The first time I extracted the package I put everything in a folder in C:/Program Files/Moodle, and got errors telling me that the installer cannot find paths for php and database. I decided to move my Moodle folder out as a standalone folder in the C drive instead of the Program Files folder like in the video, and everything went smoothly.
This tutorial is accurate, it's just that I think you are least likely to get errors if your Moodle folder is placed directly in your drive (C:/ or D:/ or your drive of choice I mean).

I have the same problem, and no matter where I move the folder, it still give the errors of not finding paths. Any advice please? It's urgent!
Which version of Moodle do you use? Mine was 3.10
It's difficult to save without knowing the environment. My recommendation is to follow the video tutorial step by step. If it worked for me, it should work for you. Good luck!
@@reinettelouw844 I am having the same problem. No matter where I put the Moodle folder, I can't get the installation to start. I am using v. 3.11. The documentation isn't any help with this. I also experienced problems with the ports and had to change the ports for Apache & MySQL. I installed XAMPP and was able to change the ports easily on their console. I'm still having problems with the Localhost PHP. I really like the fact that you speak on the video and walk us through most of the problems.

I also wanted to add that you never should use IE for installation - it's impossible to enter password in IE and once you get to user settings you can't use Chrome or Firefox since installation need to be finished from the same IP. As workaround you can switch to MS Edge. But I spent two hours to find this workaround.

The best idea is to install a brand new platform on the web server and then upload the backup copies of the courses you have in your local installation and then restore them

Hello thank you very much for your video it is really. I had trouble with finishing the installation. Right before the administrator settings page, my apache crushed and I could not finish the installation. What can I do?
It's difficult to know what went wrong. Try reinstalling.

I could not get it to work on Window10 which has a block on writing to folders on the C drive. I tried to allow writing by changing the permissions (they were changed back), adding the user "Everyone" (no difference) and changing a setting in security, ransomeware / folder protection but with no luck. I end up using an old XP computer that I have to update my ancient course backup files to 1.9 so I can load them to 2.x to load to the 3.x and that worked.

You cannot connect your local Moodle to a Moodle site online. What you can do is create courses in your local site and then backup then and restore them in the preexisting site.
I installed it in the exact same way as you said but when I'm clicking on "start moodle " it's saying in a prompt that " the program cant be started because VCRUNTIME140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling this program to fix this problem " . What do i have to install to fix this and all the files of moodle zip nd the extracted files are downloaded and stored in disk F , so does the files being downloaded on this disk has anything to do with my trouble? And when I'm typing localhost on chrome its showing the site cant be reached and localhost refused to connect . Please let me know ASAP because i have to give a hands on on moodle on this Saturday!

You can have as many different local installations of Moodle as you like and then make a backup copy of your course, download it and restore it in another local platform.

You don't need to download anything in order to access your company's learning portal. You can access the portal just with your Internet browser. All you need is the portal URL and your username and password, which the company should provide
Does this moodle in the browser works the same as the one that is in desktop? I can't download any moodle desktop app.
It works the same, in the sense that Moodle is Moodle. However, the purpose is different. The desktop app is just another way of connecting to an external Moodle server, while the localhost installation is a personal copy of a Moodle site to ''play with''

Hi I am creating a Moodle course for my thesis so my assessor will need to log in to assess it as a user. If I host on my computer is it still possible for users to log in. I am looking for the cheapest way to set up Moodle and develop a short course that users can self enrol to. Will a local host work. @@Lindsforyahuah you can sign up for trial for 45 days free on the Moodle cloud site. If it expires Moodle customer support says you can copy what you create over to a second free account. I didn’t know how so I just purchased the starter cloud kit in the end. Maybe use Canvas?

I had a problem with this, after I update the admin profile, the page got an error that suggest me to delete every cookie inside the browser...and after do that, I still have to live with that message.

I've never had that issue. Have you tried completing the installation with a different browser?
@@EdtechFans chrome is the only browser that let me do this with problems compared to opera and firefox...looks like I'll have to reinstall everything

That email is not really necessary for a local installation, so just make sure that the email you provide is correct. This example would work: email@formymoodle.com

Yes, like we say from 5:40, you must provide a password for the database user. If you want/need to access the BD later, you'll need to remember this password. Otherwise, it's not relevant, since it's not required to enter the Moodle site itself.

Before going to localhost, make sure the Start Moodle program is starting both the Database and the server. If it doesn't, then something went wrong during the installation process. Retry.

I cannot estimate a time, since it depends on the characteristics on the computer you are using. For me it took about 5 minutes.
I have this error, Error: Database connection failed. What should I do?
For some reason, the DB is not found. If MySQL failed to open, maybe just stopping and then restarting Moodle again will solve the problem. If it still fails to connect to the DB, then the best option is to repeat the installation process from the beginning. Also make sure that the firewall or antivirus is not stopping the DB. Good luck!

A pop up window should inform you, like you see in the video. Make sure that you allow the necessary permissions for the Apache server and the DB to work.

Moodle only requires one password to access the site. The other password is for the database user, in case you want/need to manipulate the database, but it's not needed to log on the Moodle site

It depends on various factors -processor speed, number of courses, students, platform weight in Mb, etc. It can take a few hours or just minutes.

The MySQL server, which is the database program in the installation, can be started by double-clicking (executing) mysql_start.bat. This file can be found in the same folder you installed xampp in, most likely this will be C:\xampplite\. The exact path to this file is X:\xampplite\mysql_start.bat.
Use the username and password you created in the process of installation to enter the database.
