I'm a White Sox fan, and while I don't remember this, I do remember when he went into the stands and punched a fan in Milwaukee. He was really intense and probably would be more appreciated now because of his high OBP.
Seems like my 1st marriage. Literally called an attorney to start the divorce...called the next day "nevermind" That legit happened with me and my ex quite a few times. (And yes I had to pay the lawyer each time) Except the final time as he said "no charge. I didn't even start the paperwork. I knew you guys would change your mind by the next day".
I remember Tony Phillips more as an A's and the Angels still remember seeing him punching out a Red Sox Catcher on KTLA. If Baseball Hall Of Fane was like Pro Football Phillips would be in by now
Phillips was a hard nosed player. Always played hard. I actually completely forgot he retired for one day. He set the table, and yes he got in to his dust ups with players and umps. It was his competitiveness that made him the player he was.
How about the strangest number retirement in White Sox history? I find it really odd they retired Harold Baines number so soon and in the middle of his career! Could you do a video on that?
Potentially getting divorce graped a second time, that'll do it. Cheaper to keep her at that point. Yet he still played pro ball to age 56 after a 10 year retirement.
This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 7/9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about Former Falcons Receiver Wallace Francis, who announced he was happy to be playing for the Patriots (who just signed him after the Falcons released him), then retired the next day.
I'm a little curious as to how much paperwork the front office went through for this. If Phillips came back before the necessary retirement paperwork was filed, was he ever really retired?
Tony Phillips was perhaps the most intense baseball player I ever saw. I remember him as an Angel and Blue Jay. I don't remember him with the Mets though. Anyways, that was certainly an odd retirement but at least it was for a good reason. Seems like it was an overreaction to some marital problems. Seeing as he had one failed marriage I can see why he acted like he did. Anywho, he'd be very much appreciated today though maybe not with the fisticuffs though!
i bet his wife claimed be loved baseball more than family, so he retired. but then his wife was like wait the money...ohhhh baby you do care please keep playing baseball baby please 😂
He pulled a George Costanza
White Sox: “Am I crazy. Or didn’t you quit yesterday?”
Phillips: “Oh what…that? You took that seriously!” 😅
Larry David based that escapade of George's on an incident in which he himself did that in 1984 while writing for Saturday Night Live. 🤣

Tony was one of the greatest utility players ever, and could play almost anywhere.
He was my favorite in the early 90s!
Great content bro! Subscribed to all your channels from México 💪🔥💯
Tony Phillips definitely belongs in "The Hall of the Very Good"... not a Hall of Famer, but he was a DAMN good player.
In 1996, White Sox Spring Training was still in Sarasota, FL... they didn't go to Arizona until 1998.
Least he didn’t pull a Tom Brady
Tony Phillips was one of the most underrated players in baseball. Solid hitter and very under appreciated player too.

LMAO
The best hitter never to make a All Star game.
Totally agree. Vastly underrated career.
Too bad it wasn’t on April 1. That’s what Sam Wyche would have done

Leave to Guillen to show he has no filter around reporters.

Not gonna lie, I thought this was gonna be about Yermin Mercedes from a couple years ago
RIP Tony Phillips.

Tony pulled a Krusty
or a Sinatra
First White Sox video and it was a good one, too!!!
That he lasted in MLB as long as he lasted is an accomplishment. Not a bad player!
Geez seems like he killed the Rangers for years. One of those guys on the other teams that was a pain in the ass to face. Really admired his game.
As a Tigers fan, I always liked him. A pretty good hitter who could play almost anywhere.
Saw just the title and thought it’d be about yermin mercedes lol
Why did I think this video was going to be about Yermin Mercedes

Didn't Steve Carlton do something similar with the Giants, then came back with the White Sox a few days later in the 1980s?
So underrated
