Those 800 languages are different languages not just accents. Amazing right? Imagine having 800 translators at tour of this country
They're different languages, mostly tribal and some are only spoken by 300 people living in the jungle
A translator could make bank there id assume,
But 800 sounds unbelievable
You need to know only one language to get around and thats pidjin
I definitely did not know this information. Especially the many languages. Thanks!
After world war two control of png passed from germany to australia independence was in 1975. Recently the island of bougainville has separated.
My teacher in 76 came back from png and told the story of first arrival riding in a landrover up into the highlands. On a ridge they were stopped by two tribes throwing spears at each other. One of the warriors was speared through the leg. The fighting stopped and a feast was had that night. The rascals in port moresby were always very dangerous.
Germany only controlled the north of New-guinea and lost it after world war one, not two.
Hello from PNG 🇵🇬✌️
What language you speak?
@@komododragon410 tok pisin and the Kuman language from Simbu province
Why do you guys commit so much violence towards women?
@@tonyb.2341 we are not simps! We are not gender confused! It's apart of our tradition for women to cook clean, bear children and look after them. Do not push your way of living upon our thousands of years of culture. Have some respect and take your privileged life elsewhere

Fun Fact from Papua New Guinea. A group of people living just miles away from you might speak a totally different language with another dialect/accent. That's how diverse this country is.
That's a lot of countries tho
That describes so much countries tbh. Basically Europe
@@reycou6895 the thing in papua is that there's hundreds and they aren't even slightly intelligible. In Europe it's mostly indo European and uralic languages. In papua u have a bunch of different language families I believe
@@user-nb8dm1gz2t that sounds really interesting but also hard for a country
@@reycou6895 not really hard. Most of papua is literally just a jungle
For mountain climbers, who chase the 7 highest continent's peaks, the highest for Austral-Oceania continent is located on PNG, the Carstensz Pyramid
Love all the info. !!!!! ❤️✌🏼
Hi
@@harrisonalex1126 Hi !!!!
Where were you 10 minutes ago when that other channel asked me which country had 800 languages?
Australia did not colonise new Guinea. New Guinea was a protectorate of Australia after the war for a relatively short time. Edit: my brother worked in Papua in the 50s bringing electricity to villages. He said the people were dignified and deeply unimpressed with their new technology.
Great videos; keep it up 👍🇺🇸
As a Pacific Islander I can confirm that these are all true good to know home still has its good habitats 😊
Here in Papua New Guinea we have 22 provinces, and 89 districts and yes we share a border with Indonesia and we are melanesian people and yes we have 800+ languages from each province and some in districts and tribes and our country's currency in dollars is known as kina and our cents known as toea and our independence was on 16 September 1975 announced by our first prime minister Sir Micheal Somare who passed away in 2021 cuz of pancreatic cancer. I am from one of the provinces known as Simbu or (Chimbu) and yes we have the world's only poisonous bird the hooded pitohui, and yes 80%of our population still live in rural areas like the forest and still continue to have tribal wars. Yeah and for our independence days
we usually wear our traditional attires which are like banana leaves, tanget leaves, animal skin clothing and skirts, with head attires.Yeah , just wanted to share🌺👍🏼
Great information and very interesting.
It's my bucket list to make it there.
There you go from one neighborhood to another...You're a tourist 😅🤣
I was 🤩 “I want to visit” until he said “extremely high violence against women” 😬
No not really it just extreme violence only 😅
The enemy never tells the truth about their enemy ‼️
Thank you for sharing these fascinating facts 🏆♥️💐
missed t cannibals
They're dead.
Wow ! A poisonous bird..
Some might say 2200 is more than 800 😃
Do Nicaragua, plz
Kool remixes huh?
Speaking of language diversity: some languages in Papua New Guinea are as distant from each other as French is from Japanese.
I'm from PNG 🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬
Be proud.
Do you speak multiple different languages? What's it like living there in general?
@@SurprisinglyDeepno she doesn't
The bird got me!! 🐦 🦜 🖐🔥🔥
Wow, how primitive, seashells as money? Not like our modern cash that's backed by...uh...nevermind
And you forget the Dutch
PNG is currently torn by violent conflicts between tribes and between the people and government.
The capital city Port Moresby has no roads that lead to other cities. The country itself has no national road network. Reportedly this is not because they could not defend the construction workers during the building of a road (although that supposedly would be an issue) It is that the country is so untamed they have no way to guarantee the safety of travelers from highwaymen on the road.
You can ask me about my country here👇
My brother who is a pastor, brought his wife and seven other people of his congregation to Papa New Guinea and he told us a story he went to tribal camp and when he walked near there were people's heads chopped off on poles surrounding the camp and there was a baby and as soon as it was born, they cut it's organs out and ate them and then they cut it's arms and legs off and put the torso on a pole over 100 feet high....me seeing that I would have turned around, but not my brother he went up in there shared the gospel of God even tho they threatened to take his life numerous times, he never showed fear and keep giving the word of god...after they were done it seemed like no one wanted to believe him, so they was waking back thru the jungle with their guides going to back to the car to go back to civilization and won't you know 14 people came looking for them wanting to give their life to God....my brother is awesome he has done grea missionary work all over the world and I'm sorry to say he is dying if cancer right now in a hospital bed, he don't have long for life(please pray) but I know he is ready to go home to meet his savior...god bless My wonderful brother
Brother Milo, thank you for sharing that courageous story of faith and triumph. So many of us forget that there are equally-courageous missionaries all over the world spreading that message of salvation, tolerance, harmony and love for fellow humans.
@@brianjob3018 sad that there are alot of tribes in remote places that never heard the gospel or even heard of jesus
I think even atheists that heard that story would appreciate your brother, since if that tribe in particular converted to Christianity (or at least developed some sort of hybrid belief system that was a mix of their native beliefs with Christianity) then they would likely commit less needless murder.
Not to disrespect your your brother's courage and hard work but the anecdote about the locals eating the baby seems almost too awful to believe, although I've heard similar stuff about a few other tribes and I know the harsh rugged mountainour isolated jungle environment of PNG creates a shortage of food for many jungle dwellers, so I can believe it.
How much for that plane? 200 000 shells
How the hell do u fit 800 languages in such a small country!
Tbh I didn't realise it, I just thought every country was the same as us until my grade 4 teacher told us
Yeah I know, crazy right, my grandpa speaks 12 different languages so he can communicate with other tribes near his tribe, not just him but a lot of people are like that, I speak 4 local languages plus English of my late uncles spoke at least 8
@@tekajikuyalkrul5111 Are there any similarities betwern any of the native languages in Papua New Guinea?
@@SurprisinglyDeep nope not at all, even with their facial features differ from place to place, in some areas they look really black as if they're africans some are descendants of asians who came and settle in different part of the country thousands of years ago so they look different in some places the skin tones look like ginger, the only things that unite us is Christianity, Rugby, a pidgin language that was invented for everyone to understand
@@tekajikuyalkrul5111 That's interesting to know, thank you for telling me this.
Have any scientists and/or researchers ever talked with any of the local tribes and studied their languages and discovered "my goodness [this language this one tribe speaks] somewhat resembles [a language spoken in a different part of the world like Asia, Europe, Africa and/or another part of Oceania]"?
But the bird is so cute...
It has the most VENOMOUS bird not poisonous. And that's why i have no friends.
Ah yes the rural area like jungle
Third largest rainforest?
That's freaking scary.
Bit hey, we deserve more space to grow crops to feed animals because "whatever meat eater argument".
Money and geopolitics usually beat out human rights. Since the Suharto dictatorship of Indonesia annexed West Papua in a 1969 U.N. referendum - largely viewed as a land grab - an estimated 500,000 West Papuans have been killed fighting to achieve independence.
Don’t like the violence against women part!!!!
Meanwhile India having 800+ languages and each language having different dialect which changes literally for every 100+ km you travel.
Tell, do you consider linguistic diversity a benefit?
A nother fact, Papua New Guinea is split in half and colonised for most of your food by Indonesia. The natives are genocided.
A statistic of violence against women is a bit misleading if it isn't compared to violence in general or against males, which is usually higher.
Maybe it is currently just a more violent country.
British and Australians are not different nations they are the same...it is called the British Empire.
Wow, you and the girl below you! The British Empire has not existed for decades, replaced by the British Commonwealth, which has about 27 countries, including Australia. The only people who are British now are part of Great Britain, which is Scotland, Wales and England.
You think I'm a American I'm not I'm a Papua New Guinea
🤠 the Australians & british are the same people ??
Ohh for your kind information india has 1600 languages.... 😅😅😅😅

