Easiest way to use the kit, build as a mid Jan 43 G from Nibelungen factory. Fill the signal port on the additional roof armor, use the split hatch cupola and the smoke discharges. For an example see page 40 PzKpfw IV at the front UPDATE No3 Factory production guide (G) by Craig Ellis.
Privater Account it’s easiest to build the kit as a mid-production G (Sept 42-Jan 43), so all fender holes are used for lights and the spare wheel bin. Any later an you must fill in the signal port on the roof as you mention.
Privater Account the F2/G kit? I didn’t know that ever included the uparmoured turret. I know it comes with the later G kit and (incorrectly) with the first boxing of the Ausf F kit... 🤔
Privater Account yes, sorry. You’re commenting on the F1 review. 😀 The uparmoured roof (along with the uparmoured cupola with the 1-piece cupola hatch) wasn’t introduced until later in Ausf G production (around April 1942), so can’t be used on an Ausf F unfortunately.
I built (half built!) their previous pz iv and I loved it, but I did build the new tool Academy pziv and StuG IV and loved those too. Both manufacturers have done some fantastic and clever moulding but in both cases I've thought "why the hell did they do that"......as in the border hubs and the academy lack of sponsons! And a few other things I cannae remember now. Oh, and I'm surprised you never mentioned the hubcaps being moulded on. So you don't really get the undercut relief as on the real vehicles but I don't think it detracts from the model, but was just a strange decision imho.
You would have to replace the turret, fenders and barrel cleaning rods from the Dragon smart kit! That is too much or scratch build the parts yourself. Thanks Bruce for pointing it out.
A truly excellent review, thank you so much, I learned a whole lot from this review, I have this kit + the replacement turret sent out by Border which was a great piece of customer care on they're part and I'm looking in to replacing the barrel cleaning rods, if anyone has any idea where to obtain a set please let me know, just received Border's F2 & G as well so may have a go at building both at the same time, thanks again.

@@philray8297 I didn't contact Border for the replacement turret another UK ML member did and as far as I am aware all the replacement turrets shipped to the UK have been taken up already.....Bruce contacted Border and did have a few delivered to North America , I have no idea if he still has them, the good news is Tamiya have announced an upcoming release of the Pz Kpfw IV Ausf F1 themselves which does have the correct turret and the two piece barrel cleaning rods.

The additional roof armor strip i think is the problem. My kit has still the wrong turret.

Would you reccomend this over the Dragon kits? I dont have any F's for my collection yet.
