- Recognition of First Nations Peoples' sovereignty means Australia will dissolve its “colonial, violent" institution, according to Senator Lidia Thorpe in her address to the Senate on the Voice to Parliament.
“Sovereignty has never been ceded but for the first time in this country’s history, people are starting to talk about sovereignty and what that actually means,” Ms Thorpe said.
“To recognize First People’s sovereignty in this country will dissolve this colonial violent institution that we’re all in right now.
“That’s why you wont acknowledge sovereignty in the racist Australian constitution.”

@@lukei6255 FYI, there have been phones developed in the UK (and presumably also Australia), and unlike the First Nations, Anglo Australians were engaged in international trade from the very beginning of modern Australia. So your "point" is nonsense. Any Western nation could have developed phones at some point if they hadn't been invented already, whereas the First Nations didn't even discover the wheel by themselves (let alone trade with other nations through seafaring).

I'd like to acknowledge the early pioneers who came to this country over two hundred years ago and developed an almost uninhabitable land by establishing farms, roads, schools, hospitals, towns and cities, railways, ports and harbours, universities, health clinics, telecommunications, factories and industries, warm (or cool) comfortable homes, shopping centres, a reliable abundant food supply, libraries, clean water, electricity and gas, airlines, the mining industry ... the list goes on. Most sensible words I’ve heard from you, Lydia. But you’ve missed the point. The Corporation that is pretending to be our Parliament has decided it’s time to take control of all the land in Australia, accessing the minerals without ‘pesky’ Allodial title which belongs to the sovereign Australians. This ‘little’ change to the constitution (illegal one) will remove the ability for tribal groups to protect their land… placing it in the hands of whoever is selected to become the ‘voice’ to Australia.

I don't agree with Thorpe on much apart from also opposing the Voice, but I do like her better when she is pointing out hypocrisy of all three of the main parties in the Senate than when she is doing stupid stunts. Lots of stuff I didn't like in her speech, but a better speech than most of the bland, meaningless tripe most politicians spew. I at least got the feeling she was sincere, deluded, but sincere.
