Chevrolet basically took the Tahoe PPV & made it nice. The brakes the Tahoe RST performance comes with have 16 inch rotors & the calipers are 6 piston brembos. If you manage to find a 2021+ Tahoe PPV in the junkyard make sure to get the brakes, they will fit on any 1999 & up GM full size model so long as you run 20in wheels, the PPV calipers are actually better because they’re exactly the same as the flashy RST Performance ones but they removed the bulky look of them so they can fit a steel wheel without rubbing while still retaining 6 pistons & 16in rotors.

I bought an '09 Tahoe PPV this year for $5K, I've got cop suspension, cop brakes, cop cooling system, and I don't have any speed limiters on the engine. Who has $80K for this?
Doug, you missed the quirkiest part of the interior. This Tahoe had the optional sliding front console with storage tray. The control was on the ceiling next to the 3rd row seat buttons.
They brag this is the performance model, yet they use such a big engine with such little power output. They could’ve easily given this 500 hp with a 6.2L. And especially for 80K, mercedes AMG models have more power.
American brands have been doing the "big engine, little power" thing since the 70's. They did it in the 70's because of fuel economy and emissions laws caused by the oil crises, but there's no reason to continue that trend in 2024.
@@stretchco3113 I'm not so sure this is the reason, because they're still not as reliable as Japanese V8 engines that make more power. But they're generally more fuel efficient than those Japanese V8s.
Own a 2015 Escalade AWD/4WD and have driven many a Police Package Tahoe, and I think there is a BIG difference in the ride quality. If that is the true Police Package suspension, it is like riding somewhere between the 1500 and 2500 truck. Just my 2 cents, you may need change.
Toes the line? They jump straight into the deep-end. There are only a select few vehicles that prop up the entire GM brand to make people think they haven't bought a POS, which is assisted by the fact that most people haven't been in a nice car. If it wasn't for things like the CTS-V and the Corvette, people would probably not even think of GM as anything more than the POS brand it actually is. Own a Lexus for 200-300k miles with barely anything ever going wrong, and an interior that makes GM execs cry.
PS. Tire and wheel dimensions are CLEARLY (as you pointed out) right out of the Police Pack. Which looks and drives decidedly ON road, not OFF road. Fine, but a little odd for an SUV.
5:49 the reverse lights become even more annoying when a work truck has a backup alarm installed. They’re typically wired to the reverse lights. I ran a 24 Silverado work truck for a while and it pissed me off every time I would unlock it at 5am and the backup alarm would turn on and wake up the entire house. Just a terrible design.
I dont get all the hate for this thing. If you want performance and features like this has from Mercedes or BMW its over 100k easily! PLUS you get physical buttons for almost everything and don't have to deal with a massive Ipad sized screen to do everything, AND you get a massive NA v8. This thing is awesome!!
I cross-shopped and test drove the 6.2L Tahoe, BMW X7, and Audi Q7. I also checked out the Lexus GX550, but didn't drive it. Once you really compare this to vehicles with somewhat equivalent size and power, the Tahoe 6.2L RST starts looking like a lot of vehicle for the money. Most of the salty comments here are probably people driving Nissan Rouges or Honda CRVs who'd never shop this category of vehicle anyways and have no clue.
The roof rack and tires are really the only way to tell, all RSTs have have black badges and you can option the breaks separate from the performance package
Doug is undoubtedly a car reviewing phenomenon, but is anyone else finding these "new car" reviews boring? I make it like half way thru & lose all interest. Not his fault, always loved him. Maybe it's the cars themselves? I guess there are truly only so many quirky 80's/90's/00's to be reviewed & at some point the content will run out. I guess we've just sadly got to face that cars aren't fun anymore. Beyond bigger screens & more HP, what else is left to innovate?
I'm here for it. People don't talk about how chevy puts power down in it's SUVs a lot. I don't know if any of their suvs from the traverse up are oover 6.3sec 0-60
GM should also be ashamed of the “AFM” (otherwise known as cylinder deactivation) on the 6.2L engine that propels this vehicle. AFM is like a grenade and will cause the engine to self destruct long before it reaches 100K miles.
No you could show it better how hilarious it is, so driver accelerate fast then its around 1.5-2sec pause search desperately this small button to change gear
I worked at a Chevy dealership. At least one brand new 6.2 Silverado in with a bad engine every week. Sometimes the mechanics were all busy with 6.2 rebuilds. That engine is crap.
Full-size SUVs like the Tahoe are devisive, you either hate them or love them. But for those of us that love them, the 6.2L Tahoe RST is a sweet ride. I can't explain to those that don't feel the same other than taking inspiration from Jeep fans who say "it's a jeep thing" - either you 'get it' and love them, or you don't and wonder why anyone else would. Well, "It's a Tahoe thing", if you love them, you love them, especially the 6.2L 420hp/460ftlb version. One of my first cars was a 1978 Mercury Cougar XR7 that I bought from a military man, stationed on a European US military base near to my home. 5.7 liters. V8. Long and low, two doors. From that same military base, my older brother bought an even more impressive 8,2 liter 1973 Cadillac Eldorado. Again: two doors, pimp-light-blue with a white vinyl roof. I get the 'Nothing beats cubic inches'-thing. But in this day and age... My most recent car was a 2,7 liter twin turbo Audi RS4 from 2001. I sold it 10 years ago after a long time of ownership. When I sold it in 2015, it still was an impressively fast vehicle. But nowadays, many sub-40k dollars cars can outperform it. Times change... But when I see Doug, tall as he is, being dwarfed by a car that you guys call a 'truck', with a 6,2 liter engine, I think you might be on the wrong path... But then I remember the experience of natural aspirated big engines... Nostalgia versus what we call 'common sense'...

