Thanks for the review very informative, pretty close call on which card to buy. The AMD Smart Access Memory feature does this need to be supported by the game or is it hardware only and software agnostic?
Great video as always! One suggestion/improvement: the Port Royal plot (at 7:55) should really be 2 plots. There are differences in the FPS, but they are lost due to the score dwarfing the numbers. I know you're primarily focused on gaming benchmarks, but I'd be interested to see comparisons b/n 3080 and 6800XT in video editing, particularly DaVinci Resolve. I wonder whether the core advantage of the 3080 or the memory advantage of the 6800XT matters most
Your review, Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed have convinced me to wait until early next year to pull the trigger on a new video card. AMD has actually delivered a legitimate video card choice. I am early waiting for the 6900 XT review; it looks like it may be THE choice for top of the heap video card performance this go round. Thanks for your review, Paul!
If you want 4k and ray tracing you're still better off with a 3080 it seems. AMD's ray tracing gets trounced at 4k especially in some specific games and even more so when DLSS is a factor. Their super resolution may make up some ground but I doubt it'll be as effective this time around, likely nowhere near if I'm honest but might as well wait and see I guess. Also if you need one for anything besides gaming, streaming or 3d programs etc. Nvidia is still way on top from what limited information I've gathered. But if just gaming and wanting great performance without ray tracing on, they're pretty sweet alright.
Thanks for the scores I was so stuck and building my 1st pc with a 3080 but to hard to get for retail so I went with the 6800 and ohhh man I don’t regret it

You ever explore split axis graphs when comparing two different types of data in the same graph? Like the frames per second and cost graph dies look a bit odd when they’re using the same axis.
What is crazy is that the pricing doesn't matter this generation of cards because they are all getting swooped up and then sold on Ebay for extremely high prices. The value just isn't there. The vast majority of us regular consumers aren't going to be able to get our hands on any of the cards for MSRP until at the earliest the middle of next year and quite possibly not until the next generation of cards.

Great video, as usual.
Just picking up one of these 6800xt cards. Do I need to pre-download drivers(like a bios), or Will it just run from factory cpu/bios......?
Thanks
Grabbed a 3080 at microcenter on AMD 6800xt launch day was 3rd in line at the Atlanta store. They had 8 6800s 10 3080s 8 3070s....some 5000 series processors 5600x and 5800xs and 6 3950xs. An hour after launch they got 2 6800 xts. Dont give up camp microcenter. You'll get one. Waited 27 hours in 30 degree weather....was it worth it absolutely!!!
Paul awesome video (as always). I am however sulking that I didn't win a prize in the 'browser refresh challenge' :( Well at least AMD and Nvidia have something in common! #nostock #AMD #6800XT #RDNA2 #BigNavi
I'm excited to see how the 6900xt performs now!
Levels of frustration i feel is off the charts.
Great minds think alike. Three included links to other reviews and those are the only other three reviews I've watched!
I really wished ASRock would come out with a challenger pro model of the 6800xt since they're my preferred brand and it would go perfectly with my build. Imagine my sadness when they announced there would be a challenger pro 6800 but not a 6800xt
Will be interested to see these benchmarks redone once Nvidia does a driver update adding their version of smart access that should work with Intel or AMD CPUs. Oh, and would like to see 3090 and 6900 XT benchmarks pushed to the max/overclocked to see what the very best will give you.
Just not in stock. Hell Best Buy didn’t even drop them
I don't know if they even got them. I was reading their subreddit and someone said they didn't receive any in store
If the FPS numbers themselves weren't on there, it would be almost impossible to spot that there is a difference.
Thank you for including Flight Simulator in your tests. It's the title that is most important for me!
Nice review, thanks Paul.
Rage mode is enabled for people trying to buy the cards.
But AMD fanboys said there would be more availability!
haha, exactly. 2021 it is
Maybe its name (rage mode) is intentional as AMD humor.
@@BatTech Yeah, AMD was going to blanket the world from sea to shining sea. Even stack the cards to the heavens, in a stairway no less... Even the poor boys and girls at christmas was going to wake up drooling on a 6800 and a 5600x, for being so good all year... Thanks to Sista Sooooe...
I too watch your videos of the product launches first. Well done!
Good job! Hope to see a Rage mode VS DLSS2.0 performance comparison though.
Better say super resolution once it’s released
I wonder how many people are buying a new GPU or console this year because the pandemic and work from home means they actually have a little money left over each month. Scalpers aside, it's been pretty crazy this year and the video games industry has done insanely well, and that's digital downloads (as in no scalpers account for those sales figures).
New channel subscriber because I love your style. Nicely detailed, but to the point, and a bit of wry humor. Well done 👍
I couldn't get a 3070 at launch, so I signed up for evga's cue system hopping for the best. I gave up on that and decided to try to get an rx 6800, I even asked for the day off at work just so I could go to microcenter chicago to wait in line. Last monday I received an email from evga saying the 3070 was back in stock... I bought it.
I feel like it was a marketing move to get people away from amd🤔
Don't care I got the card that I originally wanted.
Ps: I still took the day off
Thanks for the tip. I didn't know EVGA had a queue system. Why aren't all companies smart enough to do this? It's pro-consumer, and they still can't make enough supply for the demand. A true win-win. I'm sure that I'm somewhere around number 18,639,647 in line now, but I signed up anyway for 3070 notifications.
