- This is a collection of photo's throughout my dad's life accompanied by his wonderful singing! My mum created it and it was played at the wake following the funeral for friends and family. I wanted to share it so I hope you all enjoy! Thanks to everyone for all their support over the last few months! x
"'Do you want to know who the greatest Verdi baritone this country has ever produced is? Peter Glossop."
Sir Thomas Allen
Said to me in a masterclass some years ago now. Listening to this video I can see why! And yes, your father should have been knighted just like the late and very great Philip Langridge and Anthony Rolfe Jonhson. However, the memories of their performances and the recordings we still treasure are a legacy most of us mortals can only dream of aspiring to.
One of the best baritones that ever lived!
Many thanks and "here here" to him never being recognised by his own country - shocking that such a great artist was never honoured by his country that he was proud to represent! Thankfully his fans somehow make up for that! Many thanks for your post and best wishes for your singing career!
One of England's greatest baritones. I saw him several times. wrote to him once and he sent me an autograph photo which I still have.
Splendida e gentile persona. Thanks e R.I.P.
Proud to have been his friend, sing with him, and seen him through some difficult times. A great, but humble man of great talent , heart, and generosity gifted with a wonderful voice.
I hope you’re doing well Heather x
@@AmberGlossop I am fine and still covid free. Voice now gone but memories good. Hope you and Rosie are well too. x
Met him in 1980 when he was performing in Belfast. Amazing voice and a really fun gentleman.
Fantastico! Fenomenale.
What a terrific voice - and a Yorkshireman as well. Champion!
There is a private recording of Peter Glossop and Anna Moffo in Rigoletto at Covent Garden which is one of the greatest performances by both artists I've ever heard.
Thanks so much...!!! Great artist...!!!
his acting and singing was spectacular in the production of Pagliacci with Vickers & Von Karajan!
What a Rigoletto your father was!
I hope he rests in peace. What a beautiful tribute.
Thank you so much Amber- what wonderful memories of your Dad who was such a fantastic artist.
What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful singer. Thank you so much.
What a voice, I would have loved to have met him when I was studying singing. Good British Verdi baritones are hard to come by these days and Glossop was the best, in my opinion.
This guy is my idol.
Just a thanks to everyone for their lovely messages x
If any one would like to see Peter Glossop's youngest daughter Rosie Glossop perform she is currently in a new musical called Best of Friends at The Landor Theatre in Clapham London running until the 10th May. Rosie has received great press reviews for her "powerhouse" vocals and it has been said that she steals the show! I believe Rosie's career in the path of her fathers footsteps is about to blossom! :)
I. P. Grandissimo P. Glossop
Dear Amber Glossop,I'm very Happy to meet You. In this Moment i'm seeing the DVD of Billy Budd's production with your father recorded for BBC TV. I love so much your father's voice
My gosh, he gives so much personality in his singing. Mr Glossop is the only singer who has given me goosebumps in the way that Pavarotti has. The ability to bring out emotions in me that I never knew I had.
He had such a glorious voice!
One of the few singers that makes me proud to be British!
Hi Amber,I'm so sorry about your lost, my father also past away, 2 months ago and I miss him so much. if this helps I just want to say that time will cures our hearts and he will be always with you, in you heart.
sometiems I feel like I have him as an angel taking care of us.
Extremely moving. What a wonderful, expressive voice. A fitting tribute to a great man.
I'm a big fan, specially of his Iago and his Duke of Nottinham.
Your father was indeed a great singer with a terrific stage presence. I saw him several times at the ROH and he was always wonderful. Thank you for posting this great memory of him.
What a warm, classic baritone sound! Wish we could have heard more of him in the States! Thanks you for sharing your memories with us!
Wonderful X
Bravissimo, vera voce di baritono.
What a tremendous loss, Amber. I'm so sorry. How devastating. He was a great man. His Di Provenza is the best there ever was.
A great artist and a lovely man....thanks Amber for sharing.
His voice was a fantastic instrument. At his best he was very exciting. Heard him later in Manchester in Elijah. Read his autobiography. Moving. RIP
Amber :
You should be very proud about your father!
Even if his own country never gave him the honors he truly deserved, the opera world knows very well where is place was in the history of true baritone voices : Right in the very first line ! Next to Bruson, Merrill, Bastianini, Warren, Nucci etc..
His renditions of Rigoletto and Germont were outstanding.
We miss him very much. May he rest in peace !
A big hug for you from Canada !
Thank you for your kind words - I too am sorry for your loss - stay strong x
Thanks Val - I am indeed so very proud of him and missing him so much of course x
Huh? Glossop was the best Verdi baritone in the world for a while. I recognized that. Don't I count?
Certainly Herbert von Karajan recognized it. His Tonio with Vickers has never been matched. I listend to nearly a dozen Pagliacci's on You Tube the other night.
Milnes and Hampson in these big roles just didn't have the octane. Glossop's voice cut through and dominated on stage.
Hi Wolgang - thanks so much for your message - my mum will be so pleased that you got in touch! It is still very hard of course and I miss him every day. Photo's would be lovely! xx
Greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Amber, I already have done so and I'm delighted with it. Many thanks.
Bravo Maestro RIP
Please check out Peter Glossop's youngest daughter's show reel on youtube - search Rosie Glossop's Showreel - He was very proud of her voice and sadly missed out on her performances but he would be encouraging her now if he were here with us today! Rosie is now trying to find a good agent so if anyone reading has any contacts please get in touch and help Rosie to follow in her father's footsteps! Thanks ;-)
thanks - hope Katie is doing well x
Hi Amber, as a Sheffield lad like your wonderful Dad I wonder if he and Joyce performed at the Sheffield Lyceum in the 1950s? John.
I just loved to hear Peter Glossop sing. If I remember correctely, I once had a record of Peter Glossop and June Bronhill singing Merry England, I would love to get my hands on another copy.
Tommy I so strongly agree with you - I wonder if I could get some sort of honour for him even though he's no longer with us? If anyone knows please let me know...
You can purchase this on the amazon website

Fans of Famous British Baritone Peter Glossop:
I am planning on organising a memorial service to mark a year on from my dad's passing.
If anybody is reading this that knew my father or has any useful contacts in the opera world please do get in touch as I'd love to hear from you!
Many thanks
Amber Glossop
Hi Amber. Not sure how to get in touch privately.
Dear Amber
Please look at the Facebook page for Virginia Zeani facebook.com/pages/Virginia-Zeani/348708207188?ref=br_tf where there are two new photographs. One is of Zeani with your dear father as Germont Pere, in what looks like a rather unusual relationship with Violetta! Virginia is now 89 and still teaching in Florida and her former pupil Ailyn Perez is her acclaimed, worthy successor as Violetta.
All good wishes and happy memories of your marvellous father.
All
We are holding a memorial service on the 10th Ocober in London for my dad - please contact for me if you would like to attend
Kind regards
Amber
