How To Create A Timeline In Excel - The Excel Hub

- Creating a project timeline in Excel is beneficial compared to PowerPoint because it reduces manual effort and increases precision as you are able to place tasks exactly where you want to. Timelines are useful if you have a project and want to provide stakeholders with a big picture overview of future objectives or deadlines. Excel does not offer a built in timeline application so to overcome this, we will create the timeline by using a column chart. Firstly, we are going to set up our project table by adding tasks and dates. We will also assign +1 and -1 heights to each task which will determine whether the tasks will be above the horizontal date axis of the timeline or below it. We will use the CHAR and TEXT functions to arrange how we want the tasks and dates within our data labels to be arranged. Once this is complete, we will create our timeline chart.

Hey, thanks for this awesome video tutorial. I have a question - if the timeline is over a number of years, how can we make the months shorter (e.g. December to Dec) and also show which year it belongs to. Thanks
Instead of custom format "MMMM" create and use "MMM"
Finally!..An accent I can understand, thank you.
