I’m surprised the health inspector didn’t come in disguise or something. The reason why they do this is so they don’t get special treatment and just see how the food actually is. They also don’t want the people to panic and stuff
Working as a chef, let me tell you, the Health Inspector will never go to try the food (Too risky). They literally check for labeling, temperature of coolers, general cleanliness, etc. Whenever we see someone with a cap with a government seal on in and they're carrying an (nowadays) iPad, we immediately go to Red Alert.

I watched this episode when it first came out and rewatched it and that was basically what I thought as well. Like, how was I 7 years old watching a cartoon where they are trying to hide a body? Lol
You are correct. Health Inspectors don't order food. They just look around. They kind of mix it up in this episode with a food critic (and even then, restaurants don't give them free food. The critic will be compensated by their publisher, but the restaurant does get money)
Mr Crabs seems to keep having an issue jumping to conclusions. First he blames Squidward for the misplacement of his dime; Now calling the health inspector a fraud after a news report.
I used to be a baker at Schlotzky's. That place had at any given time maybe 30 flies in the back where the food was prepared. They got all over the bread I baked, all the time. We had a health inspector come by and gave us a 90/100. Unbelievable.

There’s a theory about how the cartoon physics work in SpongeBob that the water within water is actually freshwater. In blue lagoon episodes the theory does make sense how characters drown because sea creatures can’t survive in freshwater
Doesn't make sense because this show is said to take place in the Bikini atoll or whatever it's called which is a part of the sea. Also, the "water" at Goo Lagoon may or may not be based off of the mist or whatever it is in some oceanic pools or holes or whatever they are called.
The Krusty Krab does have other foods on the menu, but A) Krabby Patties are the main attraction and B) the other food items are rarely ever relevant to the plot.

You know SpongeBob could've just asked Mr. Krabs for the key to the back door lock instead of stuffing the health inspector in his hat and walking through the front.
In the Krabby Kronicle, Plankton's restaurant, The Chum Bucket, was shut down by the health inspector because Mr. Krabs was spreading libel in his own newspaper.
I have worked in restaurants, and health inspectors don’t order food. They ensure that food is properly stored and dated. They check the cleanliness of the restaurant, verify if it is following food safety protocols, and inspect if cleaning chemicals are being dispensed properly. They also check if the dishwasher is reaching the proper temperature.

"You could have talked me out of it" "I can't go to prison, they'll wipe the floor with me." Funny how literal that is since he's a sponge. Mr. Krabs saying, "SpongeBob killed him." Then SpongeBob saying "What!? You can't pin this whole rep on me!" I also love how in the beginning SpongeBob was deviously excited to sabotage the Krabby patty, then was filled with guilt and anxiety when they thought they committed murder.

As someone who's worked in food service: Health inspectors don't usually eat at the restaurant during their inspections. (They could if they really wanted to, but restaurants aren't obligated to give inspectors free food, like this episode implies.) Realistically he'd inspect the cleanliness of the entire restaurant. (Both front and back of house.) Making sure the food in the walk in fridge is being dated and isn't expired, rotated first in first out and every food item is being stored properly to prevent cross contamination. One violation isn't going to shut down a restaurant. But they will point out any violations they find to management and publicly post them in the newspaper or online. (Both critical and non-critical violations are reported.) They usually give you until the next inspection to correct the violations they find. I believe they also do this for School Cafeterias, if I'm not mistaken.
@soundspark He'd come back with notes on the violations beforehand and inspect the restaurant as normal to see if the issues written down in his notes have been corrected: Sitting down and sampling the food to see if it'll get you sick or not, is just plain irresponsible and potentially life threatening. (Depending on the health and safety violations)
