I was the soundman and road manager for this tour! CBGB's was a legendary punk club, but the stage was pretty small for all their gear. I played there myself with Christ on Parade in the 1980's.
@VINCENT SCHLEY don't understand what I wanted to say, for me neurosis really began with that album (souls at zero and enemy of the sun were almost first drafts, and for me their first interesting ones), never been interested with their early years.
I saw Neurosis in 2001. and within like 10 minutes of them playing, 7 people fainted. I guess they couldn't handle the volume and the intensity of the heat. It was hot as fuck in there
One of my First tatto was the neurosis tao deathandlife...saw them in 1996 and 1999 in Rome two Stones over my head ...the only band that play minor chords that move into depth of your soul. Love them also if Scott is a psychotic
I still think it's important to acknowledge the scenes/subcultures and the mindset/attitude of the music. I don't see Neurosis fitting into metal. Which doesn't mean it doesn't have anything to do with metal or doesn't have the place that it has in metal history. I think you are the one narrowing things down man, my point was that Neurosis was at that particular spot where a lot of things melted together with a typical ambiance/feeling. Good ol' UA-cam argument ;) Can't believe we're so bored.
I can see how from one perspective, Neurosis isn't really metal, but I can also see how to some that idea is absurd. The word has different identities for people, and I think one side will recognize Sabbath was considered a metal band AT THAT TIME, in reality so was Hendrix, and Purple, and Cream...and later Whitesnake. So it means different things to different people. When I say metal, I think At the Gates, Deicide, blah blah blah, not 5Dick Punch or whatever or even Def Leppard. Neurosis, that's a whole other fucking beast.
I know and love hhg/tragedy/union of uranus / nausea. I know sludge and I know crust. I still say neurosis is metal. I also (to the chagrin of many crust punks) say hhg is metal. Its also crust, its also punk. Genres aren't mutually exclusive.
Great upload dude! This is one of my fave sludge songs ever... You really can feel that early 90s sludge vibe going on... I hate it when people call it metal, it's alternative, it's noise, it's doom, it's post-hardcore, ... Anyway, huge, HUGE song
I also want to add that I am sure Neurosis would have existed without Judas Priest, Maiden, or Fate, so yes it is hard to say this is really "metal" in that sense as well.
Doom classically is, but sludge isn't. It's somewhere between hardcore/crust, noise/post-hardcore and doom, and to me it's a wholly different subculture, scene, attitude, etc. from metal. Folks just say it's metal because they think everything heavy is metal, but it's a completely different state of mind imo, and I think it's pretty obvious. I wish people would respect that more. Listen to His Hero Is Gone, which nobody would call metal, and maybe you'll get my point.
his hero is gone is a good idea! But that guy is also doing Nightfell now, which isn't as much of a leap as say someone that was doing hip hop before or country, so your point is a bit mute my friend. WHY THE FUCK AM I COMMENTING ON THESE OLD ASS COMMENTS!?!? I need a drink....
yeah but we're being civil which is weird. In terms of subcultures, they definitely didnt start as metal, but they're definitely part of metal in terms of community now.

People forget that at this point neurosis were already veterans.
Not at all, it was the begining !

Best metal band of all time.
my favorite Neurosis song
Yeah, I’ve seen them early on in the 90s and at this show. Deeply influential music for sure.
are you lost? yes
I waited for this since 18 years! A live version of that song in proper quality! Thank you very much for uploading this!

Through silver in blood tour if I'm not mistaken, first year I got a chance to see neurosis play. Great upload
