Brother this is awesome. I will be hiking the Long Trail this year but to do it in the winter? That’s a whole different manifestation of strength and tuning into the land. Respect.
Great vid. Deep snow, wow. Ccccold! Some good safety / risk lessons, with humility on ur part. And wise words throughout. Thanks for sharing. Ignore the negative comments by armchair hypocrites.
I almost fell off the couch when you signed in piss! I just thought, "What an awesome guy! He does not care about conventions and will walk his own trail from time to time." Great video, and I love your co-star, Summit. Reminded me of A hike I made in 1979 to the top of South Sister (10,000+ ft.) with my dog, Basquo, a Great Pyrenees. He beat me to the top of the mountain, and when I made it to the top, Basquo was panhandling from this other climber.
You are absolute inspiration Me and my wife my going to the white mountains this weekend. Every time we go back packing, I feel like a child at Christmas
tears within 2 minutes. idk why. I love hiking though... Vermont and new Hampshire really brought out the passion for me. thanks for the video. great work
Subscribed, and thanks for bringing Eli Pipkin to your video. My dog's too short for deep snow but she loves hiking - we both enjoyed watching you two!
Photography and Music is awesome plus your narration and quote took it to a next level. i have never seen Snow in real it was great experience watching it in ur video ..... I thank you from bottom of my heart.....
Very nice! I had just finished an excerpt from Walden this afternoon-where Thoreau explains the necessity to simplify our lives. Now this evening, I see this reflected through your hike and the timeless appeal of both. Awesome!
never thought I'd be so camp deprived I'd be watching a guy camping on TV. can't wait for the next go. I've camped in the snow and it was fun, also done some solo camping when I needed to make big decisions, and reset mind and body... get out to Cali and hit the Sierras, see ya on the trail.
Nice story. Winter camping is the best. The muffled sound of the forest covered in snow. The tracks of wildlife all around. One tip I've learned winter backpacking in Oregon-if it is early in the season, you can clear off the snow to bare ground and really increase your warmth.
Great vid my friend! Any adventure where you live to try a new adventure in the future is a successful trip! We all have a short term goal when we venture out into the wild such as getting from point A to point B but the long-term goal is making it out alive. Good call on turning back when you no longer wished to continue forward.
Fantastic on so many levels...if I may make a suggestion, ok thanks I will lol, big dog guys here and grab a thermo coat for him..Better to have and not need that to need and not have... He is a great dog also..TY
Really good video!I love the quotes from John Muir.I would love to see a Robert Frost poem or something from him-he was a Vermont native and this reminds me of him.Keep up the great work!
Some very cool quotes. Thanks for posting. I'm looking into winter Hammock Camping soon. Interested in bringing my Minature American Husky (Spitz). She loves the snow. Trying to find ideas to keep her comfortable during the night. Thanks for posting some good tips.
You remind me of professional surfer, Rob Machado. He looks at life differently and connects it with his passion to make sense of things, just as you did in this video. Great video, mate. Keep them coming.
Nice job. I'm impressed with you carrying in a real thermos, and a guitar! I used to hike with someone who carried in a full-size wok and a banjo. It's all about your priorities. Peace man.
A simple wool blanket fit for the dog works very well. You already had the foot wear which shows you care. My dog would lay in snow and make a wall around her. If it got to cold like -10 she would bark to be let in. I think she smells food and uses it as an excuse. You also made the right choice and seen you had got lost. You didn't panic and worked it out and learned a new skill.
It looks like you had a great time even though you didn't reach your destination. Also you have a very positive look on life. Great video and thanks for taking the time to add the nice shots of the trail and the guitar solo. Shane Aubuchon. Chelsea, maine
I like some of your camping tricks, will borrow those. Same thing happens on the FT if you hike out of season. Overgrown and easy to get lost. I look at both blazes on a tree and that usually gives two directions. Not always. That must have been a mind fk everything being white and looking for a white blaze. Give you credit for getting out there. Happy trails.
Great video! I'll be watching more for sure. REI's single person tents are great especially for the low cost (we have the passage 1 and passage 2). I know from experience that route finding in the winter can be quite tough. Good stuff, take care.
I really miss your vids. Old ones are worth watching again.

I like how your dog is your hiking companion and also like the John Muir quote. Thanks for the nice video.
I think the most beautiful thing about this video is the chap's relationship with his dog. It's wonderful to see!!
This is asmr. I love the video
Great vid. Deep snow, wow. Ccccold! Some good safety / risk lessons, with humility on ur part. And wise words throughout. Thanks for sharing. Ignore the negative comments by armchair hypocrites.
I like this guy, he's living the good life!
I could tell in the first minute I am going to like this guys humor! Subscribed

Freeze dried food wouldn't weigh as much for you up to carry
Nice video.
It doesn't get much better than this...
Absolutely true!
Another great film, thank you....

The long trail is definitely a beautiful challenge this time of year. Your video pulled me from my lazy winter hibernation. And I thank you for that.

Great stuff....nice to be out with the dog.
Very nice! I felt like I was tagging along. From my warm living room in southern Alabama, lol. Sub'ed.
Great words of encouragement at the closing. Bless you as you navigated the direction life leads you towards.

Yes, it is a vermont made product. Gotta support them. :)
Great video. I like the way you tell your story.
Dog carries his own baggage. Bravo

Wow! I admire your honesty and your will to choose safety over the idea of completion.
Awesome ! I had that same tent and used it for about three years. Loved it. Thanks for sharing man ! Peace
Yes I just bought my second REI Quarterdome, I also picked up a half dome which is the same design but a 2 person.
I did the New Zealand trip!! North and South Island !! But not Nepal!! I am impressed!!!
You remind me of professional surfer, Rob Machado. He looks at life differently and connects it with his passion to make sense of things, just as you did in this video. Great video, mate. Keep them coming.

So lovely to see you sharing your sleeping bag with your dog!
I like your style . . . squibblin yer name in the snow~!
I was really surprised that you didn't have some kind of coat for your dog. Was very happy to see that your dog got to share your sleeping bag.
Great video! loved the adventure.
Great video!! I like your song and the guitar...nice winter camp!!
Nice job. I'm impressed with you carrying in a real thermos, and a guitar! I used to hike with someone who carried in a full-size wok and a banjo. It's all about your priorities. Peace man.
Very cool man, had me laughing at the very beginning. And you said it perfectly at the end, in adventures like this it's never about a destination
Quentin McHugh Life is an adventure and its allways about the journey never the destination.

Any man or woman that take the pooch out hiking is worthy of a sub in my book..........Carry on
