That GSX is absolutely stunning. They look like crap when all riced out by a 12 yr old, but when done right by someone who understands the GSX rarity its a work of art.
Try 98 talon TSI AWD rarity! DSM's are definitely getting harder to track down up here in Canada but I still find them.....I even find them all over the states right off the intertates often.
I really like Rob as a host, not only is he good on camera and knows a shitload on cars, but he knows the feeling of having a really unique and custom build that are like urban legends
That Wagon is something that is my goal for my CM1 Accord Tourer. Plan in the long run is upgraded JDM CM3 Accord Tourer rear diff, Manual 6-Speed K-series trans with the transfercase, built K24A3 w Holset HX35 or HX40 making around 450-500Hp (not as nuts as the EVO Wagon)
Girlfriend has one of these 2G Eclipses in the same color, and we have been following Miguel for a while. Miguel has given us hope that we can finish our project and have it turn out half as good as his. We are trying to keep these cars alive just like most of y'all who still have one. I'm going to post updates soon on this channel.
When I was in middle school. My dream car was a 97 Eclipse GSX. I owned a 92 Eclipse, but it was the 92 hp base model. I learned to drive a manual in an Eclipse. Always had a soft spot for DSMs in my heart.
One of my uncles used to have a Mitsubishi 3000GT. I was too young to remember if it was a VR4, but I’m fairly certain it was. He very rarely took it out of the garage, but he did let me sit in the driver’s seat while it was parked once haha. Mitsubishis are so cool, especially when they’re well built.
The DSM platform is not unreliable it’s the people who have dogged them out and not taken care of them. Miguel, Me and so many others who love the 4g63 DSM know how loved these cars are and do everything we can to keep them going. If everyone who owned the platform did their maintenance and spent money on the right performance parts these cars would be worth a lot more. 🙏🏽
100%. I bought a bone stock 2g Talon TSi AWD in college that was a one owner car, barely driven at all, let alone hard, and that thing never had a single major mechanical issue on me. On the other hand, my Evo IX that turned out to have been abused to hell and back before I owned it (it was reverted to stock before it was sold, and I impatiently bought it from a dealership that knew nothing about it) has had every issue imaginable. It's all about how the cars were maintained.
Any car that needs to cuddled every step of the way is unreliable. That's like saying Subaru motors are reliable if you keep up with rebuilds , you shouldn't have to baby a motor for it to be reliable .
@@christopherdaniel2747 He didn't say baby it. he said don't put 15k in body kits, paint, stereos and nitrous and then wonder why it's fucking broken because that's what happened to 90% of them in the fast and the furious era.
Miguel’s dsm is by far the most beautiful eclipse build I’ve ever seen! I promise after I finish all my projects, I will be building one as well with a 4g63 motor too! It just looks so good under the hood! The car looks so sick driving down the track!
Well at least you sold it when prices were on the up. I sold my Evo IV for £3500, & I've not seen one today that was in nicer condition than mine was. 3.5k was the going rate, you could pick up Evo IIIs for less than that a decade ago.
Thank you so much for showcasing and talking about DSMs. There’s still of a few of us out here trying to keep the name relevant in Motorsport and the tuning world. Those of us that love these cars, truly love them, stay loyal to them.
A few days ago, Throttle House posted a vid about a Pajero Evo, now you guys are posting this. You have both successfully reignited my frustration with Mitsubishi 😣😂
Another great episode. This could have just been another "oh look another cool car" series but Rob's knowledge and genuine passion and respect for his fellow tuners (and their cars) makes it special.
I think every car guy forms that bond to their first car. Mine was a 91 civic hatch that eventually got a boosted k24/20 swap with full si-r interior and exterior. When I sold it 8 years later, it was like losing a family member after all of the time and money put into it. I also built a lot of it with my son so those memories are priceless.
IM HERE FOR THIS SERIES WIT ROB AS THE HOST!!!!! he brings the passion and love and excitement and appreciation for the cars as someone who also has some crazy cars and i love it keep this going
Loved these Eclipses since i was a kid and have always been my dream car since i first laid eyes on them. By far, Miguel's Eclipse is one the most cleanest example of what these type of cars should be period. No fancy ricer crap, just the needed mods without losing the essence and looks of the car. This is the Eclipse at it's finest.
Felicidades Miguel por salir en el vídeo! Los coches son perfectos, que gozada poder modificar el coche sin límite y poder conducirlo sin problemas con la policía o la inspección. Saludos.
10yrs build respect man so long time people like us who have to work and try to save every penny i have so much respect for that and that you had the patience for so long
I had to sell my 97 3000 GT VR4 in the summer of 2021. Had to move overseas for work. I still miss her everyday. I still keep in touch with the new owner, I hope to buy it back some day.
Absolutely loved watching this. Couldn’t imagine two better cars for this selection. So happy to see Rob interact with a platform I have so much love for
Had a 92 gs eclipse in high school then bought a 91 awd talon. Went through lots of transmissions and clutches, and had a lot of fun. I miss those days, thanks for bringing the DSM into the light
Mitsubishi top brass REALLY f’d up in late 99 when they decided not to continue along the same lines as the 95-99 Eclipse! They had an affordable little sports car featuring fun commercials with great music and a youthful vibe. Also, I don’t care what anyone says about the gen 1 and gen 3…they don’t compare in both sheer style combined with power in a compact. Mitsu peaked in December 1999 in my opinion and have fallen off every year since. Great feature Top Gear and Miguel!!! 🙌🏾
I had a '90 Eclipse GSX, a '97 Eclipse GSX, a '00 Eclipse GT, and finally an '04 Evo VIII, which is my daily driver. Engine was rebuilt and lightly tuned. Garaged and cared for all it's life, it gets a lot of attention and I love the power and handling. I recently had it fully detailed, with paint correction and ceramic coating in my new home of Prescott, AZ. The detail company did a video and photo shoot to be featured on their website and brochures!
