As a kid growing up in the Bronx, the only wild animals i saw were in cages at the zoo. Now I live in the Georgia mountains and I'm in the cage and the bears come up to our home and look at us. I love it!
Cool video. We have black bears (sometimes with cubs) come through our property. Mostly, they just toss our trash cans and move on. If you don't mess with them, they usually don't mess with you. A few times, bears have managed to get inside peoples' vehicles and not be able to get out. I never would have imagined how a bear can destroy the inside of a vehicle, but it's pretty remarkable. To get them out, either someone opens the door and runs away, or a window is shattered and allows the bear to escape.
buster 53546 I watched a video of a female black bear chase a male up a tree to defend her cub. One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. It didn't try to attack or anything. It was just lying there on the hood just hanging out with us and being friendly, like it was saying "howdy, folks. How y'all doing?" The next morning, we woke up and the bear was gone. So we got out of the car to wake up and stretch our arms and legs and continued the rest of our vacation time there.

While black bear attacks are rare, they do happen and sometimes they are completely unprovoked. Experts advise those attacked by grizzlies to play dead, but if a black bear attacks you, they say *not* to play dead, but to fight back with everything you’ve got. Why? Because when black bears do attack without provocation, they are most likely doing so with the intention of eating you! Wild animals, especially predators are not “cute”; they are not pets; even the omnivores can kill you, and their behavior is unpredictable. Last year, a teenage boy who was asleep at his campsite near my neighborhood (in a western state) was woken up by a crunching sound; that sound was a black bear biting down on the boy’s skull - NOT kidding! His friends fought the bear off and luckily he made a full recovery. Bottom line - admire them from a safe distance and be prepared with bear spray when you hike. No degree of familiarity with people will guarantee that a bear will not attack. I’ve never had a bear encounter turn dangerous, but it only takes once.
Where did you stay? We go to Gatlinburg every year during summer and we always book cabins through Mountain Laurel Chalets. We've been fortunate and have seen bears at every cabin we've rented through MLC, with the exception of Blue Mist, because we went during the winter. (Sadly, Blue Mist was burned to the ground during the wild fires.) The cabin in the video is called Le Rendezvous. I had read that there was a lot of bear activity up there, and we found it to be true. We saw bears every single day, and usually more than once per day. There was even a mother bear who came by with three cubs one morning. It seemed to have a reputation, too. We ordered a pizza one night and the deliver driver wouldn't get out of her car, so I went down to get the pizza. When she opened her door she began glancing nervously around. She said, "I don't like coming out here. We call this the 'bear cabin'."
All fun and games until you on the porch sipping some whisky and a bear cub falls out the tree into your lap!..lol...all jokes aside great vid/experience.
You know it!!! I have a playlist for our yearly (sometimes more) Gatlinburg trips, and A Boy Named Sue is at the top of that list. The first time my daughter heard me sing it (she was really young), she asked, "Does it really say Gatlinburg in the song???"

You all are so fortunate to get to see this. I haven't seen a bear the past few times I've been to Gatlinburg.
BJ Bourg. What cabin was this
Tracy Mitchell, Le Rendezvous, which was booked through Mountain Laurel Chalets.
BJ Bourg Thank You So Much For Sharing This, It Was A Beautiful Sight To See. Especially When The Baby Bear Climb The Tree.
If I go to the Smokies, I want to go to Firefly Lodge-Elk Springs Resort. Are there a lot of bears over there?
you sure she's not the building inspector? she's scoping the place far better than the inspector on our job right now
All fun and games until you on the porch sipping some whisky and a bear cub falls out the tree into your lap!..lol...all jokes aside great vid/experience.
...Or you get hit by bear scat, when they are in the tree..
That porch is hers. You built it in her home .
You really can’t blame them. It was Gatlinburg in mid-July, they just hit town and their throats were dry... 😉
You know it!!! I have a playlist for our yearly (sometimes more) Gatlinburg trips, and A Boy Named Sue is at the top of that list. The first time my daughter heard me sing it (she was really young), she asked, "Does it really say Gatlinburg in the song???"
Momma and baby are sooo cute!
Loved it. Great video!
