I understand that some skills are transferable to higher competition. I would much rather the guy fight a couple of guys in the top 15 before he fights Cory. He hasn't even managed to do that yet. He shouldn't be leap frogging all of these people to Cory.

Cory really is already proven don’t think he needs to beat umar or Merab or whoever. Just look at his resume since he’s been in the ufc. Lost to sterling who later became champ, arguably beat tj and lost to Yan on short notice and shutdown everyone else including koing moraes when he was ranked #1

Book Umar next or fight Merab for #1 title contender
Umar would be the better match up to get out of the way first, while Merab is a bit of a rougher one who is essentially a better Aljo . His best case for the title is beating Umar first, and then Merab looses to Chito/Sean and Cory can put away Chito/Sean. Worst case is he beats Merab and has to fight a champion Umar because Sean is probably not beating Umar, and Chito is absolutely not beating Umar.
Dana said Merab gets the next shot and I believe him this time, so Cory vs. Umar makes sense to me :)

I think:
1. Ilia's haters are not prepared for what Ilia can achieve.
2. People in general do not realize how great acutually Topuria is.
Emmett was a really tough figther and was going to kill Topuria until Ilia fucked him up and Emmett magically became an old man who needed to retire because he was useless.
Volkanovski was a dinosaur, a legend that Ilia was never going to beat, until Ilia brutally knock him out in the second round and he again became an old man who needed to retire.
What will be the excuse if Ilia beats Makhachev?

I guess I was making a wider point about how refreshing it is that Sean pivoted from a premature champ-champ fight to actually fighting the contenders in the division (when many champs don't these days). One of my first questions was if it was in Cory's best interest for Sean or Chito to win, so I promise I didn't mean to infer that Sean had already won
