I’m from that place. I look at my grandmas graduation pics central in Newark and everyone and everything is soo proper. It used to be a paradise that was a annex to NYC in the 1950-80s… that put out the most Jewish Doctors and medical professionals in the world. Now it’s a War-zone good luck to the ppl that live there… My family moved to cherry hill NJ when Newark started to get bad in the late 80s

The interesting thing is Newark has always been rough. But within the last 15 to 20 years it’s lost its vibrancy. I went home in 2010 for my 25th high school reunion and I hit Brick City on a Saturday night. Nothing seemed to be happening and all I could think back to the days when Zanzibar, Paradisio, Eleganza and the Peppermint Lounge were rockin. You could cruise from Orange to EO to Newark and the vibe was of the hook. At least from what I saw that no longer exist...

The shrinking middle class, exporting of blue collar jobs, cheap drugs, little opportunity, and people who don't own their homes (owners care more about up-keep) all play a part. It's unfortunately just a part of the lifespan of a city, some grow and gentrify/expand, and some die out.

here's the bottom line...you video mostly the bad side,sad..as far as people fighting in the streets..drugs and booze and maybe bad upbringing..who knows but we all make choices in life and have to live with those choices or make a point to change for the better ,too much bad in America anymore...needs to be more good....the only good about you showing the terrible hoods in America is that maybe, just maybe it will movtivate change for the better, one can only hope..in the meantime good luck and safe travels

Newark used to be a beautiful place. Full of talent, industry, and culture. That was when it was inhabited by Europeans. It looked a lot more like Europe. Now that the Europeans are gone it resembles the homelands of the people that inhabit it. The shame is that many of our once beautiful and thriving cities look like Newark and for the same exact reason.