@@deanhatescoffee I signed up 3 weeks ago for two different 3080 notifications on the EVGA website. Then lubed up my email port. Since then nothing has squeezed into my Inbox from EVGA...
Hi Carlos, this is my secret account and don't boder to come to work tomorrow cause taking a day off for a video card launch it's not tolerable.. Sign: Your boss.
@@kramnull8962 I just got a 3090 from EVGA using the Queue system.... Did you have a account with EVGA? if you don't then the Queue system wont work for you.
The 3070 is JUNK 🤡
Seems like I was one if the lucky ones this morning 😕 I refreshed a few times just before 9AM on AMD's site and it came right up.. filled in my info, it charged my card, and got the confirmation email about an hour later. I was trying on Amazon and Newegg as well just in case and found exactly what everyone is describing, no results from search until about 9:05 and then results came up with "sold out" or "coming soon" tags.
I'd say don't give up, rumor is they will be releasing through out the day.. so maybe you might get lucky if you keep checking 🤘
Good luck to all, thanks for the informative videos as always Paul ✌️
I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for doing what you do.
I had 6800xt red devil, OCd that GPU and it was a monster. Had to return it since it was way too expensive. Bought 6800 ROG Strix, can’t be more happy with GPU, better performance than my old 2080TI
Opening monologue was so great lol
I'm building a workstation for someone who's doing editing and vfx, but has a limited budget. I was wondering if you can compare the 6800 vs 3070 with those specific tasks ! Thank you and great work... Hopefully, I will be able to finish the build before christmas, but with the actual shortage and reselling on ebay, I have my doubts.
I checked the e-tailers when the store for the 6800 and 6800 XT went live.
almost all 4 websites that I go to for my PC component needs in the UK are lagging like hell. And it sold out within 1 minute, in all 4 stores....
I know you're primarily focused on gaming benchmarks, but I'd be interested to see comparisons b/n 3080 and 6800XT in video editing, particularly DaVinci Resolve. I wonder whether the core advantage of the 3080 or the memory advantage of the 6800XT matters most
Tom! How is it possible there were several benchmarks comparisons for 6000 series available already two weeks before the launch!
Not surprised that other tubers have the new stuff.
I'd really like to see an indepth ray tracing showdown between Ampere and Big Navi with an emphasis on modeling and rendering .
Amazing that in 2020 sellers can’t put captcha to catch bots on their sites & limits one per customer or something....
Thanks for the scores I was so stuck and building my 1st pc with a 3080 but to hard to get for retail so I went with the 6800 and ohhh man I don’t regret it
in Germany 6800 was available for about 40 minutes, 6800xt I have not even seen available
can you tell us whicj retailers to check?
@@Sm0k3R573v3 alternate.de? i cant see it
cause the 6800 is complete trash in terms of value everyone wanted a 6800xt
Great video Paul, thanks for your hard work.
Just remember guys, these tests are performed with launch day drivers. Thing will only improve over time for both the RTX and RX.
I liked the video as soon as the intro finished. Fantastic
It's a gorgeous Fall day here in the Nashville area, and now that it's no longer sub-feezing outside, I'm going to do some yard work while the sun shines. Then I'm going to put in some FF14 time with my 3900X / 2080Ti PC. It's made of parts that still work great and which actually exist. I could not be happier that I "overbought" in 2018 and 2019 so I don't have to get caught up in this madness.
loved the intro man!
Very nice card, but i am happy that i buy a rtx3080, RT is such a nice thing, DLSS also... On Performance Side are both cards kinda the same, depends a bit on the game.
Hi Paul... Great Video as always
I have a doubt, Do you have all these games in different HDDs for different processor test bench?? I mean you have 2 copies for each AMD & Intel ????
I connected my game HDD in to a new intel PC and the games were not loading, had to re verify them but many of them loaded from the start of the game, my previous saves wont load
what I want to know is do I need seperate Game drive for AMD & Intel systems????
Your intro was GOLD!! it deserves a new sub from me ;)
Let's go! Seconds before out of stock!
The small details I need is more pixels on my monitor
Hey Paul! Hope you're having a great weekend. Question: I have a Cooler Master AIO 240, Do AIOs have a life expectancy? I've had mine since 2017 and it's still working great. Have you ever covered this topic? Thanks!
for benchmark scores, why dont you use different colors instead of different shades of the same color, so its easier to identify at a quick glance.
I didn't even get the chance to see a card in stock.
would love to buy a 6800xt or a 3080 for that matter but I refuse to pay current going rates of scalper (private and retailers) so I'll wait for spring.
I like the video for the intro about life.. and a double thumbs up for the rest
Great video, Paul. Thank you for the time stamps!
can you please do a comparison with typical real world conditions such as the 6800 paired with an older gen cpu? most people are not building new systems with a new gpu but are upgrading.
How would this compare when combined with a ryzen 3xxxx?
Deserves more views - excellent breakdown, subbed.
Problem is people buy from scalpers if they just stopped doing it with some self control then the scalpers would be out of pocket
Paul channelling his inner Charlie Brooker there- love it!
you guys (reviewers) need to do benchmarks with previous Gen CPUs to see how the new video cards perform. a lot of us don't upgrade the CPU and Video cards at the same time
How well does this card work in a professional environment? Blender? Da Vinci? Adobe?
