In my opinion, Scandinavian opening is good for black(I always play this opening with black pieces). Just retreat queen back to d8 if white move Nc3,then follow by Bf5 no matter how White's play. Because white would normally castle king in the next 2~3 moves, you can catch up developments by not to castle king. Move the remaining knights and bishop out to attack White's castle king. Then Black's win rate is higher than white. If white move Nf3 in 2nd move(to seek for even faster short castle king), then I can beat the white in 10 moves, first Bg4, pining White's queen, then Be7 for white, Nf6 for black,o-o for white, e6 for black, Nc3 for white, at this point white think that his development is much better, but the next moves shock white and white is losing or the game will end with draw. Black moves Qh5, white move d4, black moves Bd6, game is almost over now because black is threaten either Qh2 mate by taking White's f3 knight. The game can continue in many ways but black emerged with 75% win rate. This is one of the famous way to beat early castle king.

For the english I recommend the Nf6, c5, d5 variant. I use this and it's pretty simple and equalizes relatively quickly. Do a lichess study/research maybe to find out how to play it. Example: c4, Nf6, Nc3, c5, Nf3, d5, cxd5, Nxd5 and you are fine basically. Works the same against g3, Bg2 lines
I thought the same thing before remember that lower players probably see it because it’s passive and generally speaking a “bad” move because you fully undevelop. Most people over a certain rating, 1400 or so, probably wouldn’t even consider it unless they wasted several minutes of thinking
Against the london, I've found great success with d4 nf6 bf4 c5. there are a couple lines you have to know involving a queen sacrifice but it's a vicious system based on a few key ideas: If pawn is taken, na6 and e6 to scoop it back up. It can't really be defended. If pawn is defended, Qb6: If c3 and Qb3, trade, take on d4, and occupy b4 as an outpost. If e3 and Na3/Nf3, this leads to the queen sac lines and a violent attack down the queenside. Or a forced draw. I've won most of my games in the queen sac lines because the attack is so strong. If e3 and b3, play it like a king's indian defense/reversed Catalan to take advantage of the weaknesses on the a1-h8 diagonal. If c3 and b3, take in the center, and e5 to give a nasty bishop check is a lurking idea. If white pushes pawn to d5, play d6 and e5, and e4 if they allow it. Obviously it's a bit more intricate than this (especially the queen sac variations) but that's the general idea. Of course, if you do this, you have to play nf6 vs d4 c4 lines as well, which isn't a problem for me but it might be an issue for some who already have established preferences.

I started playing chess three years ago and built up a repertoire of Queens Gambit / Catalan for white and Stafford Gambit / Benko Gambit for black. I've never played anything else, and I think out of the thousands of games I have on lichess I have maybe 10 games with 1.e4 as white. I've reached 1700 bullet, 1800 blitz and 2000 rapid with these openings, prep going for 20 moves in some lines. However, I kind of regret not learning more 1.e4 games as white. There are so many interesting gambits and sharp positions, much more so than with 1.d4 which ends up in a lot more positional games, which I'm not even very good at. I'm afraid to switch up my repertoire after years of playing completely different openings. I feel like the day has to come if I ever want to become a titled player, but it's so hard when I have no experience on any of those things.

