Eliminating automatic qualifiers will be a positive correction to the problem of allowing weaker scheduled teams to displace strength of schedule as a factor.
They're going to have to figure out how to seat 12 teams with as little intervention by a committee as possible. If not, there's always going to be controversy.
If I'm Deboer I get a new OC and make Wommack adapt to a 4-3-4...we need another body up in that box in the SEC. Got gashed sev times on basic runs this year. Also tighten up on discipline a little bit. Undisciplined teams usually make numerous mental mistakes in games such as with penalties.

This year is just a sales pitch to the "NFL" Markets of Texas and the NorthEast ... Think about it ... Its all about "growing the game", remember??? Since about week 7, it was decided they would leave out as many SEC teams as possible, give the home games to NorthEastern or Texas Cities, and try to grow viewership. Because we all will watch either way. Its these other markets that only watch when their teams are "gooooooood". Absolute debauchery. CFB died today.
There’s only one team getting a game in the northeast and trust me nobody up here is running to happy valley unless you’re already a fan. We consider them more Midwest. I do agree with most of what you said. Texas already loves football. Unless a team like Rutgers is getting pushed then I’ll buy it. They abt to get a new Nike deal so maybe
I totally agree with you and I’m gonna take it a step further. While the SEC is angry that all there teams missed out it’s also a reason for a new change in the format. Idk where it will go but the SEC will have the last laugh, Josh Pate said something similar today too and I agreed. College football and the committee gonna regret this ranking…
Until the transfer portal and NIL are brought under control and regulated, loyalty to the team will forever be in jepordy. For now, all we can do is brace ourseleves for the worst. While hoping for the best. It's not just an Alabama problem. It's a college football issue past due in need of being fixed. Coach Saban tried to warn everyone that this would happen.
We can blame Milroe until we are black and blue in the face. The fact of the matter is that this coaching staff did not get the job done. Play calling on both sides of the ball was straight garbage. There were no halftime adjustments in every game they played in this year. I wish all the players that are leaving the best.
Obviously, the framework of these playoffs wasn't set up to get the 12 best teams in. It was set up to get the 12 teams with the best records in regardless of who they played just so they could say they made the playoffs and then go home.
You got to say what else he said. He also stated that we were in control of our own destiny and we didnt handle busy. Coach Saban is right it's our fault we are not in.
Bama getting left out was lesser of two evils. If they leave SMU out, the conference championship games would be in jeopardy and possibly lose millions. By snubbing Bama it sets a precedent that it doesn’t matter who you play, only that you win. All about the $$.
Ala had 2 ugly looses to teams that they should have blame completely out. Yeah they lost to Tennessee, but at least they were ranked and actually a good team.
If Milroe was smart he took notice today that 4 bama qb's started in the league today goes and balls out in the bowl game and raise his profile just as Bryce did against K-State. You know put good stuff on tape and add to your value" as Saban would say.
Issue is Bama is losing its championship lure, its no longer the qbu, wru, rbu, no longer scary at the line of scrimmage, coach is everyones best friend and we barely crack the top 10 in NIL. Nothing is coming easy & bama needs new energy.
As far as the coaching goes leave it alone they just started this year let them get their kinks work out when Nick Saban called them guys in he called Kaylen Debor and he knew what he was doing so let it be they'll get it right they just need to get a quarterback that can play consistent.
If strength of schedule is the highest value, then schools from weaker conferences will never have a chance to make the playoff. I believe strength of schedule needs to be a factor, as it currently is, but overvaluing strength of schedule will be dangerous. Alabama could have made it into the playoff, if they would have won when they had to - but they did not.