I found rotary daddy Rob Dahm, here... on top gear?! What a surprise, was not at all near excited seeing it was video by Top Gear, but my eyes were very pleased to see Rob as the host! we need more!
That Evo is one of the sickest wagons I've ever seen! And that gen Eclipse will always be a legend. It's stunning. Thanks for keeping the dream alive miguel!
I feel like I just warped to another dimension watching both Miguel and Dahm's channels religiously. ""Wait, is that miguels car on top gear? ROB DAHM IS DRIVING IT???" hahaha
I saw this I believe it was a 1997 eclipse, that was baby blue pearl with white interior, twin turbo, sweet rims, and everything and was converted into a convertible. Was the sweetest eclipse I had ever seen.
My second car was a 1998 gst midnight purple color. I LOVED and never forgot how it felt to sit in it and drive it. One of the best handling vehicles I’ve ever driven, and the ergonomics of the driver seat felt like the car was a fighter jet everything is centered towards the driver. My buddy is the guy that got me into the Mitsubishi world. He always had an eclipse or talon built around 400-500 horsepower all work done himself in his backyard. Would get bored and sell it and get a different one. He loved dsms so much he has a the 3 diamonds tatted on his body. To summarize LOVE the eclipses and talons.
Best looking compact import in the 90s. And I had a 2000 Civic Si back then, but always thought the Eclipse look way better. A 97 Eclipse was one of the cars I learned to drive a manual in.
I grew up with my dad owning a red GST 98’ and it was the coolest freaking car. We ended up getting an accord and then later on a 07’ civic si. The eclipse is definitely a hidden gem thank you for This video. I still love cracking vtec in my kswap EG
I used to tell people it's possible to put the Evo 4 to 9 motor in the eclipse and ppl would laugh at me. Glad someone actually did it. The eclipse runs the same 4G63 as the Evo 1 to 3's. As for the wagon, I used to see Evo wagons all the time when I was stationed in Japan. So hearing that they are rare really shocks me.
2:31 it’s called a gs naturally aspirated single overhead cam 1.8 L in-line 4 with front wheel drive. A gst is a turbo 16 valve dohc 2.0 L in line 4 with front wheel drive. The gsx was a 16 valve dohc turbo 2.0 L in line 4 with awd. The sister cars where the Plymouth laser and eagle talon. For the Plymouth it was all the same besides the fact you couldn’t have an all wheel drive Plymouth laser until 92. But the Mitsubishi eclipse and the eagle talon all has 3 different variations one of course, with all wheel drive before 92. 92 is the remodel year for all of them the difference between the two is called a gen A or Gen b. The talon models were DL, ES/ESI , and tsi and tsi awd. I finesse over DSM’s
I don't think you see Eclipses cause they were driven into the ground and ripped up and chopped up by modders. I remember it was my buddies first car in like... 2000? Definitely don't remember it being particularly reliable. Usually sat in yards lol
I've had 30 DSM's, currently daily driving my 2g tsi awd. perfectly reliable when maintained, more reliable then my friends honda 10 fold........not toyota reliable tho. lol
Would have loved to see a 1g dsm on here.... dsms are highly underrated, happy to see Miguel here these also aren't notoriously unreliable at all they're pretty bullet proof one of my buddy's is making 650 wheel on a stock motor... the problem is and always has been diy people that don't know what they're doing or people buying cheap parts or under building their cars for their desired power goals. You could easily have a 6-700 maybe 800hp dsm and have it be reliable.
Rob does such a great job for this series. He has the background knowledge, the passion, and presents so well on camera. Really knocked it out of the park with this series.
Hmm, I never knew Rob Dahm joined top gear. Congratulations Rob! Correct me if I'm wrong, but GSX originally came with 4g63, but it was "mirrored" to the 4g63 of the EVO, meaning it was the same engine, just with everything on the other side
Yes. Miguel calls his a GSX out of convenience but it started as a GS 420A engine, which is also flipped. That's why you have to use an Evo 4G63 instead of the Eclipse 4G63
My 1ga Eagle Talon is so rare in my area and always breaks necks from the older people who recognize it. Drove it for a long roadtrip and back, over 3 hrs, and it got home well and only took 1/4 tank of gas. DSMs can do good as long as the owner can take care if them imo.
0:20 i see two and a half every day the first a blue 1991 1GA gsx and the other is a 1995’ 2GB GST. The half is I have an 1992 1GB eagle that I’m practically married to so it’s not like I ever miss seeing one. Dsm 4 L1FE

The downfall of Mitsubishi has to be one of the saddest car tragedies of our generation.
I second that
Lancia too
Toyota turned it around, hope isnt lost!
@@filippo4425 I was going to say this. Lancia is even sadder imo

he doesn’t know a lot about piston engines, watch the indy car tear down he admits to that lol
Funny, I really really wholly and truly dislike Rob Dahm as a personality. He's so annoying. But I do love Mistu's
