Chungking Express (重庆森林) [literally "Chungking Forest"] directed by: Wong Kar-wai
Music: Beach House - Space Song
Lyrics:
"It was late at night
You held on tight
From an empty seat
A flash of light
It will take a while
To make you smile
Somewhere in these eyes
I'm on your side
You wide-eyed girls
You get it right
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Tender is the night
For a broken heart
Who will dry your eyes
When it falls apart
What makes this fragile world go round?
Were you ever lost?
Was she ever found?
Somewhere in these eyes
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall back into place
Fall…"

"We split up on April Fool's Day; so I decided to let the joke run for a month.
Every day i buy a can of pineapple with a sell-by date of May 1.
May loves pineapple, and May 1 is my birthday.
If May hasn't changed her mind by the time i've bought thirty cans, then our love will also expire".
Damn😭

Heyy, I got to know the channel a short time ago... I would like a suggestion for the next video.

Wong Kar Wai just hits different when you having an existential crisis
asian cinema is soooo underrated in the west, the world is missing on such beautiful stories...
Something that was fascinating for me about Chungking Express (aside from being a masterpiece of a movie, of course) was that the soundtrack features a cover version of a Cocteau Twins song by Fay Wong ( I have read this somewhere, but to be honest didn't notice when I watched it, so this could be wrong). I've been a fan of this Scottish band for more than 30 years, and, as one of the progenitors of the 'dream pop' genre, they were also a big influence on Beach House. So this aligns really nicely with your video!
Fay Wong also recorded a couple of Cocteau Twins songs and later collaborated with them on her ‘Fuzao’ album from 1996, which is well worth a listen!
The Hong Kong / Scotland connection also continued for Takeshi with 'Lost and Found' starring Kelly Chan. I really loved this movie! (Saw it for the first time yesterday only). Hong Kong cinema truly is the best ♥
This is the kind of comments that i absolutely love! 💙
@@Clarencito I can sense from the love and care given to your edits you have a strong passion for both cinema and music. I've been forever music-obsessed, but only recently discovered HK cinema (via a deep dive into the Wuxia genre). Just when I thought Asian cinema can't get any better, I find there is always more to discover. Are there any lesser-known movies with a similar tone to 'Chungking Express' or 'Lost and Found' you would recommend? (aside from Fallen Angels, Ashes of Time, In the Mood for Love, and 2046, which are obviously next on my list).
P.S: I believe a movie that would provide great material for one of your edits would be "If Cats Disappeared from the World" (Japan, 2016)
@@CaropBec on the top of my head I'll say "Made in Hong Kong" by Fruit Chan.
But there are a lot of great movies to discover; maybe you should try something by Edward Yang (Taipei Story, Yi Yi, A Brighter Summer Day) you can find videos for all of them on my channel, even though it is in fact taiwanese cinema ✌️
@@Clarencito Thanks for the recommendations, will be sure to check those out!

@@Clarencito that's really amazing. keep going!
amazing editing!!

What alternate reality have i entered and how do I leave
C’est bellisimo mi amor
Your work is remarkable and definitely knows how to further enhance the authentic cinematography of WKW. Outside of this, there is something I was wondering. Do you allow people to borrow pieces of your videos in order to create montages themselves? There is something fascinating about the way you render the images, an aesthetic that captivates more than anything I have seen elsewhere, which is why I would like to be inspired by it. On the other hand, I would totally understand that you refuse because I suspect that these projects must require a lot of effort and that all the credit goes to his successor, right?
Whatever your answer is, I just wanted to thank you for making us travel the time of a few minutes, nights seems less lonely then (almost like a therapy lol)
Anyway, continue in this beautiful journey, much love
First of all thank you for your kind words, glad that you like my edits this much. 💙
And yes, achieving this picture quality requires a bit of work and most of all a lot of rendering time 😅 (for instance this video took 2 separate rendering for a total of 4,5 hours and resulted in a 11gb file, which for a 5min youtube vid it's borderline mental 😂).
So yes, maybe it isn't the nicest thing when someone just take it and reupload it; but, that said, i can't really avoid this to happen, as i don't own the rights of neither the picture or the music.
But i would still not recommend you to do that if what you are looking for is picture quality and inspiration, mainly for two reasons:
1- (picture quality): youtube codec already squashes the picture quality by itself (the original file is waaaaay better looking than this); so when you download a video from here, then re-render it and reupload it, you'll get a picture quality nowhere near the original.
2- (inspiration): the soul of an edit lives in the cuts: you (as the editor) decide when and how to cut, how to combine colors and motion with music and so on. If you use as a base for your edit my video, you'll be limited in your choice options by the ones i've already made.
What i can strongly suggest you instead is starting from scratch, and work on your edit (hours and hours) until it becomes your own thing; it's 100x time more rewarding, i can assure you that.
I can also suggest you a couple of things i do that can let you achieve this picture quality:
1. first of all you need a really good quality file (the bigger the better, link for the bluray in description); then you need to convert it at the hightest possible quality your pc can take
2. i try to always render my videos in 4K; that's because youtube codec is real crap, but if you upload a 4K file it tends to mantain a better picture quality overall than standard 1080p video
3. you can use a bit of trickery with Premiere Pro to enhance video quality (like adding bit of contrast mask and a clean HDR; i also use neat video -> it's an effect you have to buy separately, useful when you need to polish the picture and so on)
4. all of this require a qood editing pc, the lower is your cpu the longer will take to convert files and render them
Good luck with your edits, and most of all have fun with them
@@Clarencito Thank you so much for all your advices, it really encourages me to pursue editing. And yeah you're right, I also do believe that each editor's videos have their own vibes through the personal editing. That's why I felt kind of concerned to think about this idea. Thanks again, have a nice day 💚 Looking forward to see more of your work!
@@Clarencito hello :) you only use adobe premiere pro in terms of application? unfortunatly i can't afford the blu-rays version, so do you think it will still be good enough to have good quality? thank you for all your amazing work and can't wait to see more
@@station57m65 yes, i use only Premiere. Regarding the video files, i know they can get expensive, but often Amazon makes some great deals/offers (for instance 5 bluray for 25 euro). Or you can try to go on pre-owned market.
Let's try to show our support to cinema while it is still alive ✌️
I am really discouraged by the fact that people aren't getting the message of the first novel and do repeatedly share Takeshi Kaneshiro's lines
what do you mean?
Agreed please enlighten us
Why must you hurt me in this way?
💙💙💙
What is the name of this movie?
The movie is called "Chungking Express"
Ps: In the description you can find all the info you need. There's also the Amazon's link if you want to buy it ✌️
what happend to the Asian guy in the end?
Hey, so the movie is divided into 2 parts the first story this, the guy feels lonely cus his girlfriend dumped him (also he runs to stop himself from crying and eats pineapples cus that was his ex's favourite). So he goes to a bar where he meet the blonde woman, they sit quietly and drink until they get wasted, after which they part their ways. He still feels lonely and no one calls him even on his birthday until he gets one message from her. This makes him smile after which the story ends.
the second part focuses on different people.
@@gursimarsingh7980 Thank u so much.
