You should definitely try some of Starbucks' non-coffee items! I hate coffee of all kinds, but I'm mildly addicted to Starbucks' Pink Drink (it's a strawberry, acai, and coconut milk mix); they have more than just coffee 😁 Maybe even try their food items; for instance, their grilled cheese is one of the best fast food grilled cheeses I've ever had.
Dermot is like my mom, no matter how little coffee is in the drink, it can’t be disguised. With her, there was no such thing as sweet coffee. She always tasted the bitter and sweet as two separate things.
Biggest mistake here was cold brew so late in the game. Starbucks cold brew at its best has really good cocoa notes that I gotta think were completely lost after having something so sweet just prior.
@@SilvaDreams I hear you. I don’t like much of their coffee but I actually do like their cold brew specifically because the process suppresses some of the acidic notes and does lend to a much creamier cocoa mouthfeel.
I can't really drink most of what Starbucks offers, thanks to T1 diabetes, and the fact that the syrups hit my bloodstream much faster than my body can absorb an insulin bolus to cover the carbs in their smallest size. The only thing I really can order from them without too much damage to my daily BG control is their cold brew, or a very small skim milk latte. In the U.S., most Starbucks places only have two kinds of sugar-free syrups (vanilla and caramel - they got rid of all of their other sugar-free options a couple of years ago, probably to cut down on costs and speed up the line of cars at the drive-thru window). It's a good thing that I've learned to prefer straight black coffee, but sometimes I wish I could taste something like a PSL, or a mocha frappuchino without feeling absolutely sick afterwards from hyperglycemia.

I'm with Dermot. I've never had a cup, glass, bottle, or whatever of coffee in my life. I've taken sips here and there to Try different types, but BLEH! I do enjoy the aroma, but can't stand the taste. The most I've ever had and didn't want to barf was Turkish Coffee. BTW, Frappuccinos do in fact contain coffee, so...not sure why they told Dermot otherwise...unless THAT specific one does not. My last girlfriend (RIP) used to get caramel iced cappuccino supremes from Tim Horton ywice a day, and would have them just LOAD it up with caramel (so much so that they kept running out every week, lol) and she would scoop out the caramel with her fingers and eat the cramel that way. Most people who are really in to coffee drink coffee. Not Lattes/ Frappuccinos or basically all of the American sugary drinks with a splash of coffee in it. Starbuck coffee tastes like they burned the beans, always has in my experience, but thats mainly cuz they're so big they don't really care. Peets broke off from Starbucks because they cared about their beans more. Dunkin Donuts makes GREAT espresso, their coffee tastes watered down though

I am a fan of the cold brew, but I live in Seattle and there are plenty of great coffee producers. Starbucks is the fast food equivalent of the coffee shops here. Also, I will eat a bag of chocolate covered coffee/espresso beans because I love coffee. Bonus fact, 100% Cacao chocolate tastes much more like coffee than your standard chocolate bar.

I was given a booklet of calories, sugars, and fats of fast food places when I became diabetic. The fast food places were in order of the worst in the market to the least harmful. Starbucks was #1 as THE WORST in calories and sugars. Extremely high calories, and at least 300% more sugar than any human is supposed to have in one item. Which was fine for me, because they aren't that good, and I'm not paying $5.00 or more for .50 CENTS worth of coffee!!
Most restaurants, really. It's no surprise when restaurant food is celebration food. Salt, fat, sugar: it's all too wonderful. Good thing natural foods can taste good, taste clean.
Diabetic also here. I just add straight heavy cream to my coffee. Unfortunately without sugar it really highlights bad coffee. I find fresh gas station coffee better than any Starbucks. And that's not that great. I usually either make it at home or go to a nice self owned place that specializes in espressos. Too many coffee places are too much like Starbucks.

Worked in IT for years, nightshift and loved the smell of coffee at night. The companies all had free coffee and pots to get through the night was the thing. The would leave in the a.m. go home and sleep like a baby! I love coffee and totally adore Starbucks.

