    Hey on the headphone output, can I hear all channels at the same time or only one channel at a time ?

    Looks like a great way to expand on my RME Fireface... and an excuse to buy more synths. 😎🥃

      Haha any excuse to buy more synths 😂. You might want to check out the RME M-1610 Pro however (if you're not planning to use the 12Mic's mic pres) - see our video from NAMM here;

      @@SynthaxAudioUK i need a setup for synths myself. 1610 and 12mic are priced similar, wouldnt it be better to get 12 instead, for reasons you have 12 line inputs plus the 12 mic preamps as extra

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому

      @@zanem9022 Hi, sure if you don’t need any outputs then the 12Mic might be better suited to your setup. Like you say, you would then have the option of recording synths or mics, as well as instruments on the first 4 inputs (switchable Hi-Z inputs).
      That being said, if you’re primarily recording synths we’d still usually recommend the M1610 Pro, since that gives you 16 inputs (plus the 10 x outputs) over the 12Mic’s 12 inputs.
      One final thing to note with the 12Mic, since its a preamp you’d also want to be careful not to switch on phantom power (when recording with your synths), since that could potentially damage your synth’s output. Using a DI box should solve this.

      @@SynthaxAudioUK ill be primarily plan to record synths. Definitely have the di's ready to go. I plan to monitor thru another interface that accepts adat, possibly a cranborne r8.. In what situation the outputs (10x) of 1610 is preferrable? How is that implemented, as im still learning the gear

      @@zanem9022 Hi again, the outputs can be used for anything you need really - connecting additional pairs of studio monitors or speakers; sending audio to FX units or other hardware; or for working with a mixing console.
      You just need to connect the ADAT inputs and outputs of the M1610 Pro to your audio interface’s ADAT I/O (using optical TOSLINK cables). Once you’ve done that, all of the analogue inputs and outputs on the M1610 will be available as I/O. You can then send audio in both directions - e.g. into your DAW for recording, or out of your DAW for monitoring or processing.
      For example, do any of your synths have an audio input? If so, you might want to use its filters or FX section, i.e. by sending audio out of your DAW into the synth, then recording this processed signal back into your DAW. Or you might have a hardware FX box that you want to run your sounds through - such as a reverb or compressor - then record that back into your project.
      Hopefully that all makes sense. You can read our article on expanding your I/O here, where we go into more detail;

    Hello! thank you so much for all of your videos.
    I have a FOH setup with Allen&Heath C1500 and a Macmini. I would like to be able to playback audio from the Mac (via MADI, preferably) in QLab, and multitrack record/playback (Virtual Soundcheck) from a DAW. Extra input channels are also welcome. Would the 12Mic (+DigiFace AVB to interface 12Mic and the Mac) be able to do that?

    Can you connect rme 12mic to merging hapi mkii interface adat port, but it only has one port, which can only send 8 channels right?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому +2

      That's correct, because you've only got one ADAT In on the Merging, you can only receive eight channels.
      Using the RME Web Remote you can of course choose which of the channels you'd like to send to the interface.
      Hope this helps!

      How can You compare

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому

      Hi there!
      This totally depends on the needs of your setup because both offer a slightly different feature-set. The Micstacy is an incredible preamp and is still used throughout the world on classical recordings and other sessions that require a great deal of detail. The 12Mic features a newer circuit design and more in terms of both analogue and digital connectivity, so it's a great preamp for recording more than eight channels and for getting connected to a wider ranger of gear.
      Hope this helps!

    you guys have some Dante and AVB options. Can your RME products communicated with dante on one unit and AVB on the other?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому

      Hi there!
      Do you mean converting Dante to AVB from device to another, or do you mean having two seperate devices operating AVB and Dante seperately (for instance, connecting a Digiface AVB and Digiface Dante to a computer together)?

    • @ajschot
      @ajschot 2 роки тому

      I think the question is if you van daisy chain them via madi and the use it to feed dante as well as avb, and i giess that is possible but only max of 64channels ( because of madi)

    browser based remote control sounds interesting,
    I wonder what are the pros and cons compared to let's say TotalMix Remote app?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  4 роки тому +1

      Hi thanks, I suppose the main benefit of browser-based control is that you should be able to use it with any operating system (and not run into problems when a new OS update comes out...).
      Many users still prefer a dedicated app however, and both have their pros and their cons. I guess we'll have to see what the future brings with RME!

    Can I connect this to my RME ADI-2 FS R BE PRO?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому

      Yes, you can connect it to the RME ADI-2 Pro, but you would only be able to make use of 8 of the 12 channels. As well as this, whilst the ADI-2 Pro has the capability to act as a class-compliant interface, you miss out on a lot of the benefits of RME interfaces, like low-latency monitoring and the routing benefits of TotalMix!
      Hope this helps!