Alabama's known to play easy cupcake teams out of conference quite often so if they had more of a challenge out of conference then there could be a better argument. But Alabama doesn't want that smoke
How in the hell are they suppose to predict who the out-of-conference cupcake teams will be years in advance? Even with just a year in advance UA could have scheduled FSU, Michigan, and Washington and this year that would be a “cupcake schedule”. The other conferences suck! They are ALL cupcakes! UA has played Oregon, Notre Dame, FSU, and Clemson fairly often considering how many other teams are out there. Typically (based on recent history) those would most likely be the toughest out-of-conference teams, but it turns out that they suck it up year after year. They are “good” when they don’t play any decent SEC teams and suck when they do. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence though. . . Which is all the more reason that the ACC having 2 teams in the “top 12” is absolutely bananas. Their Champion isn’t even in the top 17! How are you suppose to weed out the cupcakes?!?! Scheduling “tough” out-of-conference games is a crapshoot for any SEC team. If you are counting on that to get you into the playoffs, you are done before you even started. Not like it would matter anyway. Even if UA would have beat Oregon AND UGA this season, that would just mean Oregon would no longer be in the top 10 and Alabama would still have a win over a #1 or #2 UGA. SMU and Clemson still wouldn’t have a win over anyone that matters, but Clemson would still get the auto-bid and SMU would still get picked over a 3 loss UA because it is VERY APPARENT that strength of schedule does NOT matter. That is the only thing that we will learn from this CFP.
It’s coaching, plain and simple, do you think these same 18 year olds would get pampered in basic training? No! The new coach got the same players Saban recruited, Saban won with these players, the new coach trying to be their friend could not! Somebody has to call a player out for loafing around!
Three losses in the SEC is unacceptable for any SEC team. I’ve been an Alabama supporter for many many years well since 89 and if I’m not mistaken, which I’m not Nick Saban lost more than three games in his first year at Alabama, but it takes a great coach to turn it around And I think we have a coach that can do it. He only lost three games, his first year at Alabama, and so if he improves the team now, which is going to be hard to do at this time with the NIL. NIL has ruined college football also the transfer portal is something else that has ruined college football, these young men are being taught that if they don’t like what’s happening or you’re not making the money they think they deserve, just pick your toys up and go somewhere else that is not a healthy work habit.
All I can say is Bama better win that Michigan game. Otherwise the committee called it right. I hate out of conference cupcake games. I want to see steel sharpen steel.
The thing about this year’s Bama was “inconsistency,” this is the one thing Saban trained out of his teams. But on a further note: Bama getting kicked out of the CFP is good for College Football. Maybe his shadow over the committee dissipates by realizing that Saban is no longer the HC…& Bama is back on earth after a long time of soaring through space!
Find a way to assure the best teams in the league play for the championship, include both finalists in the tournament, give the winners a bye and hold 4 slots for the best next four teams. Teams that don't make their league finals are the bottom four seeds. Only conference finalists are seeded in the first 8. This keeps the conferences strong while holding hope for very good teams that barely missed the league championship game...If mercenary players a dropping out then no point in your team playing. To remedy that, players sign an agreement to finish the season with their team which includes bowl games
Just because a team wins a championship game in their conference doesn't mean they deserve to go to the playoffs. It should be the strength of schedule 100 percent
Maybe the SEC can bring SMU and Clemson into the dysfunctional family. Look, Vandy is barely bowling and the Sooners are playing with tumbleweed. Bama just needs to get back to playing bruiserball and drop maybe just one during the regular season. As far as scheduling, ask Boise State to visit. Or Bama can go there. Beat some of these “playoff” teams earlier in the season and pencil in two bye weeks. Controversy meter will possibly go way down, but festivus must continue.
I also feel the players that choose to leave know things we don’t. They have first hand, behind the scenes knowledge and may feel with the current players and those coming in they will not have many opportunities. IMO that shows self doubt and lack of confidence they can win the starting job.
Theoretically 5 teams from the sec should probably in but the NCAA is going down the same road that Nascar did and growing the sport nationwide even if they alienate the south that built college football. We now have at least 3 "TCU's in the playoffs..
I don't really like the scheduling weaker non-conference games as a result of this year's outcome because we didn't lose any non-conference games this season...we just lost conference games...but i do get that overall it reduces the chances of more losses and it's nearly impossible to go through the SEC undefeated. So in that regard, for future scenarios...bring on the cupcakes, as the committee will reward you for it.
