It used to be a paradise that was a annex to NYC in the 1950-80s… that put out the most Jewish Doctors and medical professionals in the world. Now it’s a War-zone good luck to the ppl that live there… My family moved to cherry hill NJ when Newark started to get bad in the late 80s
The interesting thing is Newark has always been rough. But within the last 15 to 20 years it’s lost its vibrancy. I went home in 2010 for my 25th high school reunion and I hit Brick City on a Saturday night. Nothing seemed to be happening and all I could think back to the days when Zanzibar, Paradisio, Eleganza and the Peppermint Lounge were rockin. You could cruise from Orange to EO to Newark and the vibe was of the hook. At least from what I saw that no longer exist...

The shrinking middle class, exporting of blue collar jobs, cheap drugs, little opportunity, and people who don't own their homes (owners care more about up-keep) all play a part. It's unfortunately just a part of the lifespan of a city, some grow and gentrify/expand, and some die out.
This is a sad place for real. I was stuck in traffic for 2 hours in one spot in Newark trying to escape NYC 😒 - it really sucked. Didnt see areas this bad tho. Now on the other hand hoboken where i stayed was awesome
As for Newark there's decent parts (forest hills, branch brook, the ironbound university heights parts of downtown it's just the bad and rundown areas are the majority sadly.
Yeah the 1967 race riots caused this & it's never been the same since, my parents moved into Hill Manor when there were still doorman & doctors & lawyers then came the race riots.

Georgia King Village apartments is the worst hood in Newark. 40% of Newark's murders happen there. It is literally a death wish to go inside either of them two white towers without knowing someone. Seriously. Google it if you want, its a shooting / murder there every other 2 weeks. No other place in Newark comes close, even the ones in video.They had 15 murders JUST in 2021. Think about that for a second... That's BAD bad bad

Newark used to be a beautiful place. Full of talent, industry, and culture. That was when it was inhabited by Europeans. It looked a lot more like Europe. Now that the Europeans are gone it resembles the homelands of the people that inhabit it. The shame is that many of our once beautiful and thriving cities look like Newark and for the same exact reason.
