  • This super easy base granola recipe can be customized in so many different ways and is SO easy to make! If you can measure, pour, stir, and bake - you can make this. Homemade granola can be stored for up to a month in an airtight container at room temperature so it's a great make-ahead breakfast option, especially when you've got lots of kids like I do.
Here's the recipe to make a small, single batch (enough to fill a quart jar):
1/4 cup discard sourdough starter (active sourdough starter is ok too)
    1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
    1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
    2 tablespoons brown sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 cup rolled oats
    1/2 cup crisp rice cereal
    1/2 cup chopped, raw nuts
    2 T sunflower seeds/seeds of choice

That looks so good. When I was a kid, my mom would always add diced dried apricots and dates. We got the apricots from my grandparents farm. So good.

Looks delicious! What are cinnamon chips? Do you make them or should I raid my grocery store 😂

Can't wait to try this! The past couple years I've been experimenting with granola as a quick breakfast for my crew, and it's so fun to try different flavors-- chocolate peanut butter, apple spice, carrot cake, cranberry orange...the possibilities are endless! I never thought of using sourdough though!

One of my favorite things to make for my family! I like to add egg whites and a bit of AP flour and dried apricots!

This looks terrific. I make granola also and the binder is tahini and date paste and tastes yummy. However having a good quality tahini on hand doesn’t always happen. Can’t wait to make it this way. And yes, making it at home is so cost effective and sooooo much healthier. Thank you for a great recipe.

I have made a few batches of granola lately. I am not sure i love it, so i am so glad to find your recipe, extra points that i can use my discard in it as well😂. I like to add raisins to mine. I have been baking the raisins with the granola. Do you think it would be better to wait like you did for your cinnamon chips? What are cinnamon chips, btw?