They didn't have two losses against terrible teams, and one being blown out by a terrible team. Bad losses reveal as much as good wins. SMU didn't have a bad loss.
@@TL-qr3iiyall got congratulated for losing conference champ game SMU is not better than alabama neither is Clemson either though and you say you didn't have a bad loss? look at who you lost to did lose to byu? and went to OT against DUKE ?? and a 3 loss Clemson? Get real

I really don't give a crap where we will play. Our games are not interesting at this point because the team is not committed to Bama. Only good thing is maybe Milroe will be gone and bowl practice will give Ty an opportunity to get a little jump on next season. Hopefully he will have players who want to be here.
The NINTH place team in the SEC was 5 - 3 in Conference. Alabama was 5 - 3 in Conference. The best way to make the playoffs is to do better than only 5 - 3 in Conference, so you're not tied with the 9th place team in your conference. Three SEC teams are in the playoffs....only lose as many games as THOSE teams, would be my advice. If you can't score a single touchdown against a team that's 2 - 6 in Conference (an Oklahoma linebacker outscored the entire Alabama team by 3 points!), maybe you shouldn't make the playoffs.
Alabama clearly scored a touchdown as agreed by the guest official on the network. Oklahoma had nothing to lose so they blitzed on every play. Oklahoma does have a good defense you want to shit on Bama that poorly played with many injuries. Half of the teams had a light schedule.
If Bama really wanted in, they should have won their games. Especially Vandy and my Sooners. I was confident we could beat Bama as they are quickly becoming just another top tier team with the portal and NIL $. Boomer!
Each division has a strength of schedule not just the SEC each team deserves to be in the CFP just because banana didn't make it the playoffs will continue
Silly question "why did Clemson come in in behind SMU when Clemson beat SMU?" ( in a lucky last second field goal of over 50 yards). A similar question - if GA Tech had beaten Georgia like they almost did, would GA Tech be better than Georgia, should that have gotten them into the playoff ahead of Georgia? Look at SMU and Clemson's rankings before that. 8 point differential. Clemson wasn't a playoff team if they didn't win the championship. SMU was already at large. A lucky field goal doesn't change that.
As tough as the SEC is, there is little reason to play strong non-conference opponents when schools from weak conferences like the Big 12 and the ACC play weeny non-conference schedules.
Saban is the wrong guy to be speaking about SOS. Saban got in over 2011 Oklahoma State with a vastly weaker schedule. Saban also got a free pass in 2017 with a schedule so weak it allowed Central Florida to claim a legitimate title.
@@borowland4942 No, SEC frequently had weaker schedules, go look up any of the BCS SOS metrics. In 2011, Bama was forced to play their starters all 4 qtrs against FCS Georgia Southern. Everyone outside of Bristow and Tuscaloosa knows ESPN bought that title.
@@paulshears5202 Don't take my word, Paul. You can look up Sagarin's NCAAF SOS for past seasons on USA Today's sight. There's never been an SEC team to ever win a national title that had a SOS as strong as 2011 Oklahoma State's.
Inconsistency done Alabama in.They seem to just have Georgias number, they destroyed LSU in Baton Rouge, beat a ranked albeit depleted Missouri team and a really great South Carolina team but lost to two 6~6 teams. That makes no sense. Now a lot of SEC teams lost games they should have won but taking two bad losses did them in no matter the strength of schedule. Can’t come into games totally unprepared like that.
I love Bama football.Unfortunately Bama was in control of its own destiny and we didn't win on the field. We can't leave it up to the committee you have to win on the field. Losing to Vandy and Oklahoma was a kiss of death. Yes our team is Now one of the best in the country. After beating GA somehow we loss our focus for a few games. We will be back next year with a stronger committment to Excellence after feeling this PAIN of being on the outside looking in. RTR and hold your heads up high..
I'm a die-hard Tide fan for half a century but...Alabama did NOT try in the Oklahoma game. There's no excuse for that. Getting left out of the play-offs is harsh but just punishment.
