PTR actually did a small batch of HK33 builds from parts kits (original magazines - they didn't make any new ones). Century made the receivers but PTR did all the assembly and builds. I've got one in the safe.
Imagine making a clone of a gun 40 years after the originals commercial failure, only for it it fail for the same reason of "we already have plenty of guns that do this, for cheaper"
Which is a massive shame, because had they just done a 93 clone proper, and did it for 1400-ish, people would be more than happy to buy it. But this thing? It just looks like absolute ass. A CETME L would be a much better buy.
@@zubdub2506 Nothing against Marcolmar, because they did an incredible job with what they had to work with, but those CETME Ls seem awfully finicky about what metal mags they will take.
@@danielgreen6547 I handled a Marcolmar, in a gun shop about two years ago. The action and controls were rough, they can only accept older metal magazines, the telescoping stock was impossible to slide in and out, internal parts looked rough, it was a no brainer pass from me.

Apparently you didn't watch the video. It has the AR buffer tube SOLELY so that a more common, cheaper and more adjustable AR-style collapsing stock can be fitted. He specifically says at the end of the video that the traditional HK stock can be fitted AND the traditional HK handguard can be fitted as well. He also says that the lower/grip can be swapped from the AR-style to a more traditional HK style as well. In other words, this gun is basically an EXACT HK41 clone. Its unique, Ill give it that. But at "roughly $1900", not gonna happen. There are other options for that price that take AR mags and dont look wonky ass, and options that are much less and still interesting.
Same, I was pretty excited when I clicked on the video and was quickly disappointed. More people I think are interested in an HK33 and this isn't close enough to be a G41 clone so it just misses both markets.

I’d be interested at half their projected MSRP. It’s a cool non-AR rifle that uses AR magazines. But for that kind of money I’d get something different. For $1000-$1200 I might be more interested. I’d have to handle it
I have ALWAYS wanted a HK33A3 with the 12.1 inch barrel which would make so much more useful with the later introduced 1/7 twist and 77gr OTM ammo for CQB Role that would be one hell of a Truck Gun to Form 1 into a SBR!
I hope they do make a really close traditional version like the G41. I'm not interested in a weird modern thingy like this, but a mostly correct 41, that catches my eye.
This is what the G41 evolution would have looked like. Very nice. Seems like it could make for a good AR alternative. The only thing holding it back from such a coveted title is the price. If in line with PTRs bigger brother prices around $1200, it would certainly be an AR alternative. I feel like PTR is making the same mistake as Beretta with the ARX 100, which flopped largely due to its sky high price.
I have several thoughts on this. First of all, judging by both the comments and my initial impression on first watch of this video, I think it was a mistake to show/launch this gun with the swapped-out AR-style parts (stock, handguard and grip) instead of the traditional H&K G41 parts. Most people probably don't even know that the G41 exists because it was such an unsuccessful rifle for H&K, but I think if this gun had been released in that more traditional G41 form, more people would've had a better first impression of the gun. Even I looked at this thing and thought "what a waste...nobody is going to buy this ugly-ass thing". That was my immediate first impression. But looking up H&K's G41 actually changed my mind on this. I think the major problem is what I mentioned before. The AR stock and grip in particular were a mistake. They just look stupid, and the fact of the matter is that pretty much all of us who are buying H&K clones these days (both MP5 and G3s) are doing so because we love the LOOKS of those ICONIC guns more than anything else. There is no question that the MP5 has been surpassed by much better (from an ergonomics perspective) 9mm subguns over the last few decades. The same is true of the G3 (and the FAL for that matter). An AR-10 style rifle in .308 is better than a G3 in every single way. But we buy MP5 and G3 clones because we are buying iconic firearms that the morons at H&K have refused to give American civilians for DECADES now (which is why I buy "clones" over "real" H&Ks as much as possible...solely because I despise H&K as a company, even if I love almost every gun they make). So I think that releasing this gun in this configuration was a mistake...especially as far as first impressions go. After looking into the G41 (a gun I didn't even know existed), I have actually changed my mind on this gun compared to my first impression. At first I thought this was just a lame bastardization of the HK43/93 (and I guess if you want to get technical, the original G41 WAS actually exactly that) that was slapped together because PTR figured that people would be more likely to buy an HK93 clone if it took cheap, readily available AR-15 mags. But now that I know that this IS an actual clone of an actual H&K roller-delayed 5.56 rifle, I'm definitely