There are two major appeals of Starbucks, here in The States. One is the wide variety of drinks. The other is that their coffee is CAFFEINATED, and the Cold Brew lives up to that. Their Nitro Cold Brew has a smoother, almost frothy taste to it. Really good!
"Boys, were gonna have diarhea!" make me laugh way harder and way louder than is socially acceptable. All the other wi-fi leeches in this Starbucks looked at me like I was The Joker. There's a "competitor" of Starbucks called Scooters, and they have a Peanut Butter Mocha that is like drinking a highly caffinated Reese's peanut butter cup. Dermot should give that a try. LOL!!!!!

I really don't get the Starbucks hype. They tried to happen in my city (in Australia), lasted 6 months and closed down because everyone hated their 'coffee'
They had hype in like, 1995. Now they have enough market share they functionally control territory by undercutting Mom & Pop places with substandard goods, like every other fast food place. They just refuse to look like a fast food place, so you're fooled the first time you go in. Personally I just go to donut shops, they don't pretend to be anything but what they are.

I discovered the best Starbucks combo earlier today. Get a mocha frappucino with one pump of cinnamon syrup and one almond syrup. It's like Christmas in summer, except I don't hate it.

for some one that isn't a huge coffee fan, i can understand both sides of the coin. a lot of people need coffee to function. for me i like Tim Horton Ice Caps. to me the freezing of the coffee somehow tastes a bit sweet to me and cuts the bitterness. i also love an Ice Coffee brand of drink. it comes in a 2 liter container and i can drink that in an hour or two easily which is $5-$6 to buy at our grocery store
I have to side with Dermot on this. I get a lot of crap for how much milk and sugar I put in mine, because I hate the taste of coffee. I drink it for the effect, and all the sugar I add increases the effect. Also, there is no way I would ever pay what Starbucks ask for a cup of coffee.

I absolutely love coffee black two sugars, but I do understand Dermot, there are things that give me the same reaction, hummus, sushi, salads, tofu, green beans, liver wurst and durian.

I love the smell of fresh roasted beans being ground, and coffee brewing (especially in an old-timey percolator on the stove) but, for the life of me, I feel deceived by the flavor of straight up black coffee. I would generally describe it as licking the inside of a very full ashtray. So, yes, I resort to dolling up my cup of joe because that smell and that warm mug in my hands is comforting and soothing. Starbucks provides a "safe" option for getting the flavor combination that I want, as well as a lovely slice of pumpkin bread or banana bread to give me additional tasty comfort foods.
I just made some cold brew coffee yesterday and it has been 24 hours before I strain it. You usually can add stuff to it, like coffee syrups or powdered style sugars, fake or real. All so use the cold brewed coffee and make ice ice cubes from it. It is really good during hot mornings and afternoons here in New Mexico. Plus with cold brewed coffee, you get almost triple the amount of caffeine.
Coffee makes you stupid until you have your first cup or three. I never required the taste so I kept my intelligence. To give you an example: I worked for a company that was trying a coffee service. At first, you had to put water in a carafe and pour it into the top of the machine. The employees loved the coffee so they had a plumber hard plumb it into the water system. One day the water main broke next to the building. I get to work to find all these idiots standing around the coffee machine crying not knowing what to do. I walk in take the carafe and fill it from the water cooler(fed by 5 gal bottles) lift the lid and pour it in and push the brew button. I was the company hero that day. The machine didn't change so I wasn't sure why these idiots couldn't figure it out.

I can't really drink most of what Starbucks offers, thanks to T1 diabetes, and the fact that the syrups hit my bloodstream much faster than my body can absorb an insulin bolus to cover the carbs in their smallest size. The only thing I really can order from them without too much damage to my daily BG control is their cold brew, or a very small skim milk latte. In the U.S., most Starbucks places only have two kinds of sugar-free syrups (vanilla and caramel - they got rid of all of their other sugar-free options a couple of years ago, probably to cut down on costs and speed up the line of cars at the drive-thru window). It's a good thing that I've learned to prefer straight black coffee, but sometimes I wish I could taste something like a PSL, or a mocha frappuchino without feeling absolutely sick afterwards from hyperglycemia.
@@leeblount7046 I grew up in the Northeast, we drink iced coffee in the middle of winter and in my home state of Rhode Island we even have coffee milk. (Think chocolate milk only made with real coffee syrup)

