I did the same - was a fantastic journey. One name that jumps out as inredible beyond belief i Mississippi Fred McDowell - check out his vid "Shake 'Em on Down". He is part of the North Mississippi Hill country blues - Lightning here is one of SRV's top idols - he is a Texas Blue legend - he has such dexterity in the blues shuffle and integrating solos into acoustic blues - he is the man! Big Bill Broonzy is another one who is SOOO insanely talented and ha such influential work I say check out "3 Songs- Live Big Bill Broonzy." The rest you sound like you are a great path with the names you mentioned - Blind Lemon Jefferson, T-Bone Walker, Blind Willie Johnson, Charly Patton - Son House I mean - what a monster artist - I am in on seeing reactions for this genre. I have plenty but I think Fred McDowell will be a revelation one you here him as is Big Bill.
Love this Ben! Sorry I'm late to the party.. great breakdown and I can't wait to see some more! Maybe not as classic as some others but what blew me away was when I found out what Fleetwood was like before Stevie.. not quite blues, more alt/indie rock for the time but DEF blues inspired. If you get a chance check out "love that burns" on fleetwoods Mr. Wonderful album.
Chili, I have a lot to say but will leave it out. You and I know (what good music/it's all about.).
