I love both of them, but Joan is just not at her best here. I think this ends up actually comparing her singing to Aaron's and it just doesn't come out very well...

According to me, Baez is just meeting some difficulties with her voice at that time and she is fighting to persuade herself that she can do it still, and she can, she proves it every day actually. But at that time I guess she needed to prove herself she could make it, but she can't really, at least the way she was doing it some years before. So she finds herself in competition with Aaron Neville, and it doesn't sound great. But I must confess I rarely liked her way of singing Amazing Grace anyway, except maybe once in live in 1989.
Zero competition, zero vocal issues for Baez here. The voice is amazing as she expertly adapts her stylings to his. She softly shades her counterparts to his lead beautifully and who doesn't want to hear a couple show off high notes in an a Capella gospel duet. RINGS LIKE A BELL.

@@taddyd1 I am sorry if you felt hurt by what i wrote but she was meeting voice issues for some years at that time and we can hear it here. But anyway, I like this duet eventhough as I wroye before I never really appreciated the way she was singing this Spiritual.

Agree
I've been listening to Joan Baez forever, and she sounds just fine here, but this song belongs to Judy Collins anyway.
You mean Mahalia or Aretha