warming up to it quite a bit. If these guys can confirm that this gun is compatible with the traditional H&K fixed and collapsing stocks, traditional H&K handguard and a traditional H&K lower/grip, then I may strongly consider getting one. However, my final thought on this gun is SOMEBODY JUST MAKE A DAMN HK43/93 CLONE FFS!!! Mags are ridiculously expensive...fine. A damn MP5 mag is SEVENTY DOLLARS!!! Yet both the "real" H&K SP5s and MP5 clones are flying off the shelves. I bought an American-made Zenith MP5 (which I am absolutely thrilled with) and I am going to be running exclusively the real H&K-made MP5 mags that are ridiculously overpriced. So there are A LOT of people out there like me who desperately want an HK43/93 clone that we can shoot and enjoy without spending $6,000 on a real H&K safe queen. I also refuse to believe that a company that makes metal AR-15 or even AK mags couldn't manage to introduce their own exact copies of the HK33/43/93 magazines. Even if they have to be $50 a piece or $75 a piece to turn a profit, people would buy them as long as they were reliable and looked just like the originals. So with all that said, I can appreciate why PTR chose to make a G41 clone instead of an HK93 clone, but SOMEONE PLEASE JUST MAKE A DAMN HK93 CLONE ALREADY! I was actually thinking about sending Zenith an email to tell them how much I love the MP5 clone that I bought from them last year, and in it I was going to ask them if they would consider expanding their American-made HK clone line to include both G3s AND maybe HK93s at some point. Based on the quality of the American-made Zenith MP5 clone I bought, I think they could become the go-to manufacturer for ALL HK roller-delayed clones if they chose to do so. They are already introducing an MP5K clone to their lineup, and I would absolutely LOVE to see them expand into full-size H&K clone rifles as well.
G3s and mp5s are baller. very few guns are actually better, in terms of cost-to-performance. you can buy a scar with a faster reload and equal accuracy to a G3, or you can pimp out a G3 for the price of a scar. it is very simple! idk why people buy any other 9mm than an mp5.
I really would like PTR to make either an HK21 or HK11 clone. The HK11 would certainly be the easier of the two since it's mag fed but the HK21 would be cooler. The US civilian market for belt fed systems is sorely lacking.

I agree. Hell for under 1800, you could build one that absolutely demolishes this. I think if they wanted to do a G41-esque gun, they should’ve went all the way. Or, what people actually wanted, and make the 33 clone. This is another one of those guns that doesn’t please either market and just fails.
I thought I would hate this, because the G41 is a stupid rifle designed by committee, but PTR's take on "Stonering" the H&K rifles seems a lot better. The functional hold-open alone is a fantastic addition, hope for a PTR61 and PTR64. Put that classic wide Tropical handguard on this rifle, and it'd be pretty cool, BUT, it needs a forward-assist.
For what it’s worth I shot this at Range day suppressed. It was smooth as hell. And the PTR suppressor is what they’re planning in the future. That bad boy is light and has a great tone.
I know some will want a clone correct HK33. But I feel this is a good step for PTR. Zenith is making a 33 (and hopefully mags) but this feels like a great choice to modernize the roller delay guns. The only real issue is weight and cost. It's a heavier 556 and near 2k. Some will like this but there are so many guns for the same price. Which is why they should do the same thing to their g3. Make it take AR10 mags and make it accurate.
100%. Dont know why people hating on this, making a HK AR hybrid with roller delay is brilliant. Modular and accurate meets durable and smooth shooting. Should be great!
Yup, I want one of these. Now do one that takes AR-10 mags. Not into the high speed fighting rifle stuff; love the modernized cold war designs that make people think "why didn't you just buy x?" stuff.
how much does it weigh, and will they be shooting for a higher standard of production quality than they do with their other products? At 1900 it’s going to have to go to bat with high quality and proven AR15 alternatives like the AUG, Galil ACE, Beretta ARX, VHS rifle, etc People will spring 1000 on a PTR G3 because it’s a nifty range toy and not too expensive, with some retro nostalgia. The modernization might make this one a miss
Got excited for a second then I remembered it's made by PTR "Lets make a potentially cool clone but weld some ugly picatinny rail and other non-clone features on it" Inc.
Personally, I'd like to see them do the same sort of thing for a .308 model - make it take SR-25 (magpul) pattern mags, AR grips & stocks, M-LOK forend etc. IDK maybe just me.
I actually would love one that takes ar10 mags with the last round bolt hold. I don't need another 5.56 option. I currently don't have any 308 battle rifle. Don't want another AR. I like the PTR 91 and DSA FAL clones but they're ancient designs. I like a lot of the more modern options but they're kind of expensive (APC 308, Scar) or dont have good customer support (MDRX). My leading choice was the Galil. a modernized HK91 at 1500 or so I'd be in for one.