It depends on the year whether it suits them or not to use SOS. This year, it didn’t. So you have Indiana, SMU, Boise State. As long as they keep giving automatic bids, teams will get in that don’t deserve it because they won a conference championship game. It is what it is. We all knew that a 12 team playoff would get just a much griping as a 4 team playoff.
Nobody will remember who made the field in 12 team playoff a year from now...only the winner. Getting in a playoff isn't much more valuable than a good bowl if you are going out in first round. There hasn't been even 4 worthy teams in the past. So we suddenly have 12 Worthy teams ...no ...once you get past a few teams ...none are serious contenders to actually win the playoffs
Let’s give this new 12 team playoff system a chance to do whatever it’s going to do. There is a widespread perception in the non-SEC, non-B1G world, that college football exists only to serve and appease the financial needs of the SEC and B1G. News flash SEC and B1G: you’re not the center of the college football universe, no matter how much you convince yourself that you are from your perch in your siloed information world. College football will be instantly boring if the SEC and the B1G are the only two conferences that matter. Go PAC 12!
Odum "handlers" should have encouraged him to red shirt to learn the Bama WR role vs TE. He would have been a better asset to the team or even in the portal if he still decided to jump ship.
If Saban was still coaching Alabama would be in PERIOD ! It is really blowing up this team ! THEY HAVE BEEN THRU A LOT OF ADVERSITY AND THEN DISRESPECTED NOW ITHER ENTER TGE TRANSFER POOL !
If say Alabama Ole Miss and A&M are unhappy with their lot in SEC life, then joining the ACC is probably just a phone call away, they'd even honor their right to schedule historic rivals like Auburn.....FSU and Clemson probably wouldn't be too thrilled, but they'd understand.😮
I'm not a Tide fan but I was following college football since Bear Bryant and I realize the program is a top brand. The Tide bringing in a new coach matters more than most Bama fans realize. Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe and Kirby lost to Vanderbilt their first seasons.. Now Deboer did inherit a good roster at Alabama and Kirby didn't but Alabama will be alright if Daboer can land the players. This season should be his worst and should be better
Why would strength of schedule even be an issue this year? It's not as though we lost to strong teams - we lost to garbage teams. Trainers and players need to take care of business, and not worry about how strong of team they're facing.
Alabama in South bend man I wS looking so forward to that killer match up,and it would have been a rating bonanza for the cfp ,the way that game played out it was like god saying boy it ain't to be this year try harder next season 😮
Since college football has turned into this, we need contracts. You sign and stay for three years. if you don't produce by year two, we cut your pay. And then the power players that hold the coffers for you decide to pull the plug or not. The big money should be back end hold out money. No play; no payout. This should not be free agent stuff at this level.

Hope so! And a lifelong Bama Fan, but Ga is my 2d team cos of Kirby, a class act & great coach
Don't you think they deserve it?
as a bama fan its reload time we need to find out our identity on offense one year doesnt define this team and the future
Eliminating automatic qualifiers will be a positive correction to the problem of allowing weaker scheduled teams to displace strength of schedule as a factor.
Wait, didn't the SEC (and Alabama) want automatic bids. Make up your mind.
The Vanderbilt loss with Clemson beating SMU knocked Bama out…
They're going to have to figure out how to seat 12 teams with as little intervention by a committee as possible. If not, there's always going to be controversy.
Alabama gets respect because of its past and the media is bias because of this.
Know they know Alabama would win the playoffs
@@Bama.greg63 They would have a chance, now they have no chance.
We did not play Like Bama this year point and facts 100%
Fact: Alabama needs coaching changes. This should spark that discussion. We as fans need to be loud about this!
Maybe they’ll hire you. I can’t believe the looked passed you and to DeBoer who played for a national title last year.
OC has been bad for years at bama even when Saban was there
@@GHG_513 A new OC would be a great place to start. You can't say with a straight face that this staff lives up to the Bama standard.
@@GHG_513 Kalen is scared of the players and allows them to act like complete trash.
Saban would never tolerate this garbage.
I can't wait for cupcake Kalen to be gone.