The vienna gambit just cost me my queen! All black had to do was move their knight to the rim, then upon losing it, move their queens pawn up! Allowing the light squared bishop out and leaving your queen immobile, except for moving straight back to where you started! If you dont move it, all black has to do then is to push their G pawn up one square to completely remove your queen from the game! Thanks gotham!
I always thought the idea behind the name "fried liver attack" is that you must be so drunk to play this bold opening that the alcohol is literally frying your liver.
At 19:55 a good tip would be if white makes the *stupid* mistake of taking the bishop on e5 with the knight on f3 to attack your queen, Black should take their queen with the rook, sacrifice your queen, take their rook on e1 and it’s checkmate.
The sequence you showed in the second part seems unlikely. When you move your bishop out to C4, the opponent could respond with queen to b4, forking your knight and bishop. If you move your pawn up to d3 to protect the bishop, your opponent could move their queen to C5, again threatening your bishop and knight while protecting the c7 pawn (and their rook by proxy) from your knight. At that point, your plan goes poof because their queen would be between your knight and where you planned to put your queen and thereby able to gobble your queen up if you were silly enough to still try to follow through.
levy loses against players 1800-2000 FIDE. People talked how Hikaru cannot play classical but it's Levy who cannot play it. That's also why he teaches how silly gambits are so great when people don't have time to think in blitz and counter them without knowing theory
Hey Levy, i’d love to see a video on the french. It’s my favorite response to e4 and i love the positions i get when they play the advanced variation. Learning how i can improve on what’s already my favorite opening would be awesome.
Hi bro I can play openings very well but it becomes difficult during the middle game.....i see most of the traps and blunders played by the opponent and make a move against it. What happens most of the times is that i find the wrong way to prevent an attack and subsequently a series of bad decisions ends up me losing....what do I do
I read a chess book about beating stronger opponents and there it says that you should play a solid opening repertoire were you do not get a bad position out of the opening when your opponent plays all the best lines... The book is called: How to beat stronger Opponents by Edmar Mednjs and Rudolf Teschner, I highly recommend that book!
hi levy or anyone reading this the london counter levy recommended at 25:00 can easily be crushed with this move order after bishop pins knight h3 (instead of bishop e2) bxf3 Qxf3 e5 dxe5 fxe5 bxe5 Nxe5 Qf5+ if g6 (most common) then Qxe5 and u win THE ROOK!!!!
Ah the vienna. People play this against me a lot, never knew what to do. But managed to figure out my own way of dealing with it. I guess I need tonstudy this one more
Dude, Caro-Kann smashes. At my rating (700) many don’t know how to deal with d5 so sometimes I just take free pawns. If you study a little bit of the main line and a little bit of theory depending on the variation, you are assured to have a very compact and solid position within the first ten moves. FYI, at my rating many people play the Nf3 variation or the push variation. If Nf3 you just take the pawn and then challenge the knight with the light squared bishop with Bf5 (kinda in summary 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nf3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Bf5) If they push the pawn, you get your light squared bishop out and try to trade it as soon as possible (1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5) There are more intricacies but once you get the hang of it and see some videos of the Caro-Kann, you’ll end up with a solid position.
Levy ..... A question for you ..... If i start with the theory now and i already am a 1600 , can i get some title ? I know the tactics and rest of it but not that hardcore side lines , variations and all , kindly suggest a roadmap and answer my query also , thankyou .

If e3 and Na3/Nf3, this leads to the queen sac lines and a violent attack down the queenside. Or a forced draw. I've won most of my games in the queen sac lines because the attack is so strong.

I prefer the Tennyson Gambit against the Scandi. (1. e4 d5 2. Nf3 dxe4 3. Ng5)
Levy you are damn right I like to listen to you. 20 minutes or a binge of 4 hours, more than happy with either
Levy is now catering even more towards begginners. GIve me an advanced bootcamp for 1800-2000 FIDE. I will not rest
Also Sicillian>Caro
The Caro-Kann is incredibly simple though.
levy loses against players 1800-2000 FIDE. People talked how Hikaru cannot play classical but it's Levy who cannot play it. That's also why he teaches how silly gambits are so great when people don't have time to think in blitz and counter them without knowing theory
@@onniruusunen9444 it’s called knowing your audience man. 99% of all players are below 1600, let alone the audience on UA-cam.
@@ethantrottier3330 He made an intermediate bootcamp, he can make an advanced one
I love playing the Dark Knight gambit vs fried liver. Thanks Levy for another great video
Hey Levy, i’d love to see a video on the french. It’s my favorite response to e4 and i love the positions i get when they play the advanced variation. Learning how i can improve on what’s already my favorite opening would be awesome.
he already made one
@@geoffreygeorge999 that was a few years ago and he didn’t go as in depth as he does now in his openings videos
Really loved the format ! Very instructive and motivates to dig deeper
Spoiler Alert: 9 of them are the Tennison Gambit
Hi bro
I can play openings very well but it becomes difficult during the middle game.....i see most of the traps and blunders played by the opponent and make a move against it. What happens most of the times is that i find the wrong way to prevent an attack and subsequently a series of bad decisions ends up me losing....what do I do
Levy recommending Nc6 against the London is crazy
You can make an series in which you show best moves against any one opening one episode one type of opening with 2-3 examples match.
This book doesn't exist.
@@peterintoronto6472 sry, translated vom German to English....

