    It is becoming quite disturbing how much I look forward to "Table Football Monthly" every month, and how much time I spend thinking about it.
    Great show, guys...and I really enjoy identifying as one of the "table football folk" . Thanks Keith.

    Excellent reviews. The snowy pitch is reminiscent of two Orient homes: Rotherham on a Sunday in January 1984 and Bristol City 1985.

    I remember that on Subbuteo the atmospheric humidity had an influence on the game / pitch. In humid days the ball and the players slid with much more friction, in contrast to the dry days when the sliding was smoother and fast. Thus, on humid days it was common to iron both pitch and carpet before the matches. The Subbuteo i had was the Continental edition. I remember almost having an 'extasis' when I received it as a gift on a Christmas back in the 70's. But, of course, the Munich edition was seen as the 'Quintessence'.

    Desperately need help: Used to own Striker, Goleador Derby, Manifoot and Kyle Rote. There was a fore-runner to striker that was not Tip-Kick but had heads you fully press like Striker. Teams were red and one yellow. Sold it with all my stuff to a guy called James Hills and am desperately trying to find what it was! Love the programme!!!x

      The game was called Schuss ins Tor from Germany - we featured it last month (or maybe Dec) and made the connection that the game was a forerunner of Striker. Contact me on info@tabletopyears.com and I'll send you a pic/clip. Cheers Keith

    Hi Guys, first time i,ve seen the show, only clocked it[ feb 20 show] when google-ing for BIG LEAGUE, which i had as a kid in the 1970,s,, i also had subbuteo, striker & super striker,, but big league was me & my mates game to play, we changed it a bit, used to lay pitch on bedroom floor, my mum used to come in bedroom with handful of ironing and accidentley tread on players which happened quite a few times ,, so we,d end up with say 9 a side side , so i came up with idea to take players off the stands, lie them on pitch in there positions, we used subbuteo goals instead & used a striker football, played it for hours after school & weekends,,,, on the downside of big league was goals to big & no moving goalkeeper ,but they did bring out sets with hole in the goal & a stick that attached around keepers waist,,,, i,ll be watching your show each month ,, enjoyed it loads,, cheers stay safe peoples

    Great channel, just how I remember my childhood. We had striker and subbuteo.Subbuteo was the most played upon our mini snooker table but striker was a fun thing to play. Never had big league and I can imagine the frustration at having to paint the figures before playing. I’ll give you guys a mention on my channel .😎👍

    I was always intrigued by the fact that they called it the Munich World Series Edition as opposed to World Cup Edition. Also, the new World Cup was not featured in the box. Was that due to the fact that Waddington didn't want the new product to sound similar to the old 1970 edition, or was it simply a question of licensing and advertising rights not being extended to Waddingtons???

    Great show, look forward to watching it, the content is good. Do any of you know the best way to adapt the old style floodlights to use maybe 3 AA.s or similar instead of the old 4.5v lantern style with the 2 prongs, also possible bulb upgrade?, appreciate any ideas, thanks

    • @TableTopYears
      @TableTopYears  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Phill. We demonstrated Subbuteo Pylon floodlights adapted to take 3 AA batteries in our first (July) Edition which is on the channel. You may be able to glean something from that - sadly I didn't do the conversion so I can't add any detail beyond what was shown. In the December Edition we showed new floodlights from Subbuteostadium.com. If you go to their site they have adapted traditional Subbuteo Floodlights to be usb charged and they have 32 LEDs and could light an airport runway! Cheers Keith

      Hello Phill - I sprinkled 3 different types of modelling scatter (used on model railways and dioramas) over the pitch and then brushed it in until it was flat. It worked really well but took a long while to clean off! Cheers Keith

    How much did the Munich Edition cost when it was first released? Does anyone know? All I remember is that I couldn't get anywhere near affording it...

    • @TableTopYears
      @TableTopYears  4 роки тому

      I believe the set cost £9.90 in 1974...a lot of loot. Mine must be worth over £12 by now!

    • @Nuttybott
      @Nuttybott 4 роки тому +1

      I noticed that the Munich Edition was featured in the 1973-74 Subbuteo catalogue...which means it was released onto the market BEFORE England failed to qualify for the 1974 World Cup.
      This would explain why the set included the England team, but not Scotland. Most people would have been expecting England to qualify, but probably thought Scotland wouldn't make it.
      And I can imagine that, even after England's disastrous exit at the hands of Poland, Subbuteo's marketing executives decided that a lot more sets of the Munich Edition would be sold in England than in Scotland, simply due to the much larger population. Also, they may have astutely anticipated that a lot of "fantasy" re-stagings of the 1974 World Cup (suitably retconned so that England DID qualify) would be played out on the tables and floors of young English football fans...

    • @TableTopYears
      @TableTopYears  4 роки тому

      @@Nuttybott Correct. It was planned well in advance following the success of the 1970 World Cup Edition and England were considered a 'cert' for qualification. Sadly England were at the start of a decline that in many ways has not been addressed whilst Scotland, following European Cup Finals for Celtic in 67 and 70 and Rangers in the Cup Winners Cup, were at the start of a Golden Era with every major English Team having influential Scottish players.

    • @Nuttybott
      @Nuttybott 4 роки тому

      "with every major English Team having influential Scottish players".
      Funny how Scottish players seemed slightly "exotic" back then. Do major English teams still have any Scottish players? I honestly don't know, as I never watch football any more...to be honest, the over-hyped, hollow Premier League circus killed my interest in the game, with its over-emphasis on money, and its concentration of the game's success in the hands of a few elite, super-rich clubs. Nowadays my involvement in football is restricted to studying its history (UA-cam videos of old matches, along with BACKPASS magazine), and of course Subbuteo and "Table Football Monthly"...
