The day my mom told me that Her and my dad were separating, She had a whole fun day of three things planned for me, And then told me they were separating between the second and third thing.

What were the activities? I can imagine in that situation whatever I was doing would forever be tainted and I probably wouldn't ever want to do it again so I hope it wasn't something you really enjoyed.

My parents took me and my brother to disney world right before they told us. For years, my brother swore he would never go back because of it. This sketch hits close to home.

This sketch works because everyone has memories of their parents trying to do the right thing and somehow making things so, so much worse
This is like when I was in 3rd grade on 9/11 and the principal came in at 10am and said "something very bad has happened. Ask your parents when you get home." Truly the dumbest thing ever to allow a bunch of kids to spend 5 hours imagining the worst thing they can possibly imagine and growing more and more terrified.
Or not really trying to do the right thing... :/

The bad thing was they rented Blues Brothers 2000.
This one is a masterclass in shot framing.
Kristen's energy in this was like her work in her first few seasons in the cast. She fit in so well with this cast - such good performances, especially from JAJ. I like how Chloe Troast just appears out of nowhere too. And I like that we never hear just what the bad news is. The ending I might change a little bit but I'm still glad this got on the air.
Who is Sheila and WHAT IS THE BAD THING? You're killing me, SNL!

Things the bad thing could be:
1. Parents are getting a divorce
2. One or both are adopted
3. Mother has cancer and has only one day left to live and Sheila is going to be their new mother.
4. Father or “Big C” used to be in a gang and Sheila is coming to take the kids away as payment for him abandoning her gang.
5. The kids are going to have to choose which parent they want to live more than the other
6. Sheila is their real mother. And their father had been cheating.
Which one do you think it is? Or does anyone have other ideas on what the bad news could be?
So, in my mind, divorce is too obvious. Maybe one parent is a secret agent? One is nicknamed Big C after all

My parents got divorced on my 18th birthday. Didn't even get go karts..... No one knew it was going to happen. Went over to my great aunts and my mom was like "We got divorced this morning. Ok who wants birthday cake." I would have even let Shelia come if we could have gone to a park!

I knew the scene would stay there the whole time. Something inside me held out hope for an awkward race
Kudos to the Set Designer and Artist - I couldn't take my eyes off it for the whole sketch.
This is why im glad toysrus went out of business. Just seeing one of those big blue toy filled buildings was enough to set off my ptsd from my parents taking me there before bad news

This was a perfect solid sketch they cut to troast initially was so fun.
Someone telling you they have bad news, but won’t tell you what it is.
As a parent having tried that "pre-speech speech" several times, I can confirm it's impossible to do correctly and the harder you try to soften the blow, the worse you make it. These days I just tell my now-adult daughter directly, and it's so much better. Also, I'm gonna go nuts wondering what the bad news actually was, knowing I'll never get an answer.
