World of Warships - Quick Cut: Tier VIII British Destroyer HMS Lightning

- Chat asked me to talk through my process - my approach, if you will - to zoning into a game in a destroyer, and the result was this round on Haven in Tier VIII British destroyer HMS Lightning. When a game starts and you're in a DD - particularly a high-tier one - you have to evaluate primarily your spawn point, the enemy team, the capabilities of your ship, and what your early game focus is going to be before you can start making decisions about initial deployment and position. I'm pretty happy with the result of this game.

In an effort to keep a better flow of content coming, I'm going to pretty up some of my more interesting Twitch games from a given week and share them on the channel. These are much faster to produce than my normal stuff, but are a little less polished.

DAMN! Well played, Sir.
This game alone could be part of your "How to Play" series, complete with commentary.
How have you only got 9k subscribers??? Your knowledge, mouthy and capable. Strange
Part of it is that I don't play YT's algorithm games. I don't go for clickbait titles, and I tend not to rage about everything WG does. They aren't the best company in the world, but they're far, FAR from the worst. I feel like they do plenty of stuff that's worthy of criticism, but I try not to go overboard when I do criticize.
I’ve just started to try my hand at being a destroyer and I’ve been finding it really difficult this has helped a lot 👍🏻
Great to hear!
Thank you for giving everyone the advice not to go straight into the cap as a DD. As someone who does this with my DD's, it makes my job much easier!
I mean, it's a judgement call, but it's pretty rare that "dive into the gap 60 seconds after the game launches" is a good play. Usually at the VERY start of a game you don't have enough info to safely dive a cap. Give it a few minutes and you probably have a pretty good idea of the opposition at whatever cap zone you've chosen instead of going in blind. Knowledge wins battles.
Lightning is awesome. Great game Raptor. 👍
Some very good points on how best to play any DD in the game to assure that you get into the mid and late game where your ship is the most effective. I need to watch this video again to observe how you are distributing your single launch torps to good effect. I'm currently in the Wakeful and I am wondering if the torpedo aiming aid is correctly set up for the speed of her torps. She's frustrating as a gunboat, using the smoke, because it seems as though her dispersion is blech. (Yeah, yeah. Tier 4) Thanks for the video and the thoughtful advice.
IMHO, the mid-tier British destroyers are painful. Acasta, Icarus, and Jervis are thoroughly average. They do nothing well. Lightning is the first ship of the line that really stands out. Her detection lets her get away with shenanigans that her predecessors could only dream of. Lightning's torpedo range is terrible, but workable if ships are pushing into you (as demonstrated here).
Good video. Would be interesting to see your take on the Haida.
One of the best cap-contesters in the game.
@@SeaRaptor Yeah. Potato Quality did one...curious to see how you would play it too 😄
nothing matters...watch the videos, upgrade the ship...start the game...here we go...
Torped.
Okay...that was a fluke....not even rushing the cap...Stealth! you got this...
and...spotted....and one shot by a cruiser... Yeah...this game can eat a dick.
incredible play
Sea Raptor, you like subs as much as I do 😂! Lightening is a great ship! Hydro is a great resource to have. Thanks for the video. o7 SR!