What if king goes f6 in scandi trap
Hey Levy, what was that name of caro kann book that got you back into chess?
Love the shift towards more educational stuff, but PLEASSSSSEEE fix the reverb!
I actually use this opening called Van't Krujts, people usually hang their dark bishop in bullet & blitz, great to see
isnt that just subobitimal. theres no good reason to play e3
This is one of your best videos of all time
As a Caro player myself, i have been victim of the advanced Taj variation. It is nasty stuff
This is like a sample version of the e4 course and the Caro course hahaha nice
hi levy or anyone reading this
the london counter levy recommended at 25:00 can easily be crushed with this move order after bishop pins knight
h3 (instead of bishop e2) bxf3 Qxf3 e5 dxe5 fxe5 bxe5 Nxe5 Qf5+
if g6 (most common) then Qxe5 and u win THE ROOK!!!!
Ah the vienna. People play this against me a lot, never knew what to do. But managed to figure out my own way of dealing with it. I guess I need tonstudy this one more
LEVY I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL THANK YOU
I really appreciate that you go back to more educational videos, happy to see more of that:) thanks!
Me : plays e4..... forgot what to do next
Levy i can’t tell you how much your videos help my chess you’ve helped me study and get so much better so I just have to say thank you
Oh man back to it with the educational videos! Ya love to see it
Dude, Caro-Kann smashes.
If Nf3 you just take the pawn and then challenge the knight with the light squared bishop with Bf5 (kinda in summary 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nf3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Bf5)
If they push the pawn, you get your light squared bishop out and try to trade it as soon as possible (1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5)
There are more intricacies but once you get the hang of it and see some videos of the Caro-Kann, you’ll end up with a solid position.
13:55 caro cann for black
I feel like nimzowitsch defense(probably misspelled that) for black is really underrated.
At exactly 6:00, what if black played King F6?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS EDUCATIONAL CONTENT
You should link the Vienna gambit climb to this
bro you earned a subscriber and a like for this video cuz this helped me so much from 800 to 1300 in 1 1/2 month.
@GothamChess thank you, my elo just skyrocketed from 490 to 560 in 1 day
Levy ..... A question for you ..... If i start with the theory now and i already am a 1600 , can i get some title ? I know the tactics and rest of it but not that hardcore side lines , variations and all , kindly suggest a roadmap and answer my query also , thankyou .
Well, you can try for NM/FM, if you're lucky and talented enough, then IM would be a great title for you. I doubt that anyone can become GM after they cross teenage. Perhaps, all the best.
1600 uscf, cc, lichess, what? And depends how old you are
I was just looking for new openings, especially for white...Thanks a lot for your efforts! Disabling adblock only for you xd
Edit: I watched 2 ads but then some genius decided it would be a good idea to show a 30 min ad on YT [yes, ad was longer than the video itself] had to skip that sorry, I will be looking to use Scandi opening for white tho thanks!
Thanks I'll once again remember the first 4 moves then play like a 800 for the rest of the game
This is over my head. I’ll check back in a few months. Love the channel though.
What’s your elo?
Awesome video Levy!
He’s said “noob who plays the scandi” and I immediately was immediately embarrassed because I never knew the name of it but that’s what I always do 😭😭😂