Hi from KOKOPO
I M PNG
Your very wrong about the colonial parts it was first colonized by the sultanate of tidore for about 250yrs then Holland and Japan then the Germans annexed the north and the British annexed the south. Australia never colonized PNG they took over custodianship and protectorate has part of the UN . It was past over by the British then in ww1 they took over the German north under the league of nations mandate.
Australians...are...British.
Only those in Great Britain are considered British.
You forgot to say PNG is one of the most poor country in Oceania or South East Asia.
mate...you are stupid to say that..that is completely wrong!
And not at all, not in the minimum violence against men?!? You are spreading mizandry!
Also USA owned.
🇺🇸
Nope, it's the Chinese that's running a lot of things here and now Australia are trying to make sure they don't completely take us cuz we're the gateway to the pacific
Oh oh aus a colonialist?
It's population is mostly European so colonialism comes naturally.
It was during WW1, Germany had colonized Papau New Guinea.. But the Austrlians defeated the germans in the end losing Papau New Guinea.
@@JohnSmith-lp8wt sure, China and Tibet. Indonesia and West Papua and East Timor.
Australia hasn't colonised anyone, Papua New Guinea was an invasion to remove enemy forces that were German and it's been returned.
@@andrewmills744 no australia shed its imperialist past after the election of gough whitlams labour party in1972. It is dialects, not languages.!
It's languages mate, we have over 850 different languages the only way to unite us was to create a made up language for everyone to use
@@tekajikuyalkrul5111 it is a language if there is a written script. If the speech cannot be written either it is pidgin(a lot of countries have pidgin) or a dialect(just a tiny step up) .
@@KironManuelCards who says it has to be written to be a language, we don't have our own alphabet so we use the English Alphabet to write it

@@KironManuelCards yes I am from Papua New Guinea and your reasoning of what a language is just beyond stup!d
I'm pretty sure India got more languages... It's just that the government only recognise around 8 as main languages .
I detest the word "diverse".

india has over 1100 languages right?
