digital Rectal Examination process for you to understand it and be prepared for it.

I am currently concerned regarding a visit to my GP, with stomach, right testicle & strange internal pains from deep in my groin.
Worse was to come, after blood sample I was informed traces of blood was in my urine.
Dr is treating me for prostatitis with anti-biotic.
I am concerned, as I know my body.
I have lost 2kg, I do train a lot but my weight never alters.
My symptoms have been the same for 7-9 monthes
