The manners and dress and demeanor of the guests - particularly Mr Forester and his partner - are stunning and indicative of how society has declined these days!
They both grew up in England, where we had the phrase : ' politeness is the mark of a gentleman' . Now ( August 2021 ), sadly , there are no gentlemen.
He’s a cheating dog.. get real. He’s a newlywed and he is showing interest in this contestant. Charming and gracious? Lol… more like a total nightmare.
Another wonderful and very entertaining episode. Thanks again, Gary! Groucho is at the top of his game, and the contestants all had a lot to offer. (I knew all the songs, too, which shows how creaky I am.)
Well . . only two songs, both of which I missed. I DO know 'Out of Nowhere', which is a great song, and which the lady thought the second song was, but wasn't.
“you weren’t marking time.. you were doing time!” Groucho was one quick witted genius! Hard to believe that he never had a formal education, growing up.
The secretary and the mountain man were a brilliant combination - he was getting hot and she was doing her best to get him hotter! THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION, 1957 - a terrific film based on a story by CS Forester - starring Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, and Frank Sinatra.
I had heard of CS Forester but always thought he was a writer of 19th century. It is fascinating to see him and to discover that he lived and died in America and that CS Forester was his pen name
I've read three of his "Horatio Hornblower" novels, and I enjoyed them immensely. I believe he wrote eleven of them altogether, and want to go on reading the others. The main problem that i have is dealing with all of that naval jargon--much of it from the 18th and 19th centuries.
I'm certainly a Groucho fan, but sometimes I just wish he would just shut up and let the contestant say what he was going to say instead of interrupting in all the time. The man with the huskies, for example was getting ready to say something that sounded very interesting about people who have frozen to death, but Groucho kept butting in till the moment was lost.
14:36 Groucho: Do you think she’s very cute, do you? Slim: I’m not going to last I’m afraid. I have no idea what he said, but it got quite a response! Listened to it I’ve and over, too.
the secretary for Eddie Fisher had to witness a sudden decline in Eddie Fishers popularity ...Elvis arrival would shake up all previous bobby soxer crowds...and there was coming the pop singers like Paul Anka and Neil Sedaka...Dion..etc...
Forester and his partner won $1000.00 in the first round. Groucho says if they miss the big money they are left with $500 for the night. Does that mean each to split $1000 or $500 between them?

That's why I watch these. Nice to remember how civilized America once was.
100%
That slim was a real cowboy type, charming, gracious, long slicked back hair and very cool with his rescue dogs in the mountains.
Yeah, and he had some great lines and moments too.

UA-cam is amazing! I've read C.S. Forrester's works since the 1970's. This is the first time I ever heard his voice.
It's a treat to see C.S. Forrester. I read the entire Hornblower series.
what an infernal piece of bad luck for ya.
My father introduced me to them, and I have read them many times
@@wakelamp Do you know the difference between a head and a halide?
One of the best novel series, marvelous that there is some footage of the author
CS forester also wrote The African Queen the movie of which starred Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn.
And, "The Good Shepherd" which was renamed "Greyhound" for the recent movie starring Tom Hanks.
If he had just written "The African Queen"....HE WOULD BE A LEGEND
This is the first time I've really laughed in ages.

Talented chap Mr Forester. Apart from the Hornblower series he also wrote some excellent noir fiction. 'Payment Deferred' being a fine example
I've never read C.S. Forrester.
Groucho is the best ad-lib comedian ever.
Damn is he great. This one had great lines both from Groucho and the contestants.
Thank you for this.
EXCELLENT ❤❤❤❤❤
“you weren’t marking time.. you were doing time!” Groucho was one quick witted genius! Hard to believe that he never had a formal education, growing up.
He went university of life natural experience
Groucho was a huge reader from an early age. He often said he wanted to be a writer.
18m35s George had a look on his face "how do you do the heimlich maneuver again"
18:36 why did Groucho make that sound ? It seemed involuntary, I noticed Federman was careful not to react to it.
A hiccup of some kind?
Jokingly gasping to the chance of them doubling their money.
Eileen Thomas also mentions she used to be a secretary for the ministry of information! i'll call her moneypenny from now on =^.~=
The secretary and the mountain man were a brilliant combination - he was getting hot and she was doing her best to get him hotter!

The British secretary was really stunning.
sometime between 0704 (#56-04) and this episode they switch to both using the wheel and the desk is changed to the lighted one
I've been mildly interested in the show's evolution too.
CS Forester was a great author, so many novels

He also wrote , 'The African Queen', and other excellent novels.
Groucho died within days of Elvis Presley and his death wasn’t too well publicized due to Elvis’ popularity and fame.
3 days apart.......August/77.....A bad week for music & comedy.
01:33. Creepy Easter Bunny. (IYKYK)

"I'm not going to last this out." I believe Is what he said
It's funny the people back in the day seen this coming now like today 😅
No Other Love Have I also goes by another title….Under the Southern Cross from Victory at Sea
The music category hardly ever worked out for the contestants
15.51 When what went up ?
We had a DeSoto 😀
18 32 What happened to Groucho there?
Some sort of hiccup I think?!
@@Rhonda9199 Thanks. Probably.
14.41 what is he saying? please help.
“I ain’t going to last this out, I’m afraid.”
Wonder why the contestants weren't seated comfortably like the host.
Groucho never looked comfortable on that armless, backless stool, although he must have been.
the secretary for Eddie Fisher had to witness a sudden decline in Eddie Fishers popularity ...Elvis arrival would shake up all previous bobby soxer crowds...and there was coming the pop singers like Paul Anka and Neil Sedaka...Dion..etc...
10.30 buy WHAT?

250 each
CS Forrester needs a monocle
18:35 what the fuck was that?
I think Groucho was trying to make a joke out of exaggeratedly gasping for air because his explanation of the rules was long winded.
U tube is good
She not Ginger Rogers
Who said she was?
Who?
What lousy wheel-spinning by the lady.
