  • Today, let's take a look at a classic! This favorite of english speaking orthodox is probably the best Victorian english translation there is.

    I don't own the newer ones, but one of my close friends just bought it at the recent St Herman's conference, and the Newest printings are excellent, very sturdy and built to last. My Jville prayer book is years old and have yet to have bind issues (thank God!). But everyone else I see has these binding issues.
    Love your channel BTW found it accidentally while trying to get audio recordings of the Trisagion in Slavonic.

    I just recieved mine today, i skimmed over it and was surprised not to see occasional prayers. I usually use the STM press one for most my prayers and little red for the occasional prayers. Excited to use this one

      If I knew slavonic, I would. I have had my hands on a copy, and the difference is night and day. From the print, to the paper, construction, and even color, the slavonic is a masterpiece.

    super interesting, I still want to convert to Orthodoxy, but there isn't even a small chapel within a 200 km radius of where I live and prayer books practically don't exist (there is only one from the Metropolitan Church in the capital of São Paulo, but it's tiny and small the book) so I'm forced to import the book, something that is absurdly expensive here

    I cannot figure out how to use the Jordanville with my psalter to read the hours or vespers/compline pls help
    My copy was given to me by a (sadly) former orthodox friend who is now studying Buddhism again.

    • @OrthodoxReview
      @OrthodoxReview  3 роки тому +4

      Oof, lord have mercy.
      The hours are not in the Jordanville, but you can read the appointed psalms on there own.

    Which prayer book is the most complete? Like with Odes and Canons and Akathists etc.? I currently use the Antiochian pocket prayer book.

      Considering the high volume of prayer books that are available, a lot of them are very similar in scope, and most are very "complete." You have a lot of options. He has a video giving an overview of prayer books and which one might be right to you. I would also recommend checking the list that's on this page: orthodoxwiki.org/Prayer_book

    Thank you for this. I am not (yet) Orthodox, but am very interested. My close friend is about to be chrismated, and when I recently spoke to him about my rededicating myself to Christ and how I had been praying fervently to discern where to turn, and what was the Truth, he explained very briefly the Orthodox cosmology and conception of God. To say I was "blown away" is far too mundane, and quite frankly underselling it. Something clicked within my soul and in my mind that felt like coming home.
    He and I were both raised in evangelical protestant denominations, so the learning process has been intensive but immensely enlightening and uplifting, just speaking for myself- I'm only a week into reading and praying, while he's a couple years into the process and has been a catechumen for right at a year, iirc.
    Anyway, all that to say this: your reviews are extremely helpful and well done. I wanted to order a prayer book and decided on this one, and wanted to see what exactly I was getting.
    Thanks again, God bless.

      @@davidGPS95 hi David, I'm also a Catholic but, God willing, will hopefully soon be Orthodox. I know for a fact that a lot of Byzantine Catholics use this book and other Orthodox Prayer Books for personal use. I use the New Rome Press prayer book, but am hoping to get this one. Have a good day and I hope that an English speaking Orthodox Church will find its way to your area!
