love this! I was waiting for her to have you ride it without stirrups, see what happened with the balance thing. Watching this I heard my teacher's "let go of the thigh"...it took awhile to do it but it is so effective. Watching the classical greats it is evident, some a bit more floppy loose and some relaxed and quiet. I think riding without stirrups is a good way to learn. Thank you Matt for sharing this.
I started riding 30 years ago and I was taught by some of the best instructors in the country (UK) and they always said to squeeze with my knees so I'm not sure if this is an evolution of riding and it's something that's changed but it's one that's quite hard to change.
I wish there was a place like this in my country. As a person with autism I find it challenging to "fit in" around neurotypical people. I also feel like I don't get the help that I need at my stable. It's really difficult to be around others who don't understand what autism means and how it "works".
Interesting demonstration Matt and congratulations to this foundation wich helps all riders (experienced or not) and people with mental disability. The simulator is a great tool for those who do not own a horse. Thanks for sharing, Matt and Jesse! 👏💙
1 knee replacement and 1 to go. I would love to use this to regain lost strength before actually riding. I’m 65 and I feel like this would be best for me.♥️
When I learned to ride, I was instructed that the basic riding position is simply your standing position, legs bent, with your weight carried in the saddle. It's not a sitting in a chair position, it's actually standing but with the horse supporting your weight through your upper thighs and buttocks. Your center of gravity is over your feet as it would be when you stand. This is the balanced seat.
I'm actually not a dressage rider but I'd still love this to see how out of whack my position may be. But that's still a great tip to think about trying to not squeeze but rekax the upper leg and relax in general
HA, this reminds me of the machines in front of the grocery stores. Waaaay back a hundred years or so. Buck and a half you could simulate 1 gait all day
I would think the canter would feel odd, being so centre forward. I have a favoured lead of canter and so do my horses but removing favouritism, a canter to the left is different to one on the right lead anyway. I assume the canter wouldn't have a lead on this machine? Or is that something I missed?
brilliant so far - just to come back on relaxation techniques you can do that personally by doing yoga or similar exercises - outside the horse riding scenario and it helped me a lot personally - be careful not to over think it - 🥰🥰🥰
I haven’t been able to ride at all since 2019 and would like this to be able to get back confidence in my ability, and even improve, before riding again. Thank you so much for helping people with mental and physicals issues. Horses are the best for this! I just wished more institutions would understand this and set up programs. There is nothing like horse healing for mind, body and soul improvements. I believe that horses are empaths, they know when your broken, they know when your frightened, happy and relaxed, they just know how to work with you and give you what you need. The only way this can backfire is if the horse is not properly trained and you put a new rider on them that is also frightened of them and they will take advantage of this! It's this that puts people off of horses, they just get a bad stable that is more for the money than the safety. I've had this happen to me and when the horse sees I won't put up with it's nonsense, it settles right down and behaves.
