The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I wrote her a fan letter before she died and she sent me a lovely letter and 2 gorgeous 8 by 10 autographed pictures that I cherish. She was a fantastic person as well as actress. ❤
I didn’t know she could sing. Beautiful voice and beautiful Maureen.
She very much wanted the role in the film of “The King & I” which went to Deborah Kerr (who didn’t sing).
Always wondered why it wasn’t given to O’Hara(Studio politics, star status at the time?)
@@hawby7mghZanuck said he didn't want A Pirate Queen as his Anna. Maureen had done some swashbucklers around that period.
everyone knew she sang.....but everyone knew she couldnt sing well enough to make a movie
She sanf in "The parent Trap".
@@cmcb09 No, it was Richard Rodgers who said that. Zanuck wanted her for it.
Spectacular! Wow! I don’t think her voice was ever captured so well in the movies! Thank you so much for sharing. Maureen O’Hara is one of the great beauties of all time! 💐🎙💖
Very beautiful
Maureen O'HARA was one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. No actress today can match her beauty Lovely voice
Maureen can sing? How did I not know this?❤
Maureen O’Hara sang in “The Parent Trap” and “The Quiet Man”. The clips are available on UA-cam.
@@TubeLVTI had forgotten that she sang in those movies. I always admired Maureen O’Hara. She was s beautiful woman and a wonderful actress. And she had a lovely voice, too!
Aww, how sweet! I love Maureen! She's one of my favorite actresses, and one of the prettiest women to come out of Ireland! ☺😍💜
Beautiful, strong and classy.
@@ladyofthecreek279 I absolutely agree!✨
Filmed at the Sportspalast in Berlin, West Germany. This is the episode which also featured Connie Francis, Louis Armstrong and Van Cliburn playing "Polonaise" (which was one of my grandfather's favorite performances on the Sullivan show). Most of the footage has been uploaded now, and is available in a playlist on this channel, but we are still waiting for Connie's medley of hits on the program, which would be great to see!
Thank you for the info. Why was this episode filmed in Berlin?
@@AmyWhoLovesFlowers You're welcome! I don't know the specific reason but several special episodes were filmed in different locations around the world. It's possible this one was filmed in Berlin for the purpose of entertaining the soldiers stationed there as you can see Connie Francis singing to them in the "Where The Boys Are" video from this show.
Wow, "The Quiet Man" is one of my top-three favorite movies of all time - I loved Maureen O'Hara in that picture (amongst many others in that cast, including, of course, John Wayne). I had no idea that she could sing so beautifully. Such a pleasant surprise for me today.
Maureen O’Hara sang in “The Quiet Man”.
She Sang two.songs in The quiet Man
Didn't know she had a great voice and sang. She is a great actress and very Beautiful. Love her in " Miracle on 42nd Street". With a little Natalie Wood. Those days had many actors/actresses with multiple talents.❤
Thanks for showing this ; great to see MS O’Hara really can sing for herself and others…😊! I am surprised she wasn’t in more MGM grand musical films of the day.
Have a great day!
Maureen would have made a wonderful Anna in The King And I.
I agree
A Rodgers and Hammerstein classic beautifully sung by a true show business legend.
I NEVER SAW A FILM IN WHICH SHE VOCALIZED. I WASN'T ENAMORED BY HER SINGING VOICE BUT IT WAS THE TYPICAL AND PASSABLE LIGHT OPERA VOICE POSSESSED BY MANY FEMALES WHO APPEARED IN MUSICALS DURING THE "GOLDEN AGE OF HOLLYWOOD."
MAUREEN O'HARA IS HIGH ON MY LIST OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ACTRESSES OF ALL TIME, TOPPED BY RAQUEL WELCH AND ALSO INCLUDING LINDA DARNELL, GINA LOLLOBRIGIDA, RHONDA FLEMING, ASHLEY JUDD, DIANE BAKER,
VIRNA LISI, SOPHIA LOREN, AVA GARDNER,
STELLA STEVENS, NATALIE WOOD, SUSAN HAYWARD, AND RITA HAYWORTH.😊
She sang on The Quiet Man.
She had a short-lived Broadway Musical Christine and did a couple of albums as well.
@@sallylapradd2900
I was thinking of googling to learn if she sang in any FILMS. Now I wish that I had.
Thanks.😊
My favorite actress.
She was wonderful! 😊
gorgeous 👏 👏
If she could see what is happening to Europe, especially Ireland, her heart would be broken
My older brother named his tiny baby girl Maureen for her he had a major starlet crush on her she was lovely firey spirited red head a beauty now we see her acting snd singing 🎶 thank for for sharing her iconic voice and talents ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
She looks great
Nice...
She was so beautiful and she had a very pleasant voice
Hey, that's John Candy's mom in Only The Lonely and Hayley Mills' mother in The Parent Trap !!!
Her mother was a famous singer, her brother(s) could sing, too. Maureen played the piano and sang in 'The Quiet Man.' Her voice is classically trained, so doesn't appeal to younger listeners accustomed to being shrieked at.
She was up for the part of Anna in the film of "The King & I", but Richard Rodgers squashed it, saying "No pirate queen is going to play my Anna!". What a schlemeil. She would have been just as good as Deborah Kerr.
The studio system had ended, no one was "owned" by a film studio and actors had to find other avenues for their talents. Look at the marquees of 60's Las Vegas they were filled with movie stars who used to be signed to studios, now out on their own with a singing/dancing act. The end of the studio system did this, leaving them to fend for themselves
Hello
A spitfire of an actress. Gorgeous. As a singer, passable.
......unnecessary to say that. Enjoy it. Don't be mean - Seriously!
There are other videos of O’Hara singing. She is far better than how she sounds on this particular video. Could gave easily played Anna in the film version (Kerr was dubbed - couldn’t sing. Great actress, but imagine having O’Hara acting and singing for herself).
Back when stars were famous for having true talent, nevermind possessing beauty, dignity and brass. Maureen and many of her peers did so without feminism. Imagine that.
i didnt know she could sing either
Embarrassing but beauty killed the beast....this however is a terrific song of melancholy if you listen to Sinatra sing it...
What does "but beauty killed the beast" mean?🤔😊
Sinatra?!
Why ruin a wonderful career with such an embarrassing presentation of a gorgeous song?
Ruin?
Sorry - it’s a shady video with poor sound. Look into other videos of Ms. O’Hara singing. She had a lovely, pure voice and could easily have sung her own vocals in the film version of The King & I. I very much admire Deborah Kerr - great actress. But O’Hara could have acted & done her own singing.
She is obviously very nervous here singing live for more than 30 million people. Because of this, sadly, she was not at her very best. During this time she also recorded 2 albums and her singing is so very beautiful and flawless!
Has to be the world’s most unmusical song…
Stick to acting lady...
Great actress, but not much of a singer
MICHIGANDER HERE/SUZY 😊 WOW!!! WHAT A BEAUTY!!! A TRUE LEGEND!!!! AND MY FAVORITE ACTRESS!!!!! AND SHE’S FROM IRELAND 🇮🇪 I’M SCOTCH/ ☘️ IRISH ALSO, EVEN BETTER!!!
