I been trying to get in a company for a while I’m interested in learning and working full time I’m a very responsible guy but they are looking for people with experience hire also people with no experience and you’ll grow bigger as a company I understand is a risk hiring with no experience but there’s people like me who actually learn fast and do a great job without crying.
The problem is the work environment. Those older operators don't want to teach and stuck in their ways. I understand earning your stripes. I get it all. But why do y'all insist on making it hard to get in?
As someone who is young with a CDL, Ive applied to about a hundred construction companys for truck positions. No one gets back or are willing to train.
Honestly the big thing keeping me out of it is how common 12, 14, 16 hour days are, as well as 6 and sometimes 7 day work weeks, sure i love using the equipment, but i also enjoy my life off the job site
Yep, the pay doesn't begin to incentivize or compensate for the years off their lives ... Not to mention, no one cares about blue collar work. It's all DP on the only fans and scamming so we can pretend we own a jet vibes right now out there ...
I have +15 resumes and applications out and no calls 😭 Id be happy to start with a shovel! My fingers are cross, I just got certified to run wheel loaders , excavators and rock trucks last month! Just trying to get my foot in the door, but no calls yet...
Thats crazy i have applied at 8 excavating company’s and I have no call backs all these old head say no one wants to work but when someone applys they wont give you a chance
Part of the problem is many companies have been passing up guys in their mid 30s for the last 10 to 15 years. Another problem is people in this age group who could be in the workforce instead got worthless degrees or are making money via social media.
I have a little experience on and off for 20 years but the companies always want to put you on as a laborer with a shovel in your hand. They never want to put me in the operators seat. No seat time equals no experience 😊.
I’m in collage for this right now, already have some past experience operating to go along with it. I’m exciting to get a decent paying job. But like some other people have mentioned there are problems in this trade, a big one being that no body wants to teach the younger guys how to operate or how to be a good operator cuz they’re worried they will be replaced. Another issue is companies hiring for operators then you get stuck labourering instead. Another issue is companies want a labourer/operator/mechanic all in one but they only want to pay labourers wages. 3 trades equals 3 wages The guys I’ve met who are knowledgeable enough to do all 3 usually have been around long enough to run a job site. And expect anywhere from 40 to 60 dollars an hour to do so. And I don’t blame them. East coast of Canada wages for an operator start at 18 to 20 bucks an hour and that simple isn’t enough. McDonald’s pays 15 ffs. You’ll get closer to 30 if your with the city or another unionized company but most operators I see arnt making more then 25 bucks an hour
I'm going to work Monday for a company with next to zero experience and every ounce of passion to learn. I told them I wish I had more to offer. I'll try my best to succeed and i won't leave unless someone fires me.
@LauraTonohun I'm still employed and learning every single day. I operate loaders, rock trucks, excavators, dozers, fork lifts and skidsteers. I weld a lot (stick and mig) as my most recent position is a plant tech. We have 5 plants and numerous mobile units on site, the maintenance is mind numbing without the repairs.
Hmm.. lack of people, yet I am a people but no one will hire and train me. Yeah maybe they don’t have the time to train but the chance of retaining a trainee should be higher??
The problem with construction is pay, I’m 23 I’ve been in construction since I was 17 I love everything about it except pay, there needs to be more money for skilled labor, I will break my back for a company that doesn’t even pay enough for my survival day to day just because I love what I do.
Look at your local trade union for an apprenticeship and earn while you learn. Operating Engineers are heavy equipment operators that have guys that want to train you and work in every state. But all trade unions have apprenticeship programs and you can make 50k-100k as an apprentice
I'm 25 and I want to learn how to become a heavy machinery operator and honestly I'm really confused on where to start. Do you go to a school? Do I just apply with no experience? Which sounds like a roadblock. Do I apply for a union? So yeah I'm kind of lost where to begin looking.
I love the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator. If it weren't for my disability I would still be run an excavator or a wheel loader. Great work great work good pay, doing something that most people can't do and I did it for fun.
@@OhhhJP I broke my neck and back in four different places leaving me with some diminished motor skills. I was a paralyzed for a short time as my spinal cord was damaged. I lost the ability to turn my head and body far enough to safely operator any type of machines. I have tried to run an excavator here and there just to see if I could, but my leg strength isn't good enough to get up and down from any machines. I could never get a job in the construction industry, let-a-lone any kind of job because I am considered 100 percent disable. I hurts my pride and manhood more than anything to be disabled because I now have to depend on others to survive. That is not living that is just taking up space.
I’m in Illinois in the Chicago suburb area. I’m 26 (27 in September.) any advice on getting a job like this. I have experience with forklifts I. Warehouses. It seems so difficult to find these type of good paying jobs. Always wanted to operate bull dozers and stuff man
You can either apply to be an apprentice for your local or apply to different companies but don’t expect your first machine to be a dozer you’ll have to learn how to operate a shovel
Bro i just came across your videos, I am from Nigeria, I am a multiskill operator, meaning i can operate both dumper and excavator, i would love to travel and continue my skills outside my country if you can help
Pay is not competitive in this field. Higher wages would attract more workers. I find it horrible that we build the world that everybody lives in and we're among the lowest paid. Without us there is nothing.
Bro iam a professional heavy machinery operator I've just completed my diploma of heavy machinery operator from CTTI Islamabad one of the leading institute in the world how would I able to get an opportunity to work in your country
😂😂😂 people? I know of 10 people including myself who are operators out of work because everyone says they are hiring you fill in an application and nobody ever calls back! It’s the same for all of us. I don’t think it’s the people I think it’s because y’all want people with 5 or 10 years of experience and won’t give the newer generation a fighting chance
Take a look at your operators that have been there forever. Everyone thinks they’re irreplaceable. They are the problem with new guys. Insecurity, so they make it bad for everyone else until it’s unbearable.
The problem is the industry is racist. Unions in the tri state area won’t hire black people , nor will they allow them to go through the apprenticeship program
It’s not it’s a shitty industry and a lot of shitty people run it that’s why you can’t keep people and you don’t pay enough for them to live unless you’re working 6070 hours a week every single week all year long and then turn around to do it again next year and not spend time with your family or have any money to spend it all because it cost 11 too high so you wanna talk about keeping people maybe it’s time you take a look in the mirror
Another problem is a lot of guys don’t want to teach nobody
Right I agree
Gatekeepers
One of the problems is also the companies that think they can just use old beat equipment that’s unsafe and expect guys to want to work for them
Definitely seen that before! Had to de with it a few times.
