    It's looking great! Our family toured the Greenhouse in the Snow last month. We are starting our plans for our greenhouse! It's fun to see your progress.

      Good update, I wanted to see if you were going to have any of the trees planted into the ground or just in pots so I was happy to see you did put some directly in the ground.

    If you have never allowed the artichoke to bloom, go ahead and keep some blossoms on. They are phenomenal.

    Thank you for the details that you keep providing for us. I reached out earlier this summer. We are building a 90 ft greenhouse in Manti and wondering if I would be able to visit with you in a more details that are beyond the instruction manual. We are at the framing stage. Let me know if that would be possible. Thank you. Jeff

    Really enjoy the journey. Trout? Is it cold enough? Will you need to use some kind of cooling for the water? I forgot to ask what elevation your at.
    Thank you again for videoing your green house.

      Springville elevation is about 4600'. Water temperature is an issue. I need to do frequent water changes during Summer. I've also got some plans to do a better job keeping the GH cooler this Summer.

    I'm in the middle of designing my greenhouse. I'm thinking about doubling the tubes in the main grow area. What would you change about the instructions for the tube system if you were starting over?

    • @trailbreakfarms
      @trailbreakfarms  3 роки тому +2

      I think that is a good idea. You just need an extra blower to circulate the extra air. I have been considering adding more pipes coming out of the suction room because I have fans that look for more air than they can draw from the 12 pipes I have.

      @@trailbreakfarms What size are your Squirrel fans? HP, fan diameter model#, etc would help. Good to hear the tube advice. A winter recap video of estimated energy costs, temperatures, etc would be great if you get time.

  • @Keasbeysknight
    @Keasbeysknight 3 роки тому +1

    I dont recall the video, but i believe youre onto something with your floor to ceiling circulation. in the winter you bring the hot air at the ceiling to the floor and in the summer you bring the cold floor air to the top and exhaust the top air. Also, i wonder if you could get a temp reading on your water heat sinks in the day and then at night, i know houses built like this use concrete or stone floors to act as a thermal battery, but that would ruin your mulch floor goal.
    Ive binged the whole series and just moved to slc, great content and keep it up!

      To me the ideal thermal mass for a GH would be do do the North Growbed wall with a stone that retains heat. It gets full sun in Winter but is shaded during Summer.

    On the back wall soil berm where you are considering doing some planting, is there any concern about the plants' roots causing problems with the plastic sheeting and styrofoam insulation under it? You had mentioned doing that in a previous video.

    • @trailbreakfarms
      @trailbreakfarms  3 роки тому

      We are just getting ready to plant. Yes there is some foam insulation below ground about 18 inches on the North Wall grow bed on the outside. The Grow Bed is 5 feet wide and the insulation is about 24". I guess its possible that some of the roots could eventually get down there. Time will tell. Raspberries, strawberries and squash should be fine. Grapes could develop a deeper root system. I'll report any concerns.

    Love the look of the trout pond. I’m curious how much time goes into maintaining the aquaponics. Does it take a lot of time to troubleshoot and get running smoothly? How are feeding costs for the fish?

    • @trailbreakfarms
      @trailbreakfarms  3 роки тому

      yes. very time consuming. I've spent more time on the Pond than anything else. But I enjoy it. Lots of tweaking to make it all work. Feeding costs haven't been too bad. Still trying to get my hands around it. I'm going to grow some of the feed. I want the Fish to fertilize my plants and trees so we'll make it work.

  • @SashaXXY

    Hello. I have a design question. Why does the trout pond have to be in the greenhouse? Are you using the pond water for thermal mass? Why not have the pond outside and just have a small section of it accessible from the greenhouse so you could run air pumps and feed fish? Unless you're far north, I'm not sure how you'd ever get the pond to freeze more than a foot deep.

    • @trailbreakfarms
      @trailbreakfarms  3 роки тому

      I think the Pond would definitely work outside the GH. I had thought about doing a Pond that was mostly on the outside but partly entering the GH on the East side. To me, that would be ideal. Yes, I have hoped to use the water for thermal mass and as an aid in Summer cooling.

    Thank you for your great videos. I have one question. We're currently installing a greenhouse from Greenhouse in the Snow. You mentioned in an earlier video that the cooling trench that extends out to the west (or east?) of your greenhouse is insufficient. I believe you had used seven or nine pipes of about 70' length. Can you confirm that? And if you were doing it over again, how many pipe and how far would you go on that cooling trench? Thank you very much for your help.

    • @trailbreakfarms
      @trailbreakfarms  3 роки тому

      I have 12 pipes coming out of my suction room and they run 150 feet. I would have doubled up because my cooling fans can't pull enough air from them. That is why I have a vent on my West wall. Good luck with your project.

      @@trailbreakfarms I am going to jump on Ben's comment for a bit more clarification, as we will do our digging in the next three months. Are you saying you would run more tubes in the same trench, run another trench, or that you would use an additional blower and tube set up? Additionally, did you vary much from the instruction packet that they sent with the kit-either more or less? Thanks for the information.

      @@chriswilliams4282 Chris, I surmise that Trail Break Farms is simply talking the number of pipes, not an additional trench. I also have my doubts that the length of that trench coming off the suction room is that critical. In speaking with the greenhouse suppliers, the main point of that suction room line of piping is to bring in air for evaporative cooling. It's the passage of air through the greenhouse that creates the evaporative cooling, and less the temperature of the air itself emerging from the suction room trench. Our greenhouse should be up and running in the next couple of weeks, and I'll update this comment. The instruction packet is thin on details. We are putting in 20 pipes for that cooling trench.

    • @trailbreakfarms
      @trailbreakfarms  3 роки тому

      @@chriswilliams4282 I did as instructed from Greenhouse in the Snow. What I've found by running it is that the geothermal alone won't heat and cool my GH to my desire. Summer's are tough. I have a couple of fans to circulate air and they want to draw more air from my suction room then is offered by my tubes. I have a vent on the wall to get that extra air. I will likely add a second set of pipes to help. If I were doing it again, I'd add a second set of pipes in the same trench. My hope is that over time the Greenhouse will mature with trees and plants (canopy) and not require so much cooling.