I'm with Dermot. I've never had a cup, glass, bottle, or whatever of coffee in my life. I've taken sips here and there to Try different types, but BLEH! I do enjoy the aroma, but can't stand the taste. The most I've ever had and didn't want to barf was Turkish Coffee. BTW, Frappuccinos do in fact contain coffee, so...not sure why they told Dermot otherwise...unless THAT specific one does not. My last girlfriend (RIP) used to get caramel iced cappuccino supremes from Tim Horton ywice a day, and would have them just LOAD it up with caramel (so much so that they kept running out every week, lol) and she would scoop out the caramel with her fingers and eat the cramel that way. It was hilarious to see. 3 years on, still very much missed. ~Be Blessed
I was at Amsterdam airport waiting to go home. A lady said I can't wait to get a real coffee. Everything tastes burnt here. I wondered if she was referring to Starbucks and the milkshakes they serve.

Most people who are really in to coffee drink coffee. Not Lattes/ Frappuccinos or basically all of the American sugary drinks with a splash of coffee in it. Starbuck coffee tastes like they burned the beans, always has in my experience, but thats mainly cuz they're so big they don't really care. Peets broke off from Starbucks because they cared about their beans more. Dunkin Donuts makes GREAT espresso, their coffee tastes watered down though

ALL starbucks coffee tastes burnt because the beans are over roasted. SHIT coffee. Better coffee, take your favorite coffee and brew it with a french press. Even cheap coffee like maxwell house or folgers.

I am a fan of the cold brew, but I live in Seattle and there are plenty of great coffee producers. Starbucks is the fast food equivalent of the coffee shops here.
Also, I will eat a bag of chocolate covered coffee/espresso beans because I love coffee.
Bonus fact, 100% Cacao chocolate tastes much more like coffee than your standard chocolate bar.
I'm on a 50/50 with Dermot on this one, I love coffee, but keep the starbucks a long way away from me. ;)

I was given a booklet of calories, sugars, and fats of fast food places when I became diabetic.
The fast food places were in order of the worst in the market to the least harmful.
Starbucks was #1 as THE WORST in calories and sugars. Extremely high calories, and at least 300% more sugar than any human is supposed to have in one item.
Which was fine for me, because they aren't that good, and I'm not paying $5.00 or more for .50 CENTS worth of coffee!!
Most restaurants, really. It's no surprise when restaurant food is celebration food. Salt, fat, sugar: it's all too wonderful. Good thing natural foods can taste good, taste clean.

Diabetic also here. I just add straight heavy cream to my coffee. Unfortunately without sugar it really highlights bad coffee. I find fresh gas station coffee better than any Starbucks. And that's not that great. I usually either make it at home or go to a nice self owned place that specializes in espressos. Too many coffee places are too much like Starbucks.

@@MartinEB72 I actually still prefer 7-11's coffee over all other publicly sold coffee's. I've never had a bitter cup of coffee from any 7-11. But thats just me. Plus, they have a variety of sweeteners as well. So I can put some Sweet N Low or Stevia in my coffee if I want. Hell, some 7-11's even have honey packets!! Mainly for teas, but still..........

Worked in IT for years, nightshift and loved the smell of coffee at night. The companies all had free coffee and pots to get through the night was the thing. The would leave in the a.m. go home and sleep like a baby! I love coffee and totally adore Starbucks.

There are two major appeals of Starbucks, here in The States. One is the wide variety of drinks. The other is that their coffee is CAFFEINATED, and the Cold Brew lives up to that. Their Nitro Cold Brew has a smoother, almost frothy taste to it. Really good!

There's a "competitor" of Starbucks called Scooters, and they have a Peanut Butter Mocha that is like drinking a highly caffinated Reese's peanut butter cup. Dermot should give that a try. LOL!!!!!