Hop actually does a video on modernizing the G3 and how much of a pain in the ass it is. As some one who handled an intermediate cartridge galil ace 2 id say go with the .308 you wont be disappointed. A modernized FAL is also a good choice just because the design is older doesn’t mean it’s not a good design. There there’s a reason a lot of countries still use the FAL
I wouldnt let the age of the FAL dissuade you. Unless your looking for a proper "if shit falls apart in grabbing this gun" the FAL rocks. And even as a worst case scenario gun, the gun will outlast the ammunition you can carry, it'll just be likely impossible to find a spare part 10,000 rounds into the [insert situation here]
Well PSA is making a JAKL 308. It may be a year or two before it happens though. But it should be sub 2k. But until then sadly if your not gonna get an ar10, you gotta pay non AR prices. Which is the 2k mark.
Could they make a fully modern roller delayed 556? Seriously a mcx but roller delayed. No locking slot to HK slap just a fully modern roller delayed rifle?
Finally an HK G41 clone. I’m surprised HK didn’t do it in the 80’s but they changed laws for imports. I have a Heckler & Koch HK91 1981. 😢 it increased in value but it’s MY rifle there are many like it but this one is mine. I have to grab one of these
This is NOT anything like an AR/M16. The difference is you will NEVER have case-head seperation. In a Roller-delay blowback system, during recoil, the fired shell pushes the bolt group backwards. The bolt never pulls the fired shell out of the chamber. Look it up.
Everyone whines about the weight of the PTR 91 and I’m like it’s a 308 stop whining. BUT, a 556 carbine weighing almost 10 lbs empty.. 🤣🤦♂️. You can build a solid AR 7-7.5 lbs. I love my chunky PTR 91 but a 556 that heavy is just nuts. This would be a cool range gun though.
The only thing that bothers me here is the mag release being on the left side. It've been cool if they allowed one to use ar 15 mag releases in the magwell, and ship the gun with an ambi one.
So a 93 and a 15 had a baby...cool concept 🤔... if I happen to find an extra 2K and want a gun that I can't get extra parts for from Midway or Brownells...I might buy it.
i do want an hk93/hk33 but i understand why they chose this route. wouldnt mind having one of these with a 14.5" barrel with a keymo flash hider pinned & welded. might be a sweet shooter with a can on it.

Or, what people actually wanted, and make the 33 clone. This is another one of those guns that doesn’t please either market and just fails.
Pretty neato, but is it even possible to aim down the iron sights with the inline stock?
This gun just screams for Spuhr clone stock or rear pic rail, Magpul trigger housing and Timney trigger inside. And that's it.
Nobody’s seriously running timney
@@jstud999 Stock G3 trigger is like trying to break a dry branch with your finger. So anything will work better.
id prefer an ar15 upper with roller delayed system. But this is still a neat idea, I would be happy to see it succeed.
Well there are AR9s with roller delays. Interestingly one of which chose to put it in their buffer system.
I can't wait to buy one of these.
It may be inferior to the AR in every way, but at least it's ugly.
I'll be waiting on the the PTR63K.
Yea I agree i think they messed up doing a modern look.. Stick with the original HK 33 style
I just want an hk33
Y no HK33?
Would have been better to just make a roller delayed AR upper
@@perseusrex614I'm fairly certain there are roller delayed AR uppers out there, so this isn't the way to go, chief.
Stares at pair of C93's I've been banging away with for years and chuckles.
Wood handguard and stock option?
Why is nearly every AR alternative around the $2k mark? ffs Hard to make it compelling when they are generally double the price of a decent AR.
If they would’ve done a HK 33 or 93 it would sell like hotcakes that is more like a hot steamy pile of garbage
the ar15 and it's consequences have been a disaster.
The only turn off for me about this rifle is that bolt holdopen. I like the idea overall though, I just might actually bite on one
no one is talking about the amusing prospect of having a gun you can technically hit 3 times (mag tap, hk slap, bolt catch slap)
Yup, I want one of these. Now do one that takes AR-10 mags. Not into the high speed fighting rifle stuff; love the modernized cold war designs that make people think "why didn't you just buy x?" stuff.
Do you own an SL8?