    Which RME PCIe cards are compatible?
    Confused with MADI, AIO, AES and all these acronyms.
    Will any RME card with adat be able to connect to this?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому +1

      RME do have quite a wide range of PCIe cards for sure! For the most part, these follow names that include the I/O - HDSPe MADI is a MADI card, HDSPe AES is an AES card etc.
      But to answer your question - yes, any of RME's cards with ADAT or MADI will be compatible with the 12Mic!

    • @Rodders5000
      @Rodders5000 2 роки тому

      @@SynthaxAudioUK Thanks for your reply. I'm looking at the HDSPe AIO Pro card (mainly because of its price) . Would that be a good fit or could you recommend one of the other cards? Is ADAT the preferred way to connect to the 12mic?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому

      There's no real "preferred way" as such to connect to the 12Mic, all the digital I/O options give a stable connection. This would depend entirely on your setup and your needs, in terms of the kind of things you'd be expecting from the PCIe card.
      What I will say though is that the AIO Pro is a very highly rated card, it even won Sound on Sound's Editor's Pick in their 2021 Gear of the Year awards. They're a bit hard to come by at the moment, especially here in the UK, but if you're from a different country it's best to speak to your local dealer and see what the stock situation is like!
      Hope this helps!

      @@SynthaxAudioUK Other than ADAT, how else could I connect that card to the 12mic?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому +1

      ADAT would be the only option, and actually this would only give you access to 8 channels on the 12Mic. So really, for expanding later down the line, as well as getting the most out of the 12Mic, going for the MADI or MADI FX cards would give you more scope!

    Does this rme12 mic need seperate interface. Is this meant for extending XLR connections only. Pl. clear.

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  3 роки тому

      Hi there!
      Yes, you need to connect the 12Mic to an interface. The 12Mic is a microphone preamp, meaning when connected to an interface (via ADAT or MADI in this case) you get 12 extra microphone inputs into your interface.
      Hope this helps!

    I'm assuming this works with a UFX 2 as well via ADAT???

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому

      Hi there! Yes this would work with a UFX II and would actually be a fantastic pairing.
      It's worth noting that if you want to record all 12 inputs, you wouldn't be able to record at any higher than 48kHz sample rate (as the UFX II only has two sets of ADAT I/O).
      Hope this helps!

    Wish there was a ufx avb with avb, dsp, spdif, 2x headphone, 2x analogue out, madi and durec, 2 mic inputs for talkback would be enough. That would be a sold for me! That is what i miss in rme line up, digiface has no dsp, and i don’t need a digiface with my mac to record. Also no way to do an stereo mix with eq, reverb and (not needed always but nice to have) compression for a 2-track recorder or codec for broadcasting. I like mixers but in most classical recording i can easily manage it without, but until now i work with Antelope Zen and Orion Studio’s (back then rme had only interfaces with 8mic pre’s and the antelope back then sounded better then the rme competition) and analogue multi’s which is a pain in the ass.
    I would love to go avb but i would like to keep my recording set small, 2 2HR flightcases is the max for 24 channels. And we are almost there.. 2x 12mic and then i need a avb switch (for now i could also daisy chain the two by madi but then i miss control of the gains because the network is failover) and a good device like the ufx+ but with AVB. This would be the ultimate recording set for me. Please rme make something like an UFX AVB or UFX+ AVB.
    I now can go the dante route but i need some more equipment and is a lot more expensive (2x 12mic-d, normal switch, Digiface Dante, UFX+) which will cost like €2500,- more and extra conversion dante to madi so extra cables.
    Btw i know i can go madi but i still need network to control the preamps and to setyp the routing, so… AVB could make life easy!
    Oh Motu make some interfaces that can do the ufx avb wish thing but… i can not use it with rme because they don’t use milan standard yet or something?!?
    Other option is with 2 cables, a switch, m-1610 and one cable direct into my mac (or digiface) or use 2 avb switches which makes it more complicated. But again i miss totalmix dsp then.
    Edit: maybe an ucx avb with dsp and usb3 or tb3 (or new usb4) would be perfect

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  2 роки тому

      Yeah I hear you, a UFX with AVB would be super useful. In terms of new products, I think things have probably been set back a bit right now unfortunately, what with all the on-going problems with manufacturing... Shortages of semi-conductors and other materials, not to mention the AKM fire.
      I'd recommend posting on the RME Forum, it's read by all of the developers. It's always good to let them know there's demand for a certain product :) .

    I have a question. If i plug in, say, 6 microphones to RME and connect it to my PC, will Windows recognize them as 6 separete devices on hardware level? Or Windows will see only Audio interface itself, but wont know what pluged in to it?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, the 12Mic is a microphone preamp (and not an audio interface), so you will still need a way to connect it to your PC. In terms of digital connectivity options, you have ADAT, MADI and AVB for hooking it up to the interface (RME Babyface Pro FS, Fireface UFX+, Digiface AVB etc).
      (In theory, AVB doesn't need an additional interface as it is operates via ethernet, however an AVB-capable network card is still required.)
      AFAIK, Windows will see an audio interface as a single device. Each channel can be accessed separately of course, either by choosing it as your input channel in the windows settings, or via a DAW / recording software.