I agree with Dermot, I'm definitely not a coffee person. I like the smell, but it tastes horrible! I can even taste the coffee if it was a drop in a whole cup of syrup.

I really don't get the Starbucks hype. They tried to happen in my city (in Australia), lasted 6 months and closed down because everyone hated their 'coffee'
Agree with you 100 percent. I like a simple black coffee in the morning, my wife enjoys tea. Why pay for some over hyped drink that taste like crap.

They had hype in like, 1995. Now they have enough market share they functionally control territory by undercutting Mom & Pop places with substandard goods, like every other fast food place. They just refuse to look like a fast food place, so you're fooled the first time you go in. Personally I just go to donut shops, they don't pretend to be anything but what they are.
Ive heard that in Australia the flat white is super popular and Starbucks never really did a good job on them. Anywhere that isnt sugar addicted probably wont be a fan of Starbucks drinks.
Yeah… I’m here in the states where Starbucks is big and I don’t really see it, either. My wife brings it home once in a while, I drink it and that’s fine, but I don’t go out of my way to buy it myself. To me it’s just coffee.

I discovered the best Starbucks combo earlier today. Get a mocha frappucino with one pump of cinnamon syrup and one almond syrup. It's like Christmas in summer, except I don't hate it.

for some one that isn't a huge coffee fan, i can understand both sides of the coin. a lot of people need coffee to function. for me i like Tim Horton Ice Caps. to me the freezing of the coffee somehow tastes a bit sweet to me and cuts the bitterness. i also love an Ice Coffee brand of drink. it comes in a 2 liter container and i can drink that in an hour or two easily which is $5-$6 to buy at our grocery store
Ask for an Ice Capp made with chocolate milk. An absolute treat.

I have to side with Dermot on this. I get a lot of crap for how much milk and sugar I put in mine, because I hate the taste of coffee. I drink it for the effect, and all the sugar I add increases the effect. Also, there is no way I would ever pay what Starbucks ask for a cup of coffee.
pro tip: if you're purely in it for the effect, get caffeine pills/alertness pills. literally just the caffeine, swallow it in one go, way cheaper

I'm with Dermot. Don't understand coffee. It doesn't taste "good" to me. It always tastes too strong and bitter But oddly, I LOVE tea. for me, one is really good and one is really not good. I'm with Dermot here. Even those frappa mocha things that are basically chocolate shakes would still be better without the coffee in them.

I absolutely love coffee black two sugars, but I do understand Dermot, there are things that give me the same reaction, hummus, sushi, salads, tofu, green beans, liver wurst and durian.

This is absolute proof Dermot is my spirit animal. He has captured my feelings on coffee.
I love the smell of fresh roasted beans being ground, and coffee brewing (especially in an old-timey percolator on the stove) but, for the life of me, I feel deceived by the flavor of straight up black coffee. I would generally describe it as licking the inside of a very full ashtray. So, yes, I resort to dolling up my cup of joe because that smell and that warm mug in my hands is comforting and soothing.
Starbucks provides a "safe" option for getting the flavor combination that I want, as well as a lovely slice of pumpkin bread or banana bread to give me additional tasty comfort foods.

I just made some cold brew coffee yesterday and it has been 24 hours before I strain it. You usually can add stuff to it, like coffee syrups or powdered style sugars, fake or real. All so use the cold brewed coffee and make ice ice cubes from it. It is really good during hot mornings and afternoons here in New Mexico. Plus with cold brewed coffee, you get almost triple the amount of caffeine.
Coffee makes you stupid until you have your first cup or three. I never required the taste so I kept my intelligence.
To give you an example: I worked for a company that was trying a coffee service. At first, you had to put water in a carafe and pour it into the top of the machine. The employees loved the coffee so they had a plumber hard plumb it into the water system. One day the water main broke next to the building. I get to work to find all these idiots standing around the coffee machine crying not knowing what to do. I walk in take the carafe and fill it from the water cooler(fed by 5 gal bottles) lift the lid and pour it in and push the brew button. I was the company hero that day.
The machine didn't change so I wasn't sure why these idiots couldn't figure it out.