I still need a 91 receiver for my parts kit lmfao
Why make this when everyone wants an HK33?
how much does it weigh, and will they be shooting for a higher standard of production quality than they do with their other products? At 1900 it’s going to have to go to bat with high quality and proven AR15 alternatives like the AUG, Galil ACE, Beretta ARX, VHS rifle, etc
People will spring 1000 on a PTR G3 because it’s a nifty range toy and not too expensive, with some retro nostalgia. The modernization might make this one a miss
A 13.7 pin and weld of this would be cool
Absolutely hate it! Where’s the 93, or 33 clones. WTH is this crap?!?
Got excited for a second then I remembered it's made by PTR "Lets make a potentially cool clone but weld some ugly picatinny rail and other non-clone features on it" Inc.
I have the Gen 1 Vortex Spitfire 3x too and there is no way the eye relief is good with it mounted that far forward.
My thoughts exactly, I have mine behind BUIS on a AR-15 and my nose pretty much rides the charging handle. Love the optic still.
@@b.anthony9214 Yeah, it's a lot better than the gen 2 in my opinion. I have it on a .308 build right now.
Personally, I'd like to see them do the same sort of thing for a .308 model - make it take SR-25 (magpul) pattern mags, AR grips & stocks, M-LOK forend etc. IDK maybe just me.
I wish PTRs had forged polygonal barrels
I love this gun! I'll buy one if the price comes down.
Whyy wouldn't you design another pin to swap the magwell? Didn't ghilliebear do that at one point?
And even as a worst case scenario gun, the gun will outlast the ammunition you can carry, it'll just be likely impossible to find a spare part 10,000 rounds into the [insert situation here]
Ace 🎲
Well PSA is making a JAKL 308. It may be a year or two before it happens though. But it should be sub 2k. But until then sadly if your not gonna get an ar10, you gotta pay non AR prices. Which is the 2k mark.
@@theob.8458 because hes 130lbs. its too heavy for him, and he didn't want to spend any money.
I remember when you could get G3/91 mags for 2 dollars.
Could they make a fully modern roller delayed 556? Seriously a mcx but roller delayed. No locking slot to HK slap just a fully modern roller delayed rifle?
When is PSA going to make piston operated blowback style AR's ?
Need a psg1 clone
Surprised it took this long to see a comment about the PSG-1, I'm interested as well.
416 next?
Finally an HK G41 clone. I’m surprised HK didn’t do it in the 80’s but they changed laws for imports. I have a Heckler & Koch HK91 1981. 😢 it increased in value but it’s MY rifle there are many like it but this one is mine. I have to grab one of these
Wow, swing and a miss on an HK33 dudes.
its not an hk33 attempt
@@rustys.1070 it should have been.
Beretta is grossly neglected in the clone market
Grisan: "Am I a joke to you?"
@@Blitzkrieg_Wolf Yes.
What is with the square plates above the grip? Looks unpolished. Probably be changed by production.
This is NOT anything like an AR/M16. The difference is you will NEVER have case-head seperation. In a Roller-delay blowback system, during recoil, the fired shell pushes the bolt group backwards. The bolt never pulls the fired shell out of the chamber. Look it up.
Danish Special Forces used the G41 when I was a kid, wish I could own guns like this here in Denmark.
Hello James, what make and model of that cute little backpack you are using? Thanks
Looks good !!!😃😃😃, How much$$??, Jf
What optic is that?
Yknow I'm guessing theyre still working on the Tooling for the original Magazines. Either way, I like this.
Maybe we can finally get a 7.62x39 on the proper one pin receiver. Building it on the over sized G3 platform killed it for me.
So a 93 and a 15 had a baby...cool concept 🤔... if I happen to find an extra 2K and want a gun that I can't get extra parts for from Midway or Brownells...I might buy it.
If they want to give me one I'll take it.
This is something I would come up with when I am watching TFBTV high.
i do want an hk93/hk33 but i understand why they chose this route. wouldnt mind having one of these with a 14.5" barrel with a keymo flash hider pinned & welded. might be a sweet shooter with a can on it.
running neck and neck against the marcolmar cetme?
PTR-63 is growing on me... May have to save up for one.
I want one of these so bad I can taste it. Here's a weird one for you what if they did something like an HK 93 or 33 but using 556 AK mags?
Roller delayed blow back guys. That’s why it’s 2000. Those aren’t cheap to manufacture. IDE love to get my hands on one.
Folding AR stock would make it sell like crazy
$1900?! There is nothing about that rifle that warrants that price IMO.
I lone PTR, but this is a no go…..I don’t want AR mags used
I reckon it is really cool that American shooters have the option to purchase an updated version of the HK G41.