@@bigticket0805 these "lessons to learn" and "eventual regrets" have destroyed the game. Too little, too late. CFB died today.
@@jbake1 For real bro, they messed up big time today. Hope they get used to us playing FCS North, East, South and West for non-conference games
@bigticket0805 should go Independent and schedule those teams, yes.
But the problem with Alabama were not that they beat the good teams, but lost terribly to the bad teams.
Vandy and Tennessee aren't terrible loses only Oklahoma was
@@splix2826 Vandy and OK had the same record 6-6.
@@TrienaSee Oklahoma beat bama by 21 points and vandy beat bama by 5 points so therefore not really a bad loss simple math
@@splix2826 All loses are bad. Hence the reason Bama goes home.
Bama shouldn't have lost to vandy and sooners, problem would be solved there was no snubbing
Same reason Bama got in last year.Alls fair!👍👏
So you can be a conference runner up and still get in, smu overrated and overranked
If we would've played notre dame or penn states schedule, we would've went undefeated.
Their non conference games weren't the issue. Their problem was losses to schools in the SEC that they should have beaten.
Breaking news, Bama will only be scheduling Pop Warner opponents next season so they can get an easy pass just like SMU.
They should try moving to a conference that doesn't have Oklahoma in it too.
@@drwinstonOboogi 🤣
They scheduled total cupcakes outside the conference.
Ala had 2 ugly looses to teams that they should have blame completely out. Yeah they lost to Tennessee, but at least they were ranked and actually a good team.
Not breaking news, Alabama’s 3 losses were to SEC teams, and they didn’t play any ranked non-conference opponent. Alabama pearl clutching is unreal.
Thanks to the portal teams can hoard talent and it hurts depth
@@kevinward6141 Saban taught that technique
@@alexmangrum90 thats why he is retired now
As far as the coaching goes leave it alone they just started this year let them get their kinks work out when Nick Saban called them guys in he called Kaylen Debor and he knew what he was doing so let it be they'll get it right they just need to get a quarterback that can play consistent.
Alabama has been a QB Away from the Natty for the past 2 years.
Outside of Hurts, who really didn’t even stay and finish at Bama, your QB’s have been absolute trash at the NFL level.
Bama’s glory days are over. It’s just a tough truth pill to swallow.
All I can say is Bama better win that Michigan game. Otherwise the committee called it right. I hate out of conference cupcake games. I want to see steel sharpen steel.
i would say let alabama an smu have a game win goes to the playoffs
And SMU would get smoked. Which is why they shouldn't have been in as an at large bid.
The NCAA has had their foot on the neck of SMU since 1987. It's about time they were treated fairly.
I was looking forward for Alabama coming to South Bend! Go Irish☘️☘️☘️
We really need to get rid of the "deserve to be" argument and just got to conference champions only and get rid of the committee.
I also feel the players that choose to leave know things we don’t. They have first hand, behind the scenes knowledge and may feel with the current players and those coming in they will not have many opportunities. IMO that shows self doubt and lack of confidence they can win the starting job.
It would help if Milroe threw to more than two receivers in games.
Let’s see if they list to my old man. We need Saban for president damn it
Theoretically 5 teams from the sec should probably in but the NCAA is going down the same road that Nascar did and growing the sport nationwide even if they alienate the south that built college football. We now have at least 3 "TCU's in the playoffs..
Agreed.
I’m not a Alabama fan but I can say that it really boil down to we are just tired of seeing Bama playing in the National Championship game
Wrong? Nah. Still lost 3 games to low and non ranked teams.Bama is not the only team in college football
This is bogus clickbait because Alabama played a very weak out of conference schedule. Mercer was on their schedule. Good grief
Michigan is 7-5. Wow! What a matchup. Gonna be a huge viewer crowd for the Outhouse Bowl.
A team that DIDN'T PLAY ONE RANKED TEAM let me repeat that DIDN'T PLAY ONE RANKED TEAM gets in?!
As for the bowl game, I couldn't care less.
They didn't have two losses against terrible teams, and one being blown out by a terrible team. Bad losses reveal as much as good wins. SMU didn't have a bad loss.
