Early a4 and I presume a6 models with that engine are prone to suffering cam gear wear because out the factory they are set with bare minimum oil pressure until they are revved quite high , it’s an emission bollox thing to improve internal losses , the s4 or s6 run full oil pressure and upgraded better quality cams etc , there are specialists than can increase the oil pressure if they haven’t addressed it on the later models .

Yes and no, many manufacturers offer an ‘authorities’ specification, which can have stiffer suspension/bushes, bigger brakes and more mundane things like down specced interiors, beefier charging system etc. also, if the manufacturer offers a warranty-approved map then they are sometimes given that. But yes, otherwise they’re fleet vehicles which are sold on after use so nothing that would invalidate the warranty or that could fail after the car has been sold to the public which the police could potentially be liable for.

What a surprise the 3 series touring had the registration starting YJ, is there a police car belonging to North & West Yorkshire police that the registration starts with any other than YJ if so I've never seen 1 in a long time.

The roof mounted combi Tetra Airwave Antenna is always a dead giveaway for me on unmarked Police vehicles. Usually mounted next to the stock sharkfin Antenna.

The only unmarked cars I've seen here (that I can recall) that don't have two antennas are a few of their Volkswagen Passat. Most of them have two antennas, but some only have one, and it's longer than what the stock car comes with so it's easy to notice.

@@PaulB-b4fwe have had the C8 since release, the only issue on the first was ad blue and of course rattles on the first and the facelift due to poor build quality with the interior. One other problem is with the adaptive lights warnings/sensors, I’ve driven a few and it happens on them all. The B9 in my opinion is a better vehicle. I’m not a fan but I don’t see electrical issues being that bad.
Saw a post about a claim against the force involving you the other day. How many of them did you have? Shame infotainment on vag cars are terrible now, always having problems with them in my dealership. Quattro 3.0 with plenty of torque for driveabilty can’t really complain for an unmarked.
I can see this being useful for more high end places around town etc but it'll stick out like a sore thumb. Every time I see a brand new BMW etc I instantly think unmarked and I'm usually right, it would make more sense to use cars more fitting to what people currently are driving, Cars with 50,64 reg cars etc with a few marks on them or whatever.
BMW don't supply police vehicles anymore. The purpose of an unmarked RPU car is essentially to buy a bit of time, the police are under no illusion that people can spot the grille LEDs, recognise numberplates etc. Covert vehicles used in roles where they want to be completely undetectable are a different matter entirely.
When passing other cars I always look for the age of the cars I'm passing. If it's an older plate and not a BMW, AUDI, VOLVO or SKODA then I tend to dismiss it as an unmarked police vehicle.

I spent 35 yrs dealing with police cars all over the UK and continually a lot of people would think they are remapped etc. If a force feels the need for a 500 plus bhp car , they will acquire one which comes that way as standard. There's a variety of reasons why they don't mess around with their cars

Are North Yorkshire Police aware that MEDICAL CANNABIS has been legal since 2018? Medical users are ALWAYS over the legal limit, and its down to the user to determine if they are safe to drive. NOT down to a police officer who can smell cannabis.
The general public are already left to decide if they're safe to drive after drinking alcohol-a long established and legalised drug-and even then many can't make the correct or sensible decision to not drive. Can't see how any other drug user would be any different.

The Audi A6 allroad is the ultimate quick sleeper car. A proper dad wagon that'll go anywhere, look inconspicuous but has a sub 5.5 zero to sixty.

Allow me to dispel a common myth. Police cars are NEVER chipped, remapped or ' souped up ' they are all Standard. And that's a fact

Blanking the reg is a waste of time Ben all from Yorkshire since 01 start with a Y unless it was sourced from the other end of the UK.
Unmarked cars are usually on ghost plates and will be registered with a range of registration plates with different area codes for the first letter.
If it’s patrolling in and around Yorkshire it’ll blend in with the majority of y reg cars on the roads.
