These cars are a pain in the butt. Turbo failure, internal coolant leak. One big thing you missed that kills Q50/Q60 turbos is aftermarket BOV. When I first got my Q60 three years ago, I would always see (no joke) 3-4 posts a week of blown turbos/engines on Q Facebook pages. But ever since the owner of SonicTuned made a descriptive post of how BOV kill our turbos, almost every Q owner got rid of theres, and now I RARELY see a post about blown turbos or engines. I talked to a INFINITI technician, and he also said the same thing, lack of maintenance and buying cheap parts(cheaper Chinese sensors, etc) also kills the turbos/engines.

No burbles, no flames FREQUENT OCI etc. You definitely can strike your luck if you stay on top of maintenance and don’t do anything to provoke harm on the turbos. Had a Friend with OEM engine and turbos all the way up to 117k miles tuned and BO. I’d say that’s hella life compared to the norm of the turbos. Just expect to upgrade if especially modding. The main reason i think this engine is so unreliable is for the following reasons:
    1. Hot v turbo configuration which creates alot of heat. This is bad for alot of reasons.
    2. Open deck design. Turbos cars with high boost should always have a closed deck design for strength
    3. No forged pistons or engine internals. High boost turbo cars need this.
    4. Low quality small turbos with poor hardware and design
    5. Inadequate system cooling performance
    6. Use of 0w20 oil from factory. They do this for emissions. The oil is too thin and can evaporate and Wont provide proper lubrication under load. 5w30 is best for these cars
    7. Pourous long block / crack issues.
    8. Faulty injectors
    9. Serpentine belt alignment issues
    10. Engine Valve seals leaking issues
    11. Leaking water pump
Compare this engine to a b58 and it makes sense why that engine is extremely reliable. This is pretty poor on Nissans part as the VQ was legendary for its reliability. Shame on nissan as they have the know how since the GTRs engine is reliable. The q50 has become a warranty car. This is why infiniti is failing as a brand. Once im done with my VQ q50 im switching to another brand.
The VR will not survive high mileage use like the VQ. This sucks

Lmao No BaCkPrEsSuRe get the F out of here hahaha.
Full downpipes will set an emissions code without a tune. It could possibly allow a boost spike in the midrange, but the engine is gonna go in to limp mode long before that happens.
      You are so ignorant

It's called a turbo timer. It's like a lost piece of advice or technology.

Turbo timer on my Neon srt4 was essential, back in the day.

    • @irunxboxlive916

you just need to change teh oil every 3k, dont need a turbo timer

    • @OxBlitzkriegxO
      @OxBlitzkriegxO 3 місяці тому

Useless for any newer turbo car as timers were only ever needed for engines without water-cooled turbos.

I just bought a CPO 2017 Q50 premium AWD 75600 miles that was traded in at a local dealership because the turbo seals were leaking. It was too expensive of a repair for them. They listed it at 17k with all repairs done as part of the deal. They did breaks/tires and other repairs including minor body issues. With my trade/ $ down purchased for $15600. I feel like I got a steal. I plan on taking care of the new turbos by simply changing the oil every 3to5k, checking my antifreeze levels and starting the car for a couple of minutes before departure then waiting 30+seconds to cool down. Hopefully this will extend their life.