What about Army @TL-qr3ii
@@TL-qr3iiyall got congratulated for losing conference champ game SMU is not better than alabama neither is Clemson either though and you say you didn't have a bad loss? look at who you lost to did lose to byu? and went to OT against DUKE ?? and a 3 loss Clemson? Get real
I agree I feel we blowed it against vandy and Oklahoma but SMU has no legit wins I don’t think they should get in over some other teams
Get you a more consistent QB and maybe you make the playoffs..better luck next time.
Reason they did not get on the final twelve is they lost 3 games.
And also played three cupcake games...Mercer, W Kent, S Florida.
Clemson has 3 losses
Two of them against the bottom two teams in the SEC. Bad losses made it worse.
Oklahoma did us in. I guess I'll need to root for the local state team where I live. Ill always be RTR... but this play off year it will be GO DUCKS!!!
The reg. season is what it is. Let's see who's going to play in bowl game, get some playing time for up and coming players. After bowl game, coaching staff needs to do a deep and thorough dive on what went right and what went wrong honestly. Lessons learned and move ahead. RTR !!!
I really don't give a crap where we will play. Our games are not interesting at this point because the team is not committed to Bama. Only good thing is maybe Milroe will be gone and bowl practice will give Ty an opportunity to get a little jump on next season. Hopefully he will have players who want to be here.
the problem is ranking SMU in the top 15 to begin with
Agreed.
Send back texas and Oklahoma back to Big 12 and then schedule Mercer 2 more times and this is all Fixed
If Bama really wanted in, they should have won their games. Especially Vandy and my Sooners. I was confident we could beat Bama as they are quickly becoming just another top tier team with the portal and NIL $. Boomer!
I do not care. You should never lose to Vanderbilt and to a middle of the pack Oklahoma team. We did it to ourselves.
Every team brings they're best against the tide... for alot of teams it's they're superbowl... we are the measuring stick for where there team is...
I agree with Nick stop scheduling tough games because it's not gonna matter
Saban is the wrong guy to be speaking about SOS. Saban got in over 2011 Oklahoma State with a vastly weaker schedule. Saban also got a free pass in 2017 with a schedule so weak it allowed Central Florida to claim a legitimate title.
Playing in the SEC is harder than any OSU schedule that they’ve ever had. Plus we won the Natty 2011. Our 2011 team would’ve destroyed OSU
Lol someone saying Oklahoma State has a hard schedule when they haven’t played a playoff a contender 80 years is pretty rich
Lot of players hitting the portal. Wonder if something is up with coaching staff!!
I thought the same thing in 1983 and 1996. Hope it's different this time.
Are you the lady ❤who calls and talks to Paul Finebaun. God Bless you 🙏. Roll Tide FOREVER 💥🔥🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
@ never called him
If this is the case, why would the SEC ever go to a 9 game conference schedule.
I said the same thing about the rankings on Clemson and SMU
Bama, Don’t Schedule any tough Non Conference Games. Not with this Committee didn't give
You can’t lose to VANDY and lose to a 5-5 Oklahoma team and only score 3 points against them.
If they were in the Playoff, they would likely get beat the first game by Oregon; give it up Saban! The NIL has caught up with BAMA!
The answer is, the SEC needs its own playoff bracket! And the SEC Champions would for obvious reasons dwarf any nat'l CFB champion.
The bottom line we lost to two bottom feeders of the SEC. The loss to Oklahoma wad inexcusable.
“I guess you can say the same thing about South Carolina and Ole Miss” but you’re not because you believe the CFP is the Alabama invitational
adding Texas to SEC reduced the opportunity for the rest of the conference and incresed the odds of the conference Texas left, i think.
This should not be free agent stuff at this level.
at least 2 year minimum so they can feel things out a bit before they hit the road
Why is Bama playing a unranked team? Why not Miami UNLV or someone in the top 25. Is this punishment?
Strength of schedule like the old MSU coach said.... Who had the toughest schedule in 2024? That would be Michigan.
