sugar , sugar is one of my favoirte songs. I i am struggling with the C chored. I'm practicing. The strumming i still dont get it yet. I like how you explain it so simple. Is it up- down-rake when going down the second time?
Great lesson -- great song. Thanks mucho! I feel sorry for all my back-in-the-day hard rockers who can't admire and enjoy the many wonderful pop songs of the era, yes even bubble-gum gems like this one. So many great ones: "Dizzy," "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy," "1-2-3" (Ken Berry), "Rock Me Gently" (Andy Kim), on and on. Their rule of the disapprovers seems to be that soul groups and The Beatles (and maybe The Hollies) can get away with being so sweet--sweeter-sweetest, but the rest of this fabulous music is not worth listening to or playing and singing. Get over yourselves, my brother and sister rockers -- this is great stuff!
Yes, strumming the open chords is a common technique used when passing from one chord to another. Good observation! I cover that in some other UA-cam lessons and my beginner courses at www.ChordSavvy.com. Feel free to check those out and share with others who may have interest. Rock on! 🤘🏻
I just read this about this song. A lot happened musically in 1969. the Beatles release “Abbey Road”. Most Beatles fans list Abbey Road as their best or second best album. The Rolling Stones released “Let It Bleed”. Then Led Zeppelin release their first two albums which were massively successful all over the world. Elvis released probably his best album “From Elvis in Memphis” Again in 1969 Diana Ross reliasses an International best seller called “Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5”. David Bowie released his first album and the single “Space Oddity”. My entire neighborhood bought this album. David Bowie was born to be a rockstar. Needless to say 1969 was a great year for music. On top of all that going on Stevie Wonder released “My Cherie Amour” album. Strangely, all of those albums were out sold by this cute little teeny-bopper love song released on a 45 (small record) by a band that I don’t really exist. They were Studio musician That same song for a cartoon but struck gold with this simple little under 3 minute song.
These songs seem easy - but only until you've played for years - strumming is the hardest when all is said and done. After 20 years, mimicking strumming is the final challenge for most tunes - because strumming is drumming
Great lesson, thank you.
thanks for sharing! ultimate-guitar had to take down the chords for this song, so this came in very handy
Easy to understand and follow. Thank you for this Tutorial!

Excellent! Slowing this down I think you do an up strum on open strings before switching to a new chord. Is that an accurate observation?

It doesnt seem as if the strum chart agrees with what is played.