I've been a technician for GM for a few years now in two different regions. You are grossly misinformed or exaggerating any fuel pump or fuel pump control module issues
As someone who drives a Camaro LT1 6th gen and a Tesla and has driven other EVs, elevtric cars most definitely have more torque, response, etc. Even a car like a Chevy Bolt has tons of low end torque. Granted its all about the tuning. For examples Teslas are instant with zero delay. If anything they are too jerky to drive smoothly sometimes

@@damilolaakanni Perhaps longevity of the drivetrain? More power = more stress = more likely to break internal components
@@stretchco3113 I'm not so sure this is the reason, because they're still not as reliable as Japanese V8 engines that make more power. But they're generally more fuel efficient than those Japanese V8s.
Mercedes is more expensive to maintain, full stop. The Tahoe is probably a lot better for towing than whatever Mercedes has I'd imagine
@@TheIncredibleJumpman i would bet on the Mercedes to last longer 😅
Own a 2015 Escalade AWD/4WD and have driven many a Police Package Tahoe, and I think there is a BIG difference in the ride quality. If that is the true Police Package suspension, it is like riding somewhere between the 1500 and 2500 truck. Just my 2 cents, you may need change.
Nobody toes the line of mediocrity quite like GM
They go from dull to ZR1 with like nothing in between
American car manufacturers in general.
Soccer moms will snap them up
Sums up American cars.
I’m totally disappointed by the fact that you didn’t mention the 3rd row seats also have screens which is a first l must say😮
The amount of these I''ve seen on the road and had no idea what it was is insane. Glad Doug made a video on it now.
These prices are obscene.
Agreed. I bought a 403 hp '07 Escalade last year for $7,000. People paying $80k for this thing is just absurd.
Stop being lazy Doug in doing these reviews in your garage. The lighting sucks as always. Do the reviews outside in natural lighting.
Where's your review?

It is strange how cheap everything in the interior looks for $80k.
i know the previous generation was way better
Yeah , it looks kind of cheap in the coloring isn't all that great
I’m wondering if Doug does this to troll ppl. Whatever the case, throughly enjoyed it as usual.
10:03 my 1987 SAAB had a light inside the center armrest. I can’t understand why this isn’t standard on all cars.

"buy my car, there is a light in the armrest" no wonder they are out of business.
GM should also be ashamed of the “AFM” (otherwise known as cylinder deactivation) on the 6.2L engine that propels this vehicle. AFM is like a grenade and will cause the engine to self destruct long before it reaches 100K miles.

I have a 6.2L RST in the same Radiant Red color as the one Doug is reviewing, and I know what else I could've bought for the money, but 6.2L V8 go brrrr and I smile everytime I drive it.
80k for plastic junk is sad.

Doug's the kinda guy who wears a t shirt under his t shirt.
The SUV obsession has become so bad that people are now paying huge money for a giant SUV cosplaying as a sports car except it can’t do anything remotely as good as even the cheapest sports car.
To me, this is definitely an amazing go to SUV. Whether it’s the RST or not. Doug, make sure you review the refreshed Tahoe when it comes out!

If those are the brake bleeders at 3:05 couldn't some joker just walk up to the car open the valve with a small wrench and send you off to a car crash when you unknowingly pump out all the brake fluid while driving?
You could cut the break lines on any car way faster then unbolting some bleeders. A pair of 10$ snips will cut any brake lines
@@jjrbeaudoinjustin Ya but one result is wayyyy less malicious looking than the other, bleeders just need to be cracked open a bit
The tail (reverse lights) staying on is one of my personal favorites staying on actually. It is something I actually miss if I step outside of GM to another auto manufacturer. It's too bad this isn't a feature that could be turned off in the DIC for people who don't want it on. For myself however, whom lives in remote locations with ZERO light pollution, it's sure nice to illuminate around the vehicle. ESPECIALLY in grizzly country. Sure, not everybody does but I'm sure thankful for having my illumination from it.
