    2 things I recommend that are game changers for overnight ice camping. (1) Interlocking gym floor mats to keep the floor dry and help with heat loss. (2) A heat powered stove fan for the heater to help circulate the heat. The shelter would have 15 to 20 degrees warmer with one of those

      @@Fishin4Adventure went down to -18 two of the nights. Single digits for the rest, strong winds to boot. Learned it's best to set camp up against shore to shield from wind. Brought an Eskimo 9416i for the overnight and a Otter Cabin flipover for day fishing. Way too much gear, not enough propane (or fresh water as it turned out). As a result the bait froze overnight when my ATV left me stranded two miles from the 9416i and I had to pull the Otter to camp by hand in the dark.
      If you are using a machine it's good to bring a lithium jump starter - unfortunately for me I left it at base when the ATV gave me the head ache.
      Looking forward to seeing your trip. Should be better weather than what I had.

    Let some like out of you tip ups befor you set the hook. The reason is many times they haven’t swallowed the bait enough. When you go to set the hook, pull your line between both hand’s fingers until you feel the weight of the fish. That snap the line between you fingers toward the sky to set the hook.

      @@Fishin4Adventure the gusts definitely tugged on the shack quite a bit. I had the three windward hubs staked down along with the skirt so she wasn’t going anywhere. With the buddy flex on high I was only able to hold it to 40°, but it’s the outbreak 650i so it’s a lot of room to heat. By noonish the next day when the wind settled and the sun came out I had it over 70°

    Question.. I have the exact same 949i used with the buddy heater as well. When I woke up in the morning I was so groggy and a splitting headache. Almost certain is was from carbon monoxide. Did you do anything special for extra ventilation at night while running the heater?

    • @Fishin4Adventure
      @Fishin4Adventure  Рік тому

      Hey there! Yes we experienced the same thing the first few times! We always carry a carbon monoxide detector just to make sure! We always sleep with some windows cracked open which helps, having a battery powered fan on the ceiling of the shack near the rip vents does two things, pushes warm air down but always pulls in fresh air! Seems to really help the headaches and gives us peace of mind!

    Great video and it looked like you had fun. Too bad the fish kept dropping the bait. Couple of suggestions for ice camping. Always have floor mats to help insulate the floor. A lot of heat is lost right on the ice and the floor mats help with insulating. Even a tarp helps, or both. I've seen people cut holes in the tarp for where they'll put their holes, and then after the tarp they lay down floor mats so that they can walk around in their slippers at night. Next, a fan definitely helps putting one up at top to help bring the heat down. Even a small one helps. Definitely use a 10 or 20 pound tank so you don't have to constantly change the 1 pounders all night. Make sure there's plenty of ventilation if you're cooking in the tent. Did you have a carbon monoxide detector? They're definitely worth having even though those heaters are supposed to have sensors on them. Looking forward to seeing another ice camping video next season. Take care!
