  • Campbell Martin shares his story as a current Peace Corps Volunteer in the Gambia, where he works closely in education with his counterparts in and out of the classroom. Get a glimpse into Martin’s day-to-day life as he integrates into his community, spends time with his host family, and breaks down gender stereotypes. Stay tuned until the end where Martin’s parents, Reed and Jane, give their perspective on staying in contact with Martin as he continues to serve in 2023.
Campbell Martin applied for the Peace Corps in January 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no Volunteers in the field, Peace Corps Campus Recruiter and NPCA Board Member, Jeffrey Janis (Ukraine 2004-06), encouraged him to wait for a position once the Peace Corps reopened in-person service. After graduating from UCLA in 2021, Martin took a job in Florida for a year, and in March 2022 he was told by Peace Corps headquarters that he was going to The Gambia the following June. Martin’s story is a microcosm of how the Peace Corps is back in full force with 1,200 Volunteers and trainees now serving in 51 countries around the world.
