She was a fantastic trumpet player and wound up getting a music scholarship at University of Michigan. Once there, she felt totally overwhelmed by the caliber of musicians. She had a very difficult time gaining her confidence and like you, was second guessing herself as to why she was even there.
I think that the coaching you had in high school did not help you gain the self confidence you needed to be successful in college. You have the skills, but none of your high school coaches really gave you the credit for it and developed it. You had a few coaches in the traveling teams and off season teams you played on, but only getting that positive feedback a few months out of the whole year was not enough.